Abstract

Numerous studies have reported that several factors negatively and positively affect academic procrastination among college students, such as time management, motivation, self-efficacy, coping styles, self-worth, self esteem, and etc. The studies reported that self-efficacy, fear of failure, parent style, and academic climate are related with academic procrastination. Students with high level of procrastination reported that they have low level of self-efficacy, fear of failure, parent style, and academic climate. The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between self-efficacy, fear of failure, parent style, and academic climate on academic procrastination. The participants were 90 students who study at the Guidance and Counselling, Faculty of Education in IKIP PGRI Madiun. Each participant completed five scales: the self-efficacy scales, the fear of failure scales, the parent style, the academic climate, and the academic procrastination. This result of this research suggests that in general, there is a very significant correlation between self-efficacy, fear of failure, parent style, and academic climate. Effective total contribution of self-efficacy, fear of failure, parent style, and academic climate to academic procrastination are 0.193%,and the greatestcontribution is from academic climate, 0.058%.

Abstract

Students' perceptions of Statistics related to the their learning outcomes. Perception is the process of consciousness, namely the consciousness of an object which delivers to the understanding, the process or the ability to feel the results of knowledge and so obtained with a feeling and sense or intuition that is abstract. Perception will lead someone on giving meaning to the notion of something. Students' perceptions of subjects Statistics describes the level of students' knowledge and understanding of the statistics. The purposes of this study are: (1) determine the students' perception of on Statistics, (2) determine the influence of students' perception on Statistics. This study used the design of Mixed Methods, which consists of two types of research, the first one was qualitative research and another one was quantitative. The sample is taken from the students of fourth semester study program Primary Age Students Teachers' Training IKIP PGRI Madiun in the Academic Year of 2013/2014 consists of 28 students. Data collection techniques used are questionnaires and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study used a qualitative descriptive technique. In addition to these techniques are also used in the form of a hypothesis test Spearman test.Based on the results the following results: (1) Students' Perceptions of Statistics Course outlines included into good category; (2) There is no influence of students' perceptions in statistics course. It is evident in the results or the value of P = 0.124 (P > 0.05) and the value of r xy = 0.294, which means the relationship between students' perceptions about Statistical study and the learning achievement is weak.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to get profile of visual thinking of prospective teachers of mathematics in understanding formal definitions of convergent sequences based on gender differences. This study focused more on the process than the results. The results of the study are presented in the form of descriptions based on empirical data. Therefore, it used descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach. To get the depth of the data, it selected one male subject and one female subject. Method of task-based interviews with semi-structured format was used to collect the data. The time triangulation is used to validate the data. Reduction, categorization, synthesis, and inferences are used to analyze the data. The results showed that: 1) The male student does four stages or activities to understand the formal definition of convergent sequences, that is: to recognize, to imagine, to show, and to conclude. The activity to show can be categorized into two sub-activities; namely: to show a picture of convergent sequences and to show a picture attribute of the definition. The sequence of activities to understand was carried out by the male student in not a linear fashion. Profile of visual thinking of male prospective teacher of mathematics in understanding formal definitions of convergent sequences is obtained from on the information processing activities that involve mental imagery. Mental imagery processing is done through three stages, namely: to construct mental imagery, to processing mental imagery, and to utilize mental imagery. The stages of processing mental imagery can be categorized into two sub-stages; namely: to determine mental imagery and to refine mental imagery. 2) The female student does four stages or activities to understand the formal definition of convergent sequences, namely: to recognize, to imagine, to show, and to conclude. The activity to show can be categorized into two sub-activities; namely: to show a picture of convergent sequence and to show a picture attribute of the definition. To understand the sequence of activities was performed by female student in a linear fashion. Profile of visual thinking of female prospective teacher of mathematics in understandingformal definitions of convergent sequences is obtained from the information processing activities that involve mental imagery. Mental imagery processing is done through three stages namely: to construct mental imagery, to processing mental imagery, and to utilize mental imagery. The stages of processingmental imagery can be categorized into two sub-stages; namely: to determine mental imagery and to refine mental imagery. 3) Regardless of the differences in the representation and processing sequence as well as the activities and the use of mental imagery, there are similarities in the understanding of theformal definition of convergent sequences. To understand the formal definition of convergent sequences, students do four phases of activities, namely: to recognize, to imagine, to show, and to conclude. The activity to show can be categorized into two sub-activities; namely: to show a picture of convergent sequences and to show a picture attribute of the definition. Mental imagery processing is done through three stages, namely: to construct mental imagery, to processing mental imagery, and to utilize mental imagery.

Abstract

AbstractFor some children, mathematics learning is an annoying thing. They are afraid because they do not understand, don’t smart to count and don’t answer to teacher questions quickly. They were also sued by their parents to understand the mathematics, but they may not love it. This is why the stigma of mathematics as a scary lesson never collapse. If parents want their children can solve a math problem, then parents should motivate a love of mathematics from an early age. While the task of the teacher in the school is to develop a process of a funny mathematics learning. By instilling a love of math foundation early and applying mathematics learning fun, the children will be free. When a child in a state of independence, it will accept science easily. Ki Hadjar Dewantara constantly reiterated that education would go well if the student has the inner independent, physical independent, mind-independent and strength independent. This is consistent with the Tamansiswa educational goals is building human physical and inner and with the sublimity of mind and physical become useful members of society and responsible for the welfare of the nation and the homeland as well as people in general.
