Abstract

Inclusive growth results in equal access to the benefits of growth and, by that, reduces disparities. Public spending plays an important role in supporting economic growth and people's welfare. On the other hand, financial inclusion has the ability to expand opportunities to participate in growth. Using data on government spending and financial inclusion in 34 provinces in Indonesia in 2015-2019, this study aims to examine the link between the two towards inclusive growth. As a result, spending on education and financial inclusion, as well as investment and trade openness, can promote inclusive growth. Expanding access to education as a result of public investment in education will boost labor capacity and productivity. Meanwhile, access to more affordable credit will be realized through an inclusive financial system. Conversely, due to health development gaps, health spending has a negative impact on inclusive growth. The spatial error model with queen contiguity spatial weight matrix shows a significant spatial effect on the error term or residual. The implication is that policies for expanding education, health, and digital access as well as increasing investment and financial literacy need to be carried out to ensure people's affordability to economic opportunities by considering regional aspects.

Abstract

Tobacco production in East Java Province experienced various problems that caused the export performance of East Java Province tobacco to fluctuate in the international market. This study aims to analyze the comparative and competitive competitiveness of East Java Province tobacco exports in the international market from 2007 to 2021. The analytical method used in this study is Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) to analyze comparative competitiveness and the Trade Specialization Index (TSI) or Trade Specialty Index (ISP) to analyze competitive advantage. Based on the results of the RCA analysis, it shows that East Java Province's tobacco exports in the international market have strong comparative competitiveness because the RCA value is greater than 1, with an average value of 16.31. ISP analysis results are less than 0 to 1 or negative, with an average value of -0.26. The ISP value of East Java tobacco exports indicates that East Java Province tends to be an importer rather than an exporter and is in the import substitution stage. The need for large consumption should be met by domestic production to reduce tobacco imports due to the high comparative competitiveness of East Java tobacco in the international market.

Abstract

Product diversification efforts can be used as a strategy to develop knowledge and skills as well as an alternative source of income for community households. The product diversification can be more optimal if it is supported by the availability of raw material sources located close to the community and wide market potentials so as to lower production costs incurred. This study uses a mixed method with a sequential exploration approach. This method begins with the use of qualitative method, followed by the quantitative method and interpretation. This study puts more emphasis on the qualitative analysis. Respondents of this study include farmers, community leaders and the government of Negeri Booi. Findings reveal that the most suitable diversifications of nutmeg products in Negeri Booi were in the form of nutmeg cider business and nutmeg juice business. Both of these businesses were supported by the availability of abundant raw materials, not too big business capital, and wide marketing potentials. This phenomenon was also supported by the existence of local customs, traditions and wisdom which were always applied in the community activities to meet their household needs.

Abstract

This study intends to assess the shock from national foreign exchange's primary variables, such as exports, imports, and exchange rates, for the period 2000-2019. The data utilized in this study came from the Indonesian Statistics Bureau (BPS), the Bank of Indonesia (BI), and the World Bank 2021. For this analysis, we utilize an autoregressive framework to capture the shock and explain its long-term influence on a country’s foreign exchange reserves. The results of the VECM study indicate that exports have a large, long- and short-term positive influence on foreign exchange reserves, whereas imports have no effect on foreign exchange reserves and the exchange rate has a considerable effect on Indonesia's foreign currency reserves. On national foreign exchange reserves, exports have a positive impact, imports a negative impact, and the exchange rate has a substantial impact.

Abstract

Financial development and economic growth have been thoroughly analyzed in the literature extensively. The discussion revolved on whether the financial sector leads the real sector in the process of economic development or whether it is the other way around. There is now no consensus on the causal relationship between financial development and economic growth. So, it is necessary to determine the relationship between financial development and economic growth in order to make accurate economic growth estimations. This paper examines an interaction model between Islamic financial development and economic growth that assumes the consumption of real resources by the financial sector. This research used Hadri Lagrange-Multiplier to investigate association’s path between variables. As a result, the interaction between Islamic financial development and economic growth may be unidirectional. However, the Islamic financial system is unsustainable, the Islamic financial market's contribution remains modest, and this could not eventually contribute to economic growth significantly. In addition, the results of this study reveal that the development of Islamic financial institutions in Indonesia has not yet had a significant effect on the welfare of Indonesian society. Due to rising demand for financial services, it was believed that economic growth drives finance in developing nations. Moreover, Economic growth fosters competition among financial intermediaries, resulting in more efficient financial transactions and, consequently, increased growth.

Micro, Small, And Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are crucial drivers of regional and national economic growth. The growth of MSMEs, coupled with increased employment opportunities and output, underscores their important role in economic development. The pace of technological advancement has created various e-commerce options. MSMEs must adapt to the demands of Industry 4.0 to ensure their longevity.  This study compares e-commerce options for marketing use by Ledre's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in Bojonegoro Regency. The aim is to determine which platform is best using the Analytical Hierarchy Process method for effective decision support. Subjective evaluations are avoided, and technical terms are explained. The text adheres to conventional academic structure, provides logical progression, and uses formal language with precise vocabulary. The Analytical Hierarchy Process selects and identifies top-priority criteria and significant alternatives for each category of criteria in e-commerce. The categories include aspects of the promotion system, payment system, web design, and risk in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of Bojonegoro Regency. The Analytical Hierarchy Process prioritizes key-person quality over respondent quantity in research. According to the process calculation, the most crucial factor is risk, with a weight of 49.54%. Criteria for electronic marketing in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises should include optimizing social media, pay-at-site payment systems, easy-to-use website design, and legal protection risks. The primary option for Bojonegoro Regency Ledre Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to enhance sales through electronic marketing is the utilization of Shopee, an e-commerce platform.

The research data was collected through an interview process with 110 food and beverage MSME who are from Surabaya City (as scope as members of Surabaya Kriya Gallery). After that, MSMEs will be grouped into MSMEs according to how increased or decreased turnover they got. Based on this, firstly, we collect the survey of 110 owners as a sample, with Lemeshow sampling; Second, analyze data with binary logistic regression; Then, analyze the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic situation on the MSMEs turnover. It can be revealed that all independent variables (business training, gender, location, and marketing) affect their turnover but statistically only location has a strong effect on turnover. Business location has been supported by marketing.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of inequality in mediating the relationship between government spending and investment at the happiness level. Government spending and investment are independent variables. Inequality is the mediating variable while happiness is the dependent variable. This study uses data from 2013 to 2022. This study uses the PLS method to see the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable and the role of the mediating variable in mediating the independent variable with the dependent variable. The results showed that investment has a direct and positive relationship with inequality. Government spending does not correlate with the inequality level. The inequality level has no direct influence on the level of happiness. The results of the indirect analysis suggest that inequality cannot mediate the relationship between government spending and investment on the level of happiness. Inequality cannot mediate even though the inequality level tends to decrease. It is because one of the indicators in measuring happiness that has a worsening value, even though other indicators have increased and directly impacted public welfare, is the increasing level of corruption in Indonesia. So, even though inequality tends to improve, corruption is still rampant in this country, and public happiness is decreasing.
