Abstract

Background: This research is motivated by issues and problems related to copyright infringement, including theft, copying, and the unauthorized distribution of content in libraries. The American Library Association (ALA) developed a technology to control access, track, and limit the use of digital content called Digital Rights Management (DRM). Unfortunately, the research on the implementation of DRM as an effort to protect ebook collections is still limited in Indonesia. Objective: This research aims to analyze the implementation of DRM ebook collection protection as a form of protection for digital content. Methods: A qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and document study methods. The data analysis technique used is thematic analysis. Results: The results of the data analysis show that the digital library DRM ebook collection at Digital Library “X” does not meet the technical implementation of DRM. This can be seen from the purpose of holding the digital library itself, namely, to provide collections without limiting access to users, so that the technical implementation of DRM, which includes access, use, and distribution, has not been fulfilled. Conclusion: These results indicate that the Digital Library “X” seeks to protect digital collections by not allowing users to download and copy content from DRM ebook collections. Further research should focus on the research by choosing one of the aspects to answer the DRM challenge in libraries in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Community-based libraries rely heavily on volunteers to sustain their programs and services. However, volunteer empowerment and organizational sustainability can be limited without structured knowledge sharing and management. Limbah Pustaka Library, a community library in Indonesia, has implemented various initiatives to optimize the contribution of its volunteers. Objective. This study explored the importance of knowledge management in empowering volunteers at Limbah Pustaka Library, Purbalingga. The research is motivated by the limited human resources in village libraries and the need for knowledge management strategies to enable volunteers to contribute sustainably to library services and community development.Research Methods. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through interviews with volunteers and library staff, participant observation of library activities, and review of relevant documents. The data analysis followed a sequential data condensation, presentation, and concluding process.Data Analysis. In addition to descriptive analysis, data were analyzed thematically to identify evidence of each SECI stage and assess its impact on volunteer empowerment. The analysis focused on knowledge sharing and creation patterns corresponding to the SECI processes.Result. The results indicate that all four SECI stages manifested in the volunteer program. Socialization occurred through group discussions and collaborative activities among volunteers; externalization was achieved by documenting volunteers' tacit knowledge into guides and procedures; combination involved integrating various explicit information into shared resources; and Internalization took place through training and hands-on practice. Implementing the SECI model enhanced knowledge sharing and volunteer collaboration, improving service innovation and community engagement.Conclusion. In conclusion, SECI-based knowledge management effectively empowered the Library Wastevolunteers, as evidenced by increased collaboration and innovative service delivery. These findings support using structured knowledge management strategies in community library programs.

Abstract

Background: Plagiarism violates academic integrity and includes submitting others’ work without proper acknowledgment. In higher education, librarians play a crucial role in its prevention. This study examines the role of librarians in preventing plagiarism at Diponegoro University, State University of Semarang, and Dian Nuswantoro University. Although similar studies have been conducted previously, none have specifically explored the role of librarians in preventing plagiarism from the perspectives of academic librarians at these three institutions. Objective: This study aims to explore the role of librarians in preventing plagiarism at higher education institutions at three higher education institutions: Diponegoro University, State University of Semarang, and Dian Nuswantoro University. Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. Informants were selected using purposive sampling. This study involved six librarians as informants, consisting of two librarians from each of the three universities. Data analysis was conducted using within-case analysis and cross-case analysis. Results: The findings indicate that librarians play several roles in preventing plagiarism. These roles include sharing information, providing guidance or consultation, conducting training or instruction, offering plagiarism detection services, and collaborating with external parties. The study also identified various challenges librarians face in carrying out these roles. Conclusion: Overall, librarians have implemented various efforts to prevent plagiarism effectively. However, this research only involved librarians and was limited at three higher education institutions. It is therefore recommended that future research includes other stakeholders, such as students and lecturers, and expands the research scope to gain a more comprehensive understanding and develop broader, applicable solutions.

Abstract

Background: Libraries play an important role in the teaching and learning process, especially in the realm of higher education. Generally, university libraries have complete facilities, but there are still minimal visitors. The lack of interest in visiting students in university libraries may be caused by factors in the library service system, including less friendly staff services or less aesthetic library layout. The research background starts from the condition of the UIN Ponorogo library which has minimal student visits, even though it has thousands of students. Objective: This study aims to determine the significant influence between independent variables (service system and aesthetics of library spatial layout) and bound variables (interest in visiting students of the Department of Islamic Education Management semester 4, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Ponorogo. Methods: This study uses quantitative and observational methods, sampling through non-probability sampling techniques with a sampling quota of 30 Islamic Education Management students in the 4th semester. Data collection through a questionnaire via google form, with a Likert scale. The analysis method used multiple linear regression analysis. Observation was carried out by directly observing the condition of the UIN Ponorogo library and analyzing library visit data. Conclusion: The results showed that the service system had a positive and insignificant effect on visitor interest, while spatial aesthetics had a positive and significant effect on visitor interest at a significance level of 5%. Simultaneously, the two variables had a positive and significant influence on visitor interest at a significance level of 5%. The service system contributed 6% and spatial aesthetics 20% to the interest of visitors, with a total donation of 26%. Thus, both variables had moderate influence, with 74% coming from other factors outside the study.
