Abstract

The goal of this study is to examine how self-efficacy and teacher social support relate to self-regulated learning in 4th and 5th-grade elementary school students. A quantitative correlation research method was employed, utilizing questionnaires to assess self-efficacy, teacher social support, and self-regulated learning. The research participants were 4th and 5th grade students in two elementary schools in Surabaya with a research sample of 156 people aged 9-12 years, comprising 91 girls and 65 boys. Data analysis was conducted using a multiple linear regression test utilizing IBM SPSS version 26. The result of this study showed that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and teacher's social support for self-regulated learning of elementary school students with a significant value (p=0.021). However, when analyzed individually, the self-efficacy variable did not significantly affect self-regulated learning (p = 0.596), whereas teacher social support did have a significant impact (p = 0.006). The coefficient of determination (R²) obtained was 0.079, indicating that self-efficacy and teacher social support together explain only 7.9% of the variance in self-regulated learning. This suggests that a substantial proportion of self-regulated learning in elementary school students is influenced by other factors

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a valid and reliable Student Grit Scale and to analyze the feasibility of a measurement instrument using the Rasch Model. This study employed a quantitative research method with a descriptive approach and involved 75 junior high school students. The grit scale developed by Datu, called the Triarchic Model of Grit (TMG), was used in this study. The results of the reliability test showed that Cronbach's Alpha was greater than 0.60 (), indicating that the measurement instrument was reliable. The unidimensional analysis showed that the instrument was feasible because the variance observed in the contrast of 1 to 5 residues contained only values above 15%. Thus, the entire construct of the grit has measured one appropriate variable. This study provides recommendations for the development of a grit measurement instrument to investigate he balance between the topics contained in the questions and the level of ability of students as respondents.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an inventory to measure the academic resilience of high school students in online learning. The research and development framework by Borg and Gall was employed to conduct this study. Results showed that: (1) the development of this inventory is highly needed by school counselors and students due to their lack of knowledge about the classifications of academic resilience that students may exhibit during online learning; (2) the inventory prototype is designed as a systematic guide in digital format, which includes discussions on academic resilience and online learning, as well as guidance on analyzing inventory data and delivering test results; and (3) the inventory has been rated highly for its validity and practicality by expert validators. The academic resilience indicator has a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.821 for 41 items, and the online learning indicator has a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.845 for 33 items. Both values are greater than 0.70, indicating high reliability. Therefore, this inventory can be used as a testing instrument for guidance and counseling

Abstract

This study aims to identify the main factors in the selection of majors in college. There were 1283 participants consisting of first, second, and third year students from various universities in Indonesia, both public and private. The research approach was non-experimental quantitative using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that almost 30% of students felt that they chose the wrong major. Those who felt they chose the wrong major had lower knowledge domain (μ = 42.67; t = 20.376, p < 0.05) and help-seeking behavior (μ = 47.89; t = 5.336, p < 0.05) compared to those who felt they chose the right major. Based on the type of university, 274 students from public universities (72.29%) and 105 students from private universities (27.71%). The conclusion was that students who felt they had the wrong major did not have adequate Self Knowledge and Occupational Knowledge. Their need to seek help has not been accompanied by sufficient knowledge about themselves and their intended careers, hence students need to be proactive in gaining knowledge from credible sources. This study mapped the factors that influenced major selection and thus guidance on major selection since high school should be considered.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the mindset of adolescents who marry early and the impacts of early marriages. This is a qualitative descriptive study with a case study design, allowing in-depth exploration of a specific case. Following data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation, data analysis was conducted to understand the context and the characteristics of the case. The research informants were nine people from three adolescent couples who married early. The location and informants in this research were identified using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study showed that: adolescent mindset is divided into three processes, namely encoding, storage, and retrieval.  This mindset is shaped by the fulfilling of economic and familial needs, as the majority of adolescents originate from farming families with limited educational backgrounds. The informants underwent the three processes before and after getting married early. The impacts of early marriage include the loss of opportunities for further education, leading to a reduced likelihood of obtaining better jobs and finding the right partner. However, early marriage is negatively perceived by society as it has more negative than positive outcomes.
