Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effect of boiled turmeric water on the number of leukocyte and differentiation leukocyte of broilers. The study was conducted in Oktober - November 2016. The material used was 200Day Old Chick  (DOC)  of broiler with initial weight 41.48 ± 0.99 g. Feed used was a commercial feed with code B-11S to phase stater and BR-1AJ for the finisher phase and turmeric. The design used in this study was completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 replicates containing 8 DOC in each. The treatment consisted of T0 (100% water), T1 (75% water + 25% boiled turmeric water), T2 (50% water + 50% boiled turmeric water), T3 (25% water + 75% boiled turmeric water), T4 (100% boiled turmeric water).The results showed that boiled turmeric water give significantly affect the percentage of lymphocytes and eosinophils (P<0,05), but did not significantly affect the total number of leukocytes, percentage of heterophile and monocytes (P>0,05). The conclusion from this study is that the boiled turmeric water in the drinking water of broilers was able to improve white blood profile, that indicated by the number of leukocyte and percentage of lymphocytes and eosinophils. Keywords: Turmeric, leuycocyte, differential leucocyte, broiler

Abstract

This study is conducted on December 2016until January 2017 in Sumber Sekar Field Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of different maturity levels of green coconut water dilution with 10% of egg yolk to the sperm quality of Boer goat during storage. Materials used in the study were male Boer kept in Sumber Sekar Field Laboratory. The semen was collected routinely once in 2 days using artificial vagina with fresh semen quality requirement individual motility ≥70%. The method used in this study is Randomnized Block Design which consists of three treatments, there are P0 as control (CEP-2 + 10% Egg Yolk); P1 (Young Green Coconut Water + 10% Egg Yolk) and P2 (Mature Green Coconut Water + 10% Egg Yolk). If the difference between the treatments showed real influence, then the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test will be done. The grouping is sorted by the semen observation time. The observed variables macroscopically include volume, smell, consistency, color and acidity, and microscopically which include individual motility, mass motility, viability and abnormality.The study result for the mean and standard deviation (SD) of motility in storage until the 4th day. The motility of P0 (36.67 ± 32.96)%, then P1 (20.0 ± 13.78)%, and the last P3 (18.33 ± 19.15). Dilution with the best viabillity average in the 4th day in P0 (58.02 ± 19.93)%, in P1 (26.10 ± 18.47)% and the last is P2 (25,87 ± 20,60)%.the average value of abnormality on the 4th day shows that the lowest average abnormality found in P0 (1.49 ± 0.73)%, then P1 (1.89 ± 1.68)% and the highest average value of abnormality is in P2 (2,87 ± 1.41).Keywords : liquid semen, boer goat, green coconut water, CEP-2, cold storage

Abstract

Green betle leaf (Piper betle L.) is one of the plants used by the people of Indonesia for tradisional medicine. Green betle leaf contains antibacterial compounds consisting of phenol and its derivatives. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of green betle leaf (Piper betle L.) againt the bacteria Streptococcus agalactiae caused mastitis in dairy cows. Bacterial inhibition test by paper disc method. Data analysis using ANOVA by Nested design with 6 treatment and 6 repetitions. The results of this study green betle leaf (Piper betle L.) extract inhibiting the growth of bacteria Streptococcus agalactiae was significantly different (P<0,01). The conclusion were the extract of green betel leaf (Piper betle L.) can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus agalactiae and storage temperature has no effect, but storage periode gives effect the quality of green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.), so that the leaf extract storage green betel with distilled solvent recommended on 2nd days at refrigerator.

Abstract

AbstractAvian influenza is a kind of contagious disease which can spread not only to other poultry but also to the human (zoonosis). Avian influeza becomes world issue when the human can effect the death. Sarang Semut plant (Myrmecodia .sp) which has much anti-oxidant and imunostimulant can increase immunity. Imunostimulant will help and protect body cells well. The increasing of cellular immunity will help the cell attack the AI virus and increase the work of avian influenza vaccine. Therefore, this research is done to know the influence of sarang semut extract toward poultry’s anti-body of avian influenza H5N1.This research using experimental method. The design used is RAL factorial. Factor I: the addition of sarang semut extract amounted 5mgs/kgs BB, 10 mg/kg BB, 15 mg/kg BB and Factor II: the length of giving sarang semut extract, namely:  3 days, 5 days, and 7 days. The result of this research was analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) followed by BNT.The result of serology examination shows that in adding sarang semut extract showing the significant different in each experiment, but not showing the significant different in the time given. The more increasing of the anti-body titer average and more decreasing CV can give  the more optimal protection for H5N1 virus attack. The recomended result on this research average titer and CV is giving sarang semut extract by 10 mgs/kgs BB dosage.

Abstract

The purpose of this studi is to know whether Milk Total Solid (TS) from Tawang Argo Farmer has already met with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) or not. Material used is local farmer milk. Variables gathered were Fat and Milk Density then calculated using Fleischman equation to get TS value. TS from Respondent compared with SNI using paired t-test in SPSS 16. Meanwhile, Milk Density and Fat is analized descriptively in order to know how TS value formed. Investigation result shows that there is a very significant difference (P<0.01) between TS from Tawang Argo Farmer with SNI which shows berada 0.92757±0.37647 % higher. The bighest contribution of TS come from fat with 148±26% above standard, while Milk Density contribute negatively as much as -0.0035±0.0008%. In conclusion, TS milk from Tawang Argo Farmer met SNI.

Abstract

The reasearch was purposed to find out correlation about body condition score (BCS) of dairy cow on colostrum quality in terms of Solid Non Fat (SNF) and Specific Gravity. The material was used 30 pregnant of dairy cows with 9????ℎ months old. The method that used in the research was using survey and observation methods. Sampling was done by purposive sampling old pregnant dairy cows. The variables measured were Solid Non Fat (SNF) and Specific Grafity. Data were tabulated to SPSS 20 version, then analyzed descriptively and linear regression analysis using the SPSS program to determine the correlation of the old pregnant BCS of dairy cow on quality colostrum. The result showed an average was BCS 4, BCS of the old pregnant dairy cow showed a  significant correlation (P<0.05) on quality of colostrum in terms of Solid Non Fat (SNF)  with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0.749 and the determinantion coefficient (????2) = 56% and BCS of the old pregnant dairy cow showed a  significant correlation to (P<0.05) on quality of colostrum Specific Grafity  with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0.787 and the determinantion coefficient (????2) = 62% . It can be concluded a good BCS is a range of BCS (3-4), so that breeders should be controling the BCS of dairy cattle. If the value of BCS was great it make the higher quality of colostrum, so a new born calf will be grow well because the quality of colostrum was also great.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggantian Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) menggunakan serum darah sapi pada pengencer dasar Cauda Epididymal Plasma 2 (CEP-2) terhadap kualitas semen sapi Limousin selama pendinginan pada suhu 3-5oC. Materi penelitian yang digunakan yaitu semen segar dari sapi Limousin yang dipelihara di Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan Singosari Malang. Serum darah didapatkan dari darah sapi yang diambil dari Laboratorium Lapang Sumber Sekar Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Brawijaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian menggunakan percobaan laboratorium dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok yang terdiri dari lima perlakuan, yaitu P0 sebagai kontrol (90% CEP-2 (dengan BSA) + 10% KT); P1 (83,84% CEP-2 + 6,16% serum + 10% KT); P2 (81,84% CEP-2 + 8,16% serum + 10% KT); P3 (79,84% CEP-2 + 10,16% serum + 10% KT) dan P4 (90% CEP-2 (tanpa BSA) + 10% KT). Parameter yang diamati adalah motilitas, viabilitas dan abnormalitas. Hasil penelitian, persentase motilitas yang tertinggi yaitu P0 (37,6±17,3%). Persentase viabilitas yang tertinggi yaitu P3 (63,4±3,5). Persentase abnormalitas yang tertinggi yaitu P0 (16,4±4,0%). Total spermatozoa motil pada semua perlakuan lebih besar daripada kriteria Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) yaitu 40% spermatozoa motil dari total konsentrasi. Disimpulkan bahwa serum darah belum mampu menggantikan BSA pada CEP-2, namun pada pengencer dengan serum 6,16% cukup mampu mempertahankan motilitas spermatozoa walaupun tidak sebaik pengencer dengan BSA. Kata kunci : semen cair, penyimpanan dingin, motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh kandang individu (single cages) dan kelompok (group cages) terhadap bobot akhir, bobot karkas, lemak abdominal dan efisiensi pakan ayam pada arab jantan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan kandang individu dan kelompok memberikan pengaruh berbeda tidak nyata (P>0,05) terhadap variabel bobot akhir, bobot karkas, dan efisiensi pakan, namun memberikan memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05) terhadap variabel lemak abdominal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh data sebagai berikut; rata-rata bobot akhir sebesar 1067,00-1188,20 g/ekor; rata-rata bobot karkas sebesar 665,16 – 738,96 g/ekor atau 62,16 – 64,33%; rata-rata lemak abdominal sebesar 3,48 – 9,82 g/ekor atau 0,33 – 0,88%; dan rata- rata efisiensi pakan sebesar 26,75 – 32,36 %. Perlakuan P2 menunjukkan hasil rata-rata tertinggi. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan bobot akhir (1188,20 g), bobot karkas (738,96 g), dan efisiensi pakan (32,36%) paling baik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kepadatan kandang sampai empat ekor masih cukup nyaman. Penggunaan kandang kelompok (2 ekor per ukuran 1200 cm2) memberikan hasil paling baik dan cukup efisien untuk mendapatkan bobot akhir, bobot karkas yang maksimal, efisiensi pakan yang tinggi terhadap ayam arab jantan periode grower. Saran agar agar mendapatkan bobot akhir, bobot karkas yang maksimal, dan efisiensi pakan yang tinggi maka, sebaiknya menggunakan kandang kelompok (group cages) dengan pengisian 2 ekor per ukuran 1200 cm2. Kata kunci :Ayam, single dan group cages, bobot akhir, karkas, lemak abdominal, efisiensi pakan

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the effect of flour and papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L) on a mixed diet of napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schaum) and pollard (Triticumaestivum) to the concentration ammonia, Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA’s) and microbial protein synthesis invitro. This research method was an experiment in laboratory with Randomized Block Design (RBD) using 5 treatments with 3 replications. the treatment were P0 : Control Ration (napier grass + pollard ratio of 1:1 in the DM), P1 : P0 + 2.0% papaya leaf flour DM, P2 : P0 + 4.0% papaya leaf flour DM, P3 : P0 + extract DM 2.0% papaya leaves, P4 : P0 + extract DM 4.0 % papaya leaves. The measured variables were concentration of ammonia incubating rumen fluid 24 hour, concentration of VFA’s and microbial protein synthesis in the rumen fluid incubation 48 hour. Data were analyzed using variance (ANOVA), if there any differences in treatment, then continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results of research that provides highly significant difference (P <0.01) the concentration of ammonia and microbial protein synthesis, but not significantly (P> 0.05) against the VFA’s. Conclusion of the research was the additional flour and papaya leaf extract on blanding of napier grass and pollard can increase the concentration of ammonia, VFA’s, and microbial protein synthesis. The best treatment is the addition of papaya leaf flour 4.0 % (P2) because it can increase the concentration of ammonia and microbial protein synthesis, treatment with the addition of papaya leaf extract 2.0% (P3) can disposed increase the VFA’s. The suggestion of this research is that papaya leaf flour 4,0 % (P2) could be added on the woof because it can improve ammonia concentration and synthesis protein of microbe, also this is need to do a deep research to know what the effect of additional of flour and papaya leaf extract on protozoa population based on in vitro. Keywords : Papaya leaf, ammonia, Volatile Fatty Acids, in vitro.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of maturity of red coconut water as a diluent to the sperms quality of Boer goats during chilled preservation. The research was carried out at Laboratory Sumber Sekar Faculty of Animal  Husbandry University of Brawijaya Malang, on 11st December 2016 until 31st January 2017. The method used in this research was laboratory experimental using Randomized Block Design with three treatments, P0 (Tris Aminomethane + 20% Egg Yolk), P1 (Young Red Coconut Water + 20% Egg Yolk) and P2 (Mature Red Coconut Water + 20% Egg Yolk) which each treatment using 10 repetitions. The observed variables include the percentage of motility, percentage of viability and percentage of abnormal spermatozoa during chilled preservation The results showed that on the 3ndday the percentage of motility of spermatozoa during chilled preservation gave a significant effect (P<0.05), while on viability gave a very significant effect (P<0.01), and on abnormality did not give a significant effect (P> 0.05). The highest of total motile spermatozoa was P0 (Tris Aminomethan + 20% Egg Yolk). P2 better than P1 on motility, but not on viability and abnormality. The conclusions was the maturity of red coconut water can improve motility, but can not improve viability and abnormality. The suggested was use Mature Red coconut water + 20% Egg Yolk as a diluent  and do further research on coconut water to be able to maintain spermatozoa longer.Keyword : Sperms, egg yolk, red coconut water, tris aminomethane
