Abstract

Education is a lifelong process to develop human potential optimally. Education also aims to form people with character, competence and competitiveness in the era of globalization. One of the competencies that students must have in the era of globalization is global skills and digital literacy. The aim of this study is to enhance global skills and digital literacy regarding the growth and development of living organisms among high school students through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This research employs a classroom action research design with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The subjects of the study are students of class XI E-4 at SMA Negeri 3 Malang, consisting of 13 male and 21 female students. Data analysis yielded global skill scores of 84.75 (Cycle I) and digital literacy scores of 85.17 (Cycle I), and global skill scores of 88.28 (Cycle II) and digital literacy scores of 90.16 (Cycle II). The results of the statistical analysis using the t-test also show a significant difference in the global skills variable (0.026 < 0.05) and digital literacy (0.002 < 0.05) across both learning cycles. These results indicate an improvement in both global skills and digital literacy among the students. Based on the research findings, the implementation of the PBL model is deemed necessary as one of the efforts to address the globalization era, particularly in fostering the global skills and digital literacy of students.

Abstract

The complexity of technology has changed the paradigm of society that tends to be happy with instant things. This also happens in the process of food processing and service. Education about halal and haram food is important in the era of technology and current food trends that are starting to bias halal and haram. STEAM learning can help students understand the concept to face the challenges of the 21st century, especially studying the concept of halal and haram food. The purpose of this study is to describe how STEAM-based learning can build complete knowledge related to halal and haram food. This research is a type of critical literature study research with the Cresswell analysis knife. Data sources are taken from the Scopus database, web science of direct and Google Scholar. The findings obtained are that the STEAM approach, including science, can be used to analyze food substances so that students know how halal food is from a scientific perspective. Learning using technology makes students understand food processing. Meanwhile, learning food engineering will provide a new perspective for students. So, knowing halal and haram food engineering. Likewise, discussing food from its aesthetic elements is also important. Where in Islam there are also rules for eating clean and non-disgusting food. Finally, mathematical literacy is needed for arrange food so that you don't overdo it consuming food. Therefore, the integration of halal and haram food learning with the STEAM approach can teach students more complete knowledge of halal and haram food using 21st century competencies.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the motivation of high school students in learning chemistry, investigating its determinants and inter-school differences. Using a quantitative descriptive and comparative approach, data were collected from 207 students across two high schools via a motivation questionnaire, with 156 valid responses retained for analysis. Results revealed a moderate overall level of motivation, with self-efficacy, active learning strategies, and achievement goals emerging as significant factors. Comparative analyses indicated differences in self-efficacy and performance goals between the two schools. The findings underscore the importance of understanding students' motivation in chemistry learning and its implications for educational practice. Future research could explore contextual and longitudinal influences on motivation, informing evidence-based interventions to enhance students' learning experiences and outcomes. This study contributes to the literature on student motivation in science education and provides insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers seeking to promote student engagement and achievement in chemistry.

Abstract

The development of science learning is something that needs to be considered to face problems that arise. Critical thinking skills and global citizen character need to be possessed to face problems that arise. Based on previous research, students' ability to think critically is still in the low category and students' knowledge about global citizenship is still lacking. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the SSI inquiry based learning model in improving students' critical thinking skills and global citizen character. This research is a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental type and a non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. A significant difference was shown based on the results of data analysis in the T test <0.001 for critical thinking skills and 0.04 for global citizen character. A significant increase in critical thinking skills and global citizen character based on the average pretest and posttest scores occurred in the experimental class. These results are supported by the average experimental class N-Gain test results which show a significant increase in critical thinking skills and global citizen character. The conclusion of this research is that the SSI inquiry model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and global citizen character.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the basic laboratory skills of prospective chemistry teacher students and the number of chemistry practicums in higher education that support chemistry practicum in high school. This research is quantitative and descriptive. The subjects in this research were lecturers who taught basic chemistry practicum and chemistry education students as preservice chemistry teachers. The data collection techniques used were document studies, interviews, and questionnaires. The research instruments used were interview guidelines and questionnaire sheets. The research results show that the knowledge of basic laboratory technical skills of chemistry education students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga is still a good criterion. Skills that need improvement include calibrating digital and mechanical balances and making synthetic indicator solutions. As many as 33.3% of university practicum titles support school chemistry practicums. Therefore, follow-up action is needed to prepare chemistry teachers who master the concepts and skills of good basic laboratory techniques as provisions for guiding chemistry practicums in high school.

Abstract

The research at this time aims to analyze the ability of each student in the type of critical thinking by using a problem-based learning model supported by the firing line. The research method used is a quantitative research approach with a pretest-posttest research design of non-equivalent control group design. There are 31 students who are declared as the experimental class while for 31 students who will be the control class will be randomly selected. In this study using an instrument containing 12 essay questions. The final result of this study shows the paired-sample t-test analysis that the significance value (two-tailed) is 0.000, which is less than 0.05. In addition, the N-gain test displays the average of the N-gain for the experimental class which is 0.7490 can be categorized as "high", and for the control class N-gain which is 0.6522 can be categorized as "medium". Therefore, the conclusion from the explanation above is that there is an increase in students' critical thinking skills, namely the acceptance of the hypothesis when applying a problem-solving-based learning model with the help of the firing line in IPAS learning for grade 4th elementary school students, in other words, the hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

Ionic liquids, known for their environmental friendliness and potential to enhance bamboo's mechanical properties, align with several SDGs, including No Poverty, Quality Education, and Climate Action. This study explores the potential of ionic liquids in improving bamboo's mechanical properties and integrating Environmental Sustainability and Development (ESD) into chemistry education. Data from 36 chemistry students revealed a lack of understanding among prospective teachers about ESD and its connection to ionic liquids and chemistry concepts. However, students recognized the sustainability potential of ionic liquids and agreed on incorporating these contexts into their learning. These findings highlight the need to further integrate ESD into chemistry education, emphasizing ionic liquids and their role in sustainable practices like bamboo processing.
