Abstract

In this paper we described preparation of new sustainability course that used problem based learning in its teaching learning activities. The new course was deemed necessary to prepare our future chemical engineers that could apply their knowledge in sustainability frameworks. This course is taught at 8th semester of curriculum thus it should accommodate the depth learning materials that integrate basic knowledge of chemical engineering and apply it in the context of sustainability. Problem based learning is considered appropriate to accommodate these needs. Furthermore, we measured the difference of students’ learning approach before and after participating 1 semester problem based learning session, using Study Process Questionnaires (SPQ). It was found that there was increase of deep approach with decrease of surface approach values. Positive feedbacks were also given by the students, as they could explore learning materials, team works, and other personal soft skills.

Abstract

Electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions were chemical materials that had three levels of representation. However, during the learning process there were still many learning difficulties. One of the factors that students experience difficulty in learning was that teachers were not optimal in planning lessons. However, in the process of achieving learning objectives, it was necessary to had optimal learning planning. One of the optimal learning plans was obtained by preparing learning instruments such as lesson plans and e-LKPD which integrated TPACK. This research was a descriptive study which aims to analyzed descriptively the TPACK components in the developed chemistry learning tools. The data collection techniques in this study used document study techniques, interviews, and surveys. The data instruments used in obtaining information were questionnaires, interview guideline sheets, and previous articles. Researchers took samples by purposive sampling. The research subjects were students and teachers of class X IPA SMA in Jambi City. Based on the analysis conducted by researchers through data collection instruments, it can be concluded that this learning tool has integrated Technology, Pedagogic, and Content Knowledge components.

Abstract

Facing the challenges of the 21st century, it is essential for students to have basic knowledge of science. The ability of scientific literacy relates to how students conceive the environment, health, economy, and problems of modern society which are more concerned to technology, advancement, and science development. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a scientific literacy test instrument that intends to measure students' scientific literacy skills. The objectives of this study were (1) to examine the feasibility of online scientific literacy test instrument in acid-base material, (2) analyze the level of validity and reliability of online scientific literacy test instrument in acid-based material, and (3) examine the profile of students' scientific literacy skills toward the test instrument. This Research and Development (R&D) 4D model which adapted by Thiagarajan (1974) shows the feasibility and validity of the scientific literacy test instrument with score 0.414 and 0.782, respectively. The profile of students' scientific literacy skills was in good criteria of 67%. The profiles of students' scientific literacy skills of competence aspects were 66%, 63%, and 72%, respectively.

Abstract

This article discuss about the RD&D stages that will be used to develop the MESp digital platform. This RD&D stage is done in stages and cyclically. Each phase is evaluated, with the hope that a valid, practical and effective product will be produced, and has been tested. The development of the MESp digital platform uses the RD&D method, using the literature review method. The RD&D phases consist of: Research (Analysis, Define), Development (Design, Demonstration, Development), Diffusion (Delivery, Diffusion, Adoption). Each phase is equipped with sub-activities that must be done. Each phase evaluates PAI (Purphose, Activities, Interim Product). Users are allowed to move to the next phase, when an evaluation has been produced that can answer: the achievement of its objectives, the activities that have been done, and the temporary products produced. Users are given the freedom to add sub-activities from each phase, if that necessary and for a clear reason.

Abstract

Metacognitive skills are one of the skills needed in the 21st century to achieve student learning success. Student’s metacognitive skills are still low, so that need to be empowered during the learning process by implementing Problem Based Learning Strategy Integrated with Reading Questioning Answering (PBLRQA). Through the PBLRQA strategy, students can control their cognitive processes by planning, monitoring, and evaluating to solve problems in chemistry learning. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the PBLRQA strategy on students’ metacognitive skills on acid-base materials. The method was used quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study were students of class XI IPA 1 as the experimental group and students of class XI IPA 5 as the control group, with each class including 32 students. Instruments Metacognitive Activities Inventory (MCA-I) developed by Cooper and Sandi-Urena (2009) were used in this research. Data analysis was assisted by IBM SPSS Statistic 22 software. The results of this research indicated that the use of PBLRQA strategy on acid-base materials was able to empowering students’ metacognitive skills.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is portraying PCK and TPACK study by science education researchers’ perspective in 2018-2020 so that it can be used as support, theoretical background or clue for the next researcher who interested on this framework. Content analysis used as method for this qualitative study. Subjects are 25 open access articles that published in Journal of Teacher Education, Teaching & Teacher Education, and etc. The result shows PCK and TPACK still be one of urgent and loved research by three continents, they are America. Europe, and Asia. We divided the topic as 2 part, 5 themes for PCK, and 3 themes for TPACK. Themes for PCK are the need for professional knowledge of science teachers, relationships among PCK components, PCK as a theoretical background, examining PCK, and development of PCK. Themes for TPACK are TPACK used as theoretical background, interconnection among domain of TPACK, and development of TPACK.
