Abstract

The Purung Ta Liang Marapu ritual represents a sacred cultural practice of the Central Sumba community, employing a specialized form of language as a medium of transcendental communication with ancestral entities (Marapu). However, the meanings and functions of this ritual language remain largely inaccessible to the general community and are primarily confined to traditional authorities (Ratu). This study aims to analyze the use of language in the ritual and to identify its social, cultural, and religious-magical functions from a sociolinguistic perspective. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive sociolinguistic method. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with Ratu and traditional elders, and audio-visual documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that ritual language constitutes a sacred register characterized by archaic diction, parallelism, and formulaic expressions. Sociolinguistically, it functions as a mechanism of social legitimacy, a tool for social cohesion, and a medium for transmitting cultural values and Marapu beliefs. Additionally, ritual language exhibits performative properties that contribute to maintaining the balance between humans, ancestors, and the natural world. The limited public understanding is attributed to the exclusivity of oral transmission. Therefore, systematic linguistic documentation is essential to preserve cultural continuity and to bridge intergenerational knowledge gaps in the context of modernization.

Abstract

The use of WhatsApp messaging can lead to violations of language ethics and a lack of awareness of the values of good and responsible communication. To establish effective communication, students must understand and apply ethics and integrity when sending text messages, especially among students at Bangka Belitung University. This study aims to describe and analyze ethics and integrity in communication, especially among students. This study also uses a qualitative approach with a case study method of Bangka Belitung University students. The research method is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The main data source in this study was 40 randomly selected students from the class of 2023. Meanwhile, the analysis technique was carried out using data triangulation, namely using various data sources such as observations, questionnaires, case studies, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to strengthen the findings. The results show that communication ethics in text messages include choosing the right time, using opening and closing greetings, conveying one's identity, and using formal, concise, clear language that conforms to the Enhanced Spelling System (EYD). Applying these principles, including rereading messages before sending, can help students build polite, effective, and professional communication with lecturers. The conclusion of this study is that the application of ethics and integrity in communication can contribute to the creation of a more harmonious and professional academic environment not only for students but also for various other interests.

Abstract

Egosentrisme merupakan kondisi anak yang terlalu fokus pada diri sendiri sehingga merasa dirinya paling penting dan mengabaikan orang lain. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dalam dongeng Gadis yang Pemalas dan Pohon yang Sombong di kanal Youtube Indonesian Fairy Tales dan menjelaskan nilai pendidikan karakter dalam dongeng Gadis yang Pemalas dan Pohon yang Sombong sebagai media untuk mengikis egosentrisme pada anak. Metode yang digunakan, yaitu deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini, yaitu simak dan catat. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah model interaktif menurut Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri atas tahapan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam dongeng Gadis yang Pemalas dan Pohon yang Sombong, yaitu toleransi, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, demokratis, menghargai prestasi, bersahabat/komunikatif, cinta damai, peduli lingkungan, peduli sosial, dan tanggung jawab. Nilai demokratis dapat digunakan untuk mengikis sikap mementingkan diri sendiri. Nilai bersahabat/komunikatif dan cinta damai dapat digunakan untuk mengikis sikap kurang peka terhadap situasi sosial. Nilai peduli sosial dapat digunakan untuk mengikis sikap kurang peduli terhadap orang lain. Nilai toleransi dapat digunakan untuk mengikis sikap merasa diri paling benar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bentuk dan fungsi wacana kekuasaan dalam tuturan Ustadz Jaelani pada film Qorin dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis Fairclough. Analisis difokuskan pada dua dimensi, yaitu dimensi teks dan dimensi praktik wacana. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui pengamatan dan pencatatan tuturan dalam film. Pada dimensi teks, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tuturan Ustadz Jaelani ditandai oleh penggunaan bahasa yang tegas, mengikat, dan cenderung satu arah, sehingga mencerminkan dominasi sebagai figur otoritas di lingkungan pesantren. Pilihan kata, struktur kalimat, serta gaya penyampaian memperkuat posisi kuasa yang dimiliki tokoh tersebut. Sementara itu, pada dimensi praktik wacana, bahasa yang digunakan berfungsi untuk mempertahankan struktur sosial yang hierarkis, mengarahkan perilaku santri, serta membangun kepatuhan melalui legitimasi peran ustadz sebagai pemegang otoritas. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kekuasaan dalam film Qorin tidak hanya direpresentasikan melalui tindakan, tetapi juga melalui bahasa yang digunakan dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa bahasa memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk hubungan sosial, mengontrol perilaku, serta memperkuat posisi kekuasaan dalam lingkungan pesantren.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan: (1) bentuk-bentuk marginalisasi perempuan, (2) faktor-faktor penyebab marginalisasi perempuan, dan (3) bentuk perlawanan terhadap marginalisasi perempuan dalam cerpen-cerpen karya Indra Tranggono. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan kritik sastra feminisme. Sumber data penelitian yang digunakan yakni cerpen Perempuan Hujan, Liang, Di atas Tanah Retak, Perempuan Bulan Perak, dan Sonya Rury. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah human instrumen berupa teknik baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini melalui tiga tahap yaitu, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Bentuk-bentuk marginalisasi perempuan yaitu kontrol atas daya produktif, kontrol atas reproduksi dan seksualitas, kontrol gerak perempuan, kontrol atas hak berpendapat, kontrol atas kepemilikan harta atau sumber daya ekonomi, dan kontrol atas gangguan keadaan sosial. Bentuk marginalisasi perempuan yang dominan muncul yaitu kontrol atas reproduksi dan seksualitas. Temuan ini mengarisbawahi bahwa akar penindasan perempuan dalam sistem patriarki adalah kontrol terhadap tubuh, reproduksi, dan seksualitas perempuan yang diposisikan sebagai objek keturunan dan pemuas nafsu laki-laki. (2) Faktor penyebab marginalisasi yang dialami oleh tokoh perempuan yang diwujudkan berdasarkan empat bagian yaitu keluarga, masyarakat, negara, ekonomi, dan ideologi. Penyebab marginalisasi perempuan yang dominan muncul yaitu faktor negara yang Abuse power dan Paternalistik. Tindakan represif negara merupakan bentuk dari sistem patriarki dan paternalistik yang bertujuan menekan, membatasi, atau menghambat kebebasan perempuan. (3) Respon terhadap marginalisasi perempuan berupa upaya perlawanan dan upaya bertahan. Respon terhadap marginalisasi yang dominan ditemukan adalah upaya melawan marginalisasi yang dialami oleh tokoh perempuan dalam kehidupannya (vigilantisme, perlawanan kultural, dan simbolis).

Abstract

Literature learning in the era of digital transformation requires the strengthening of students’ critical literacy so they can interpret, evaluate, and construct meaning reflectively, not merely understand texts literally. The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) offers opportunities to enrich literature learning, yet creates risks of dependence on instant answers when not pedagogically guided. This study examined the effectiveness of an AI-based literature learning model in improving students’ critical literacy and described their responses to AI integration under the Merdeka Curriculum. The study employed a quantitative approach with a nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 360 eleventh-grade students at public senior high school in Kediri City, Indonesia. A total of 120 students were selected through purposive sampling and divided into an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 60 students. The instruments included a critical literacy test consisting of 20 essay questions, a student response questionnaire, and an observation sheet. The treatment was implemented over six weeks through 12 learning sessions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, gain score, and Cohen’s d. The results showed that the experimental group increased from 56.4 to 84.7, while the control group increased from 55.9 to 67.2. The independent sample t-test on gain scores indicated a significant difference, with t=12.47, p=0.000, and Cohen’s d=1.82. Student responses were positive, with 86.7% stating that AI supported critical thinking. These findings indicate that AI-based literature learning is effective and relevant for strengthening critical literacy in Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the character of Ang San Mei in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s novel Jejak Langkah through the lens of Simone de Beauvoir’s existentialist feminism. Ang San Mei is a Chinese female character who experiences multiple layers of subordination as a woman, a member of an ethnic minority, and a colonial subject; however, she has not yet been specifically studied using existentialist feminist theory that takes into account the ethnicity and colonialism she experiences. The character of Ang San Mei was chosen for analysis because, although she has been depicted as fighting for her existence, studies on her remain very limited. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques. The data sources consist of the narratives, dialogues, and actions of the character Mei in the novel Jejak Langkah. The analytical framework is based on Beauvoir’s four strategies of transcendence: women can work, women can be intellectuals, women can work to achieve social transformation, and women refuse to internalize their subjugation. The results of the study indicate that Mei embodies all four forms of transcendence: asserting economic independence through her work as a teacher and cook; demonstrating intellectualism through geopolitical analysis and organizational awareness; contributing to social transformation through her involvement in Angkatan Muda and propaganda activities; refused to internalize her otherness by defining herself through her own will and idealism. This study concludes that despite experiencing layered subordination, Mei succeeded in transcending her social limitations and asserting herself as an autonomous subject through transcendence.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini membahas representasi aktor sosial pada pemberitaan perang Israel dengan Iran dalam media online Republika pada periode Juni 2025. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan aktor sosial Israel dalam pemberitaan menggunakan pendekatan representasi aktor sosial, analisis wacana kritis model Theo van Leeuwen. Metode kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini, sedangkan teknik analisis pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis distribusional, yaitu metode analisis yang menjadi alat penentunya adalah bahasa itu sendiri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media online Republika memberitakan aktor-aktor sosial Israel seperti negara Israel, perdana menteri Benjamin Netanyahu, dan pejabat Israel secara eksplisit dengan lebih banyak merepresentasikannya menggunakan strategi inklusi seperti Determinasi-Indeterminasi, Nominasi-Identifikasi, dan Nominasi-Kategorisasi, Objektivasi-Abstraksi, Diferensiasi-Indiferensiasi, dan Asimilasi-individualisasi, sehingga pembaca mengetahui dengan jelas apa yang dilakukan aktor-aktor tersebut. Temuan ini menunjukkan peran penting media dalam menyampaikan informasi dan mereproduksi realitas untuk pembaca. Kata Kunci: Analisis wacana kritis, Representasi aktor sosial, Theo van Leeuwen, Republika   Abstract This research examines the representation of social actors in the news coverage of the Israel-Iran war in the online media outlet Republika during June 2025. This study aims to describe the social actors of Israel in the news using the social actor representation approach, the critical discourse analysis model by Theo van Leeuwen. A qualitative, descriptive method was used in this research, while the analysis technique employed was distributional analysis, which uses the language itself as the determining tool. The research results show that the online media Republika explicitly reports on Israeli social actors such as the state of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Israeli officials by representing them more thoroughly through inclusion strategies such as Determination-Indeterminacy, Nomination-Identification, Nomination-Categorization, Objectivation-Abstraction, Differentiation-Indifferentiation, and Assimilation-Individualization, so that readers clearly understand what these actors are doing. These findings highlight the important role of the media in conveying information and reproducing reality for readers. Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe errors in official letter writing at the Kampung Baru Village Office in 2025 and analyze the various factors behind the occurrence of these errors. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a content analysis method. The data source in this study is an archive of official letters sourced from 50 outgoing letters at the Kampung Baru Village Office in 2025. The data in this study are errors in outgoing letter writing at the Kampung Baru Village Office. All data were obtained through documentation and interview techniques, then analyzed referring to the theory of language errors in official letters. The results showed that there were 237 error data based on nine categories of letter writing. Language errors in the letter content were the most dominant finding with a frequency of 57 data. Other significant errors were found in the writing of letter numbers (36 data) and letter addresses (35 data). Specifically, errors in the letter content include errors in the use of capital letters, sentence structure, common abbreviations, writing rupiah nominals, writing colons (:), writing the suffix -nya, to the format for writing NIP and the name of the signatory that does not comply with the latest rules. The factors causing these errors include communication barriers in understanding instructions from higher-level agencies, overlapping workloads (multitasking), the lack of a specific guidebook for official scripts in the village office, and inaccuracy in the choice of diction. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the quality of correspondence at the Kampung Baru Village Office still requires significant improvement through the provision of applicable technical guidelines and the implementation of regular technical guidance training for village officials.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam membaca puisi, khususnya pada aspek kepercayaan diri, motivasi, pelafalan, intonasi, ekspresi, serta penghayatan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran ARIAS terhadap kemampuan membaca puisi siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta TPI Labuhanbatu. Model ARIAS terdiri atas lima komponen utama, yaitu Assurance, Relevance, Interest, Assessment, dan Satisfaction, yang diarahkan untuk membangun keyakinan belajar, keterkaitan materi, minat, penilaian, serta kepuasan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain Pre-Experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 20 siswa kelas VIII-A yang ditentukan melalui teknik Simple Random Sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes unjuk kerja, observasi, dokumentasi, dan angket. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa instrumen yang digunakan telah memenuhi kriteria validitas dan reliabilitas, sedangkan uji normalitas menunjukkan bahwa data berdistribusi normal. Selanjutnya, hasil uji paired sample t-test memperoleh nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000, lebih kecil dari taraf signifikansi 0,05. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil pretest dan posttest setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran ARIAS. Peningkatan rata-rata nilai sebesar 37,75 menunjukkan bahwa model ARIAS memberikan dampak positif terhadap kemampuan membaca puisi siswa. Dengan demikian, model pembelajaran ARIAS dapat dinyatakan efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca puisi siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta TPI Labuhanbatu. This study was conducted in response to students’ low ability in poetry reading, particularly in terms of self-confidence, motivation, pronunciation, intonation, expression, and appreciation. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the ARIAS learning model on the poetry reading skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Swasta TPI Labuhanbatu. The ARIAS model, which consists of Assurance, Relevance, Interest, Assessment, and Satisfaction, is designed to strengthen students’ confidence, connect learning materials with their needs, increase interest, provide assessment, and create learning satisfaction. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The sample consisted of 20 students from class VIII-A, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through performance tests, observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The results showed that all research instruments met the criteria of validity and reliability, while the normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed. Furthermore, the paired sample t-test produced a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. This result indicates a significant difference between students’ pretest and posttest scores after the implementation of the ARIAS learning model. The increase in the mean score by 37.75 points demonstrates that the ARIAS model had a positive impact on students’ poetry reading ability. Therefore, the ARIAS learning model can be considered effective in improving the poetry reading skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Swasta TPI Labuhanbatu.
