Abstract

Non-performing loans (NPLs) are a typical sign of stress testing from financial institutions and may be used to measure the financial system's health. The critical criterion for achieving financial system stability is macroeconomic stability. Instability in the financial system (financial crisis) impairs a bank's liquidity and might lead to more problematic loans, impacting other industries. The association between NPL and numerous macroeconomic variables, including Interest Rate Spreads, Inflation, Percentage of Open Disruption, and Amount of Foreign Exchange Reserves in Indonesia, is examined in this paper. The study used the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method to estimate data for a sample period of 2000 to 2020. In the long run, inflation factors, the number of open jobless, and the number of foreign exchange reserves all substantially impacted the ratio of non-performing loans, according to the findings. However, no variables influenced the percentage of non-performing loans in the short run.

Abstract

The inflows of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to a country depend on many factorszzne of the crucial factors is the corruption index, which represents a pivotal aspect in Global Investment Competitiveness (GIC). This research analyzes the impact of the corruption perception index on FDI inflows to Indonesia. Other variables affecting FDI are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), inflation rate, and population. Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) is used to estimate the time series sample between 1995 and 2019. Following the time series procedure, several tests are conducted on the dataset before applying VECM: unit-root, optimum lag, and cointegration. The main finding shows that the higher the corruption index, the higher the FDI Inflows, implicating that low corruption attracts more FDI inflows to Indonesia. Other findings are that an increase in GDP attracts more FDI, an increase in inflation rate reduces FDI inflows, and an increase in population increases FDI inflows. The policy implication of the findings is related to an effort in attracting more FDI inflows requires a substantial endeavor in combating corruption and increasing the Corruption Perception Index of Indonesia from time to time.

Abstract

This research aims to identify alternative areas as the new growth pole and formulate a development strategy in the South West region of Aceh. The methods used are Klassen typology, gravity models, and breaking point. The scope of this research covers 7 (seven) districts and 1 (one) city for the period of 2011 to 2016. The entire district and city are assumed to be an economic unit treated as a parent area for all districts/cities. The results showed that, firstly, there could be 2 (two) growth poles if we divided by coastal areas, namely Nagan Raya District for the west coastal region of Aceh and  Southwest Aceh District for the southern coastal region of Aceh.  However, Nagan Raya Regency is the alternative choice for the new growth pole in South West  region of Aceh. Secondly, the improvement of the agricultural, forestry and fishery sectors as well as the development of human resources in accordance with the needs of the labor market is necessary to be able to develop the new center of economic growth.

The data is processed using Multiple Linear Regression. The results in the study show that (1) the proportion of the population of productive age has a positive and insignificant effect on economic growth, (2) high school education and above has a positive and significant effect on economic growth, (3) health life expectancy has no significant effect on economic growth. Abstract

At present, the Indonesian business world is still dominated by Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE). From the results of the 2016-Advanced Economic Census, the number of these businesses reached more than 26 million businesses or 98.68 percent of the total non-agricultural businesses in Indonesia. This business is also able to absorb more than 59 million workers or around 75.33 percent of the total non-agricultural workforce. The advantages of MSEs include generally producing consumer goods and services that are close to the needs of the community, not relying on imported raw materials and more utilizing local resources both in terms of human resources, capital, raw materials, and equipment, and using their own capital or not supported by loans. from the bank. On the other hand, the limitations of MSEs include the lack of access to banking, the ability and knowledge of human resources that are still low so that they are managed in a simple way, the use of limited technology, and has not been able to keep up with changing consumer tastes, especially those that are export-oriented. The rapid development of information and communication technology has an impact on changes in lifestyle, including consumption patterns and the way people sell and shop. The phenomenon of e-commerce provides an easy way to shop for people by not having to come directly to the store. This can be used by MSEs to reach larger consumers so as to increase their production and income. This study aims to analyze the effect of Information and Communication Technology on the production of Micro and Small Enterprises in Indonesia. This study uses panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia between 2015-2020 which is estimated using the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The results show that capital, labor, computer users, fixed wireline users, cellular phone users, internet users and telecommunications expenses simultaneously have a positive and significant impact on the production of Micro and Small Enterprises in Indonesia. Partially, capital has a positive and significant effect on the production of Micro and Small Enterprises in Indonesia. On the other hand, telecommunications spending has a negative and insignificant effect on the production of Micro and Small Enterprises in Indonesia. While other variables have a positive and insignificant effect on economic growth in Indonesia. With these results, it is hoped that the government will issue policies to support micro and small businesses in increasing the use of information and communication technology to increase their production. Among other things, by building telecommunications infrastructure in areas that are not yet adequate, providing education to micro and small business actors in using information and communication technology, and providing light credit in the form of smartphones and computers to micro and small businesses so that they can be used to promote their products on the internet.
