Abstract

This article explores the types of speech errors, the frequency of each type of speech error, the dominant of speech error, and the sources of speech errors in the talk show program of Metro TV Face to Face with Desi Anwar broadcasted in January to June 2012. Descriptive and library research are applied as method. The data are utterances containing speech errors produced by guest speakers. The method of collecting data is documentation. Investigator triangulation is used by cross checking the findings or the interpretation of data with expert judgment in order to strengthen the validity. The technique for analyzing data is error analysis. The results show that there are 253 utterances containing 428 speech errors which are derived from 9 types of speech errors based on Clark and Eve, Gleason and Ratner, and Poulisse theory. The distribution of each type of error is started by 143 filled pauses (33.41%). The number of speech errors comprises of 121 repeats (29.88%), 49 slips of the tongue (12.10%), 39 retraced false starts (9.63%), 18 corrections (4.44%), 18 unretraced false starts (4.44%), 17 interjections (4.20%), 12 silent pauses (2.96%), and 11 stutters (2.72%). From the frequency of the speech errors, it can be drawn that the most dominant error is filled pause. The speech errors are mostly caused by three sources; they are cognitive difficulty, situ- ational anxiety, and social reasons.

Abstract

Lagu dolanan Jawa Tengah, dhondhong apa salak dan gundhul pacul, mempunyaiperanan yang penting untuk anak-anak karena di dalam lagu dolanan tersebut terdapatnilai-nilai pendidikan dan simbol-simbol kehidupan yang dapat dijadikan tuntunanuntuk anak-anak. Penelitian ini akan menggali makna budaya yang tersembunyidi dalam lagu dolanan Jawa Tengah yakni dhondhong apa salak, gundhul pacul,dan kupu kuwi agar menemukan pemahaman budaya Jawa Tengah yang tersiratdalam lagu dolanan tersebut. Metode pengambilan data dalam makna budaya lagudolanan di Jawa Tengah dengan cara interview atau wawancara secara personalyakni mewawancarai 3 informan. Model memvalidasi data ini mengarahkan penelitimengambil data harus menggunakan beragam sumber data yang berbeda-beda. Lagu dolanan di Jawa Tengah seperti dhondhong apa salak, gundhul pacul, dan kupu kuwi mempunyai makna budaya yang baik dalam pendidikan maupun kehidupan anakanak. Lagu dolanan dhondhong apa salak mempunyai makna budaya yakni karakter manusia ada 3 diilustrasikan seperti buah dhondhong, salak, dan duku. Sifat yangpaling baik diantara ke tiga ilustrasi tersebut yaitu buah duku karena sifat luar dandalam sama-sama baik, halus, dan lembut. Lagu dolanan gundhul pacul mengandungmakna budaya yaitu jika orang yang mempunyai kehormatan, kedudukan, dankemuliaan janganlah menjadi sombong karena Allah dapat memberikan balasaanyang setimpal karena kesombongannya. Sedangkan, lagu dolanan kupu kuwi juga mengandung makna budaya yakni bagaimana manusia mendapatkan kebahagiaan,kebahagiaan itu tidak bisa diprediksi kapan datangnya, kapan munculnya, dan arahmana kebahagiaan akan muncul.

Abstract

In this high technology era, there are various media which can be used in teaching and learning activity including English Course where students feel difficult to use at, in, and on as preposition of time and place. Lecturer can combine the conventional technique through lecturing with online video playing inside and outside the classroom as the usage of e-learning concept. This research was held to know the students’ perception of online video usage in understanding Preposition of Time and Place (At, In, On) material. Descriptive method is used by using qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were taken from literature review, whereas quantitative data were taken from students’ test and questionnaire results. The respondents are 100 students of Bina Sarana Informatika University majoring Information System who were randomly chosen. The result of this research shows that most of the students assume that online video is easily accessible and can help them review and understand the concept of Preposition of Time and Place (At, In, On).

Abstract

This research aims to identify the relationship between self concept and parent nurturing pattern and santri (Islamic boarding school students) conformity. Self concept is a picture owned by somebody about him or herself which formed by experiences gained from individual interaction to the environment. Whereas the parent nurturing pattern is the way parent used in treating, communicating, making discipline, monitoring and supporting children. Whereas conformity is called as a change in behavior or belief as a result of social pressure either imaginary or real. The sample of this research is 170 santris of Modern Boarding School of Imam Syuhodo Muhammadiyah Blimbing Branch Sukoharjo. The data collection technique is conducted by using questionnaire consisting of three scales, they are self concept, parent nurture pattern and conformity scale. From the data analysis, it indicates that there is significant relationship between self concept and parent nurturing pattern altogether to the santri conformity.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of deixis in Gorontalo Language. This research was conducted in two stages namely the stage of preparation and implementation of the research. This research was conducted for 1 year. The result of the research showed that the form and meaning of deixis are person deixis, time and place. Persona deixis is divided into several types is deixis of first-person singular (wa’u ‘1sg’, watiya ‘1sg’), deixis of the first person plural (ami ‘1pl.excl’), deixis of the second person singular (yi’o ‘2sg’, tingoli ‘2sg’), deixis of the second person plural (tingoli ‘2pl’, timongoli ‘2pl’), and deixis of the third person singular (tio ‘3sg’) and timongolio ‘3pl’ as a deixis of the third person plural. Whereas, deixis of place are teye, teyamai ‘here’, tetomota ‘there’ this means to show the location of the room and the place of conversation or interlocutor. Deixis time among others yindhie ‘today’, lombu ‘tomorrow’, olango ‘yesterday’, dumodupo ‘morning’, mohulonu ‘afternoon’, hui ‘night’ which have the meaning to show the time when the speech or sentence is being delivered.

Abstract

This study aims at describing the shape of illocutionary speech acts Javanese cultural background of teachers in school, describing the strategies and techniques politeness Javanese cultural background of teachers in school, describing the use of illocutionary speech acts teachers’ Javanese cultural backgrund based on gender perspective. Attention method is used by writer to collect the data by providing several techniques, namely: involved refer-free conversation techniques, recording techniques, and notes technique. The analysis of data by using a padan method. Based on the analysis of data can be retrieved 3 conclusions. First, all categories of illocutionary speech acts by Searle are found in formal activities in this study. Meanwhile, in a non-formal activity found three categories. Second, in the formal and non-formal activities, the strategy used by teachers to speak are direct strategy and indirect strategy. The technique used are literal and non literal. In addition, there is a combination between speech strategies and speech techniques. Third, based on a gender perspective, there are three things that discused in this study. (a) in general, directive speech act is the dominant used in this research. The use of sub-utterances instructing, requesting, giving guidance, and advising in a formal activities are dominant by nGP than nGL. However, the sub-TTD to order the use of nGL is higher than nGP. In the non-formal activities, sub-utterances instructing is dominant used by nGL than nGP. (c) teacher’s Javanese cultural background prefer to choose literal technique in their speech. (d) the most dominant combination of strategies and techniques used is direct speech act strategie and literal speech act technique.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the kinds of addressing terms manuscript and the reasons of using addressing terms used in Tangled Movie Manuscript. The type of this research is a descriptive qualitative research which takes a document oriented as the method of collecting data. By this method, the researchers uses Tangled movie manuscript as the data source, and the data taken are the expressions which contain addressing terms. The rate of addressing terms use first name is the biggest. Theresult of the research shows that there are five kinds namely, addressing using name (fist name, full name, and last name), addressing using intimacy, (3) addressing using kinship, (4) addressing using respect, and (5) addressing using mockery. Thestudy find seven reasons of addressing terms used in Tangled movie manuscript were showing solidarity, intimacy, mockery, power, respectful, and anger.

Abstract

The Child Right Convention articulated that education for children should be directed to respect their own cultural identity, language and values.  Similarly, from the perspectives of World Englishes the teaching of English is recommended to adopt local English as a way to empower the students’ local identity and accommodate their needs. This article is aimed at investigating the perspectives of English teachers working in primary education in Central Java Province, Indonesia. The data were gathered through interviews with 15 English teachers followed by questionnaires completed by 2033 English teachers. The results from the interviews showed that many teachers recognized the benefits of accommodating local English in the classroom for the children. Similarly, the majority of teachers completed the questionnaires positively predisposed of local English as the model for ELT in their local context.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe: (1) students’ perception of the essential meaning of the word tolerance on religious life and (2) students’ perception of  the contextual meaning of the word tolerance in religious life. The subjects were high school students Muhammmadiyah 1 and  2 Surakarta, total number of students,  97. Data were collected with an open questionnaire and interviews and analyzed with interactive analysis. The results showed that (1) threre were thirteen variations of students’ perception of the essential meaning of the word tolerance in religious life, (2) there were nine students’ perception of the contextual meaning of religious tolerance. Most of the thirteen perceptions were substantially similar to those of the KBBI (2007), however, having shorter and different wordings. The perception that semantically the same substance is dealing with respect other religions, while those with different wordings but semantically the same are not to insult, criticize, or make fun of other people of different religions, to know and understand other religious life, no discrimination to others, a sense of mutual need between one individual to another individual, tolerant of others, caring for others, respect other religions, maintaining good relations between people, not overbearing, giving opportunity to others, living in harmony, and mutual assistance in the community. The perception of the meaning of the word tolerance varies contextually as the following: having exactly the same wordings, having different wordings but semanti cally the same, and having different contextual meanings.

Abstract

The community empowerment program is a program provided to the community by conducting training to improve human resources and community income through local governments. The purpose of this study was to analyze the community empowerment program that will be implemented to increase community income in the Sitimulyo Village, Piyungan District, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Qualitative research method was used. The number of samples in the study were 30 respondents, data collection techniques used interviews supported by observation as well as secondary data and primary data. The results showed that the community empowerment program with the OVOP approach with training related to activities to increase skills development and entrepreneurship had been carried out by village officials through village community empowerment activities. That the empowerment program through the OVOP approach or One Vilage One Product is a training carried out by the local government, especially village officials with activities to increase community income through skills training and entrepreneurship by participating in the community in a good rated training program that will be given to the community successfully because of the enthusiasm of the invited community in following the training program. Village officials always try to provide any kind of assistance in terms of tools, materials and services for the success of the community empowerment program. This training program will increase community knowledge and skills in making a product by utilizing a variety of local food and so on until it can be produced which can later become an entrepreneur.Community empowerment with the OVOP approach is an empowerment program directed at (1) enabling, namely the creation of a climate capable of encouraging the development of community potential, (2) empowering, namely the potential possessed by the community is further strengthened and (3) protecting the potential of the weak community in all respects balanced protection is needed so that the competition formed runs healthily in an effort to make the community have the ability to run a business so as to increase people's income.
