Abstract

Background: The national level of basic literacy skills in Indonesia, as assessed by the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), remains alarmingly low. This is an anomaly considering the implementation of the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah/GLS) at the elementary school level, which has introduced various strategies for enhancing basic literacy skills. Objective: Therefore, this study aims to analyze strategies for improving basic literacy skills among elementary school students to support an increase in PISA scores. Methods: The research method employed in this study is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which involved analyzing journal articles published between 2019 and 2024 related to strategies for enhancing basic literacy skills in elementary school students in Surabaya. The researchers reviewed five journal articles obtained from Google Scholar. Results: The findings reveal several strategies that have been implemented to improve basic literacy skills among elementary school students, including literacy habituation through GLS and teaching methods such as the formation of literacy clubs, reading aloud, and the use of visual media. Necessary support includes the provision of facilities and infrastructure, awarding incentives, and collaborative support from all stakeholders. Meanwhile, obstacles include the absence of a dedicated literacy team, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and changes in school leadership policies regarding literacy activities. Conclusion: The strategy to improve basic literacy involves holistic efforts through habitual literacy activities, student-centered teaching methods, and collaborative support from all stakeholders (schools, parents, communities, governments, and private sectors), aiming to enhance students' critical thinking, global mindset, and PISA performance while addressing challenges like inadequate resources and policy changes.

Abstract

Background: Open-access is free online access to articles, journal, conferences proceedings, book series and trade journal which provides unrestricted and permit the users to read, download, print, copy and link to the articles. Many articles that discuss the journal metrics using basic statistical methods to discribe the journal. Objective: This research groups journals based on numerical quality measures, identifying quality characteristics for each group. The findings provide a reference for researchers to select suitable journals and for journal owners to improve journal quality. Methods: There is another method to describe the open-access journal by grouping it into groups with the homogeneous characteristics based on five types of numerical quality measure that are analyzed simultaneously, namely cluster analysis. By using cluster analysis, the article’s owner can determine which journals he can choose to publish it in according to the desired journal quality. Based in the result, 5146 open-access journals can be divided into four clusters by using CLARA algorithm. Cluster 1, 2 and 3 have high characteristics in all numerical quality measure and cluster 4 have low characteristics in all numerical quality measure. So that researchers can choose journals in clusters 1, 2, and 3 as a place to publish their research by adjusting the journal's scope. Results: This study demonstrates that the CLARA algorithm successfully grouped 5146 open-access journals indexed by SCOPUS into four clusters based on quality characteristics. Cluster 1 consists of 39 journals with high values across all quality variables, Cluster 2 includes 50 journals with similarly high values, Cluster 3 contains 430 journals with comparable characteristics, and Cluster 4, comprising 4627 journals, exhibits low values in all quality variables. Furthermore, the majority of journals (89.914%) have numerical quality measures below the average. Conclusion: This study concludes that journals in Clusters 1, 2, and 3 can be recommended as suitable options for researchers to publish their work, considering the relevance of the journal's scope. Additionally, these findings can serve as a reference for journal owners to improve the quality of their journals to meet higher standards.

Abstract

Background: Records retention schedule is an instrument in records appraisal phase. One of component in the schedule represents the final fate of records in an organization, that is “keterangan”. Theoretically, the number of documents that are justified as permanent records should be not be greater than the documents that should be destroyed. Objective: This paper aims to describe the results of mapping and analysis of the final decision components on the records retention schedules. By mapping the final decision components on the schedule, we will know the comparative percentages of records that should be permanent than should be destroyed. The author then analyzed the causes and impacts for records management in creator institutions. Methods: The research conducted is a qualitative study with a content analysis approach combined with in-depth interviews. The author uses the provincial government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta as the research case. Results: There were variations were found in the final decision components which are recommendations for the execution of records disposal, namely destroyed, permanent, re-appraisal, and others. The number of record series recommended to be destroyed is greater than the number of record series recommended to be permanent. However, this comparison is still not in line with the quantity of archives that are made permanent according to various experts, which is in the range of 1% to 10%. Those phenomena were suspected to have emerged as a result of the concerns of the creators over the risks that must be weighted if the document is immediately declared as destroyed and/or permanent. Conclusion: The practical implication is that it can provide an illustration that there is still an asynchronization in understanding the function of appraisal and disposal, especially in understanding retention schedule and records values as an instrument. Some future researches need to explore how arsiparis making a disposal decision so that we can understand records urgency for their creators and public.

Abstract

Background: Understanding the characteristics of library users is crucial to identifying library anxiety and improving user experience and the effectiveness of information searching. Library anxiety can stem from various factors, including user perceptions, library facilities, and services. Objective: This study aimed to determine the accuracy and similarity of questionnaire indicators on anxiety instruments using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The focus was limited to evaluating the indicators of library anxiety instruments. Methods: A quantitative approach was employed using CFA to analyze the validity and reliability of the indicators related to library anxiety. The study analyzed responses from users of the Library and Knowledge Center @Senayan.Results: The findings showed that library anxiety did not stem from the library itself or its staff. Instead, the LA10 indicator (the use of lockers) revealed that while users felt safe using lockers, they experienced inconvenience due to carrying many items. Meanwhile, indicators LA11 (library design) and LA12 (temperature and air quality) did not meet the criteria. During the study, the temperature and air quality were suboptimal but were repaired by December 2024. The library design is currently under renovation planning with an improved layout. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of understanding user perceptions in addressing library anxiety. Improvements in facilities, including lockers, temperature, air quality, and library design, play a significant role in reducing anxiety and enhancing user satisfaction.
