Abstract

Financial inclusion becomes a priority concern with governments in ASEAN countries such as reduce the  lack  of  access  for  public  to  formal  financial  institutions.  Moreover,  there  is  an  empirical  gap  of linkages between institutions and financial inclusion. Thus, the study aims to estimate the effect of institutions on dynamic financial inclusion. Three financial inclusion indicators are employed, namely: debit card ownership, credit card ownership, and domestic credit to GDP ratio. Institutional indicators consist of six indicators following world governance indicators. The research observations are about 88 consisting of cross-sections were eight of ASEAN countries and the time series was 2008-2018. Indeed, a dynamic panel data was employed. In general, the findings exhibit that FEM is the appropriate model under Hausman test. Specifically, debit card ownership and credit card ownership were determined by voice and accountability, and rule of law while domestic credit to GDP ratio was determined by some indicators of institutions such as voice and accountability, political stability, regulatory quality, and control of corruption. Hence, the policy implications were directed to improve the quality of institutions both country and ASEAN levels. The high quality of institutions will stimulate the acceleration and expansion of financial inclusion in ASEAN countries.

Abstract

This study embarks on an investigation into the linkage between education and national output in Malaysia. Annual time series data on real gross domestic product (GDP), expenditure on education, fixed  capital  formation  and  labour  force  were  collected  from  1985  to  2018  and  the  Autoregressive Distributed-Lag (ARDL) method is applied in this study. The results of this study reveals that capital formation and education can cause higher national output in the long run. However, labour force does not have any connection with national output in the long run. Besides, the results also show short-run relationships. It is found that only capital formation has an influence national output in the short run but labour force and education do not have any effect on national output in Malaysia. Therefore, the government needs to increase its expenditure on education to boost national output. Other than that, the government must take other initiatives to increase expenditure on education.

Abstract

This current study analyses the technical efficiency of Indonesian motor vehicle manufacturing firms (ISIC 34100) and its selected important determinants. The technical efficiency scores are calculated using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the estimation on the determinants employs the panel data method. The output variable is the total value of output for each firm, whereas the input variables are material, workers, capital, and energy. The selected determinants affecting technical efficiency are export, import, capital-labour ratio, and foreign ownership. It is found that the average technical efficiency score under VRS is 0.81 during the period 2007-2013, with the lowest score is 0.53 in 2010 and the highest score is 0.89 in 2012. The findings from the estimation of important determinants show that export, capital-labour ratio, and foreign ownership provide a positive significant effect on the technical efficiency respectively. In contrast, import has a positive insignificant effect on the technical efficiency.

Abstract

Poverty has been one of the problems that are common among countries. If the government does not want debt to be more acute, then the government must place poverty alleviation as a priority. In making a poverty alleviation program, the government must consider the causes of poverty in an area. It will have different results when the application is implemented following the target program that is not on target. The empowerment of the poor through KUBE-FM is possible for the level of success. However, the failure rate to maintain group member solidarity is still high. Then the next challenge that must be faced by this KUBE group is industrial revolution 4.0, where all have implemented an automation system in production and advertising that uses the internet, such as internet media in marketing. In this  study,  the  authors  used  an  explorative  qualitative  method  to  find  out  the  KUBE-FM  Kuncara Lamb  strategy  in  maintaining  group  and  business  solidarity  in  the  Industrial  Revolution  4.0  era. The author uses miles and Huberman’s concept to analyze the data, namely, reduction, display, and concluding. KUBE-FM strategy, Kuncara Lamb, maintains group solidarity, namely: managing group dynamics that members can be an example for everyone, transparency in the budget, and maintain honesty. In facing the era of automation and the internet of things, KUBE-FM Kuncara Lamb only relies on person-to-person advertising through friendship and seminars and hard work.

Abstract

Investing in education for an individual is one of the best ways to improve their welfare. However, each individual’s returns from education investment vary depending on individual characteristics, household, and regional support. This study aims to analyze the rate of return on education of individuals in Indonesia in general and based on the characteristics of the residence and the individual’s economic level. Using the Mincer equation, the results of the study show that urban types functionally and administratively have a higher average rate of return than functional and administrative rural areas of 2.9% and 1.9%, respectively. In addition, the rate of return to education at the economic level of quantile 5 in urban areas is 2 times higher than that of quantile 1 in urban areas and quantile 5 in rural areas.

Abstract

Several provinces in Indonesia are still experiencing a crisis and the distribution of electricity is not evenly distributed. This is thought to be one of the causes of poverty and income inequality in several regions. Therefore, research on this matter is very important because electricity is a basic infrastructure whichis an important aspect in encouraging community economic activity as well as a tool that helps alleviate poverty and income inequality. This study used a simultaneous panel model, analyzed using the Two-Stage Least Square (TSLS) method, and used data from 31 provinces in Indonesia in 2010-2015. The results showed that electrification had a positive impact on economic growth. On the other hand, economic growth has a negative impact on poverty levels. However, an increase in electrification is actually indicated by an increase in income inequality in this study. So it can be concluded that economic growth is not enjoyed equally by people with low electrification ratios, but only by certain groups. The implication is that policies implemented to alleviate poverty and income inequality through increasing economic growth must pay attention to equal distribution of electricity, especially in areas based on labor-intensive industries, so that they are also able to attract investment and increase access to education.

Abstract

This research discusses occupational segregation of workers based on gender in 2015 - 2018 in Indonesia. This study also aims to measure the level of dissimilarity or how much segregation occurs in the labor market in Indonesia. The sample data used were both males and females labor includes residents aged 15 years and over, namely workers aged 35-44 years. Measurement of occupational segregation is based on between occupational groups and provinces which is explained by a dissimilarity index. A dissimilarity index was constructed to measure occupational segregation. First, the percentage of all workers in each province where each occupation group is calculated. This index is then half the absolute value of the difference between the specific locations of the distribution. The occupational structure in Indonesia during the observed period shows that there is no occupational segregation based on gender where the index number D tends to be closer to zero. The occupation of the leadership and management of men and women workers is the most integrated. From the index number D, it means that female workers are less segregated in all types of occupation in the labor market in Indonesia. Integration is showing signs of increasing in Professional occupations, technicians and the like; Administration; Sales Business; and agricultural, forestry, hunting and fishery businesses.
