Abstract

This study aims to determine self-expression through the values you want to appear in clothing consumption among adolescent girls as the main consumers of fashion products, to wear certain clothing types, and describes how to overcome obstacles that arise in expressing themselves through fashion. The research methodology used a qualitative descriptive method that focuses on observation and natural setting. Researchers acting as an observer, then create a category of behavior, observed symptoms, and record observations in a book. The research was conducted at the University of Semarang. The subjects in this study is the Student Department of Communication Class of 2008, FTIK, USM, while samples taken by 4 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. Fashion outline as an essential element of fashion and became the core of the interface itself for some adolescent girls, are used to convey messages with specific purposes to be conveyed by the wearer.

Abstract

Klenteng Sam Po Kong has very deep meaning as a symbol of multi cultural; multi ethnic and multi religious. Klenteng Sam Po Kong has a different function, not only used by people with background religious Tri Dharma (Budha, Tao and Konghuchu), but also used by Javanese ethnic with different religious backgrounds. Between ethnic China and Java, mutual respect and tolerance run beliefs and rituals of each. More over, Klenteng Sam Po Kong is a form of pluralism which reflected the fact Sino Javanese Muslim Culture is preserved to date both of sightings physical culture and system cultural in the form of religious rites performed by ethnic China and Java.

Abstract

The article tries to find out the construction of the image formation in the daily Solopos 2014 candidates. Basic theoretically in this paper uses descriptive analysis method with a form of text analysis models Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki through four units of analysis, syntax, script, thematic, and Rhetorical. Framing analysis is used to see how the image formation through the political news in the Daily Solopos 2014 candidates. Through this analysis can be found that the construction of a shadow image (mirror image) performed on the outlook for both candidates figure formed by the track record of each kandindat. Joko Widodo figure in the frame with the figure of the fight for the people and work for the people, while the figure Prabowo has a bad track record as it is considered to participate in the abduction tragedy in which 98 activists at that time as a military Prabowo.

Abstract

This research is conducted to describe caring extent of Kompas and Media Indonesia towards child education in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province after tsunami disaster, using content analysis approach. Data was analyzed using intercoder reliability to measure degree of reliability between coders and media. Agenda Setting and Social Responsibility theories are used to depict media roles on instructing what should be considered by daily readers, in order to portray media social responsibilities, indicating media regard ness. Research final gains, showing that Kompas and Media Indonesia, as printed mass media representations, possessing poor average of caring extent towards child education in post-apocalyptic region, by the amount of 42, 86 %. Amongst seven indicators of research, there are only three indicators that refer to significant degree of caring extent foreshortening medias social responsibility, i.e; news title readability applying substantive method, using comprehendable words; informant selection congruent with news theme; news angle emphasizing certain indicator taken from 5W+1H concept.

Abstract

High definition technology development in the entertainment industry, especially film industry, has produce classic problem about format consensus in the media industry. This situation eventually creates the so called war of format between the two most popular high definition formats, the Blu-ray from Sony/Hitachi and the HD DVD from Toshiba. Unlike the war of format before, for example is VHS versus Betamax war, that determinated mostly by the consumer, the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD is strongly affect by the abilities of the companies behind the two format to consentrate and integrate their business moghul and also to make alliance between competitiors. Concentration of ownership is appears in the trend of holywood studios to merge with the bigger studios, which is creates a few conglomeration in the movie business. Integrations of business could be seen from the owners of the big studios that not only have the studios, but also many other business that relate or not with the entertainment business. And least, the alliance could be seen from this big studios alliance to support one of the format.Initially the HD DVD was on the fruitfull position because has been back up by the studios like Warner Bros, Paramount, and Universal that have more market share in US that the studios that support Blu-ray format, which is Sony, Walt Disneym and 20th Century Fox. Fortunately for Blu-ray, Sony already sells millions of PS 3 console that ingeniously could read Blu-ray disk; this means there s already millions of Blu-ray reader device in the hand of consument, something that Toshiba could not generate. In the end, the victory of Blu-ray format is accelerate by the switching side of Warner Brothers studio to the Blu-ray follow by the others big studios.Conclusively, the success of a new technology, especially the media industry, is sometimes not depends on the quality of the technology itself. Often, the success is determined by the availability of the industries that support the technology. The war of format between HD DVD and Blu-ray definitely show the determination of media industry in the development of new technology.

Abstract

Water hyacinth plants for most residents in the village Tuntang considered a weed in large amounts. Water hyacinth lead to silting in waters such as lakes and ponds, but the diffusion of innovation, a lot of business opportunities that can be produced from water hyacinth handicraft businesses. Villagers Tuntang made of water hyacinth as a craft material that has a high value ekomoni. The method used is qualitative descriptive with case study strategy in the village Tuntang. The result through interpersonal communication to make success in the diffusion process of water hyacinth handicraft innovation for residents in the village Tuntang, Semarang regency.

Abstract

This research was emerged by Centra Java Government policy which placed tourism sector as the second key sectors beside agriculture and industries. A kind of tourism force is by ecotourism wich environmentally responsible travel and visits to relatively undisturbed natural areas, in order to enjoy and appreciate nature and any accompanying cultural features, both past and present, that promote conservation, has low visitor impact, and provides for beneficially active socio-economic involvement of local population. Then, the strategic communication choose Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) to increase them. PRA is a participatory approach, new innovation method for improving efficacy and rapidity in data collection. Participatory method was interested the community in prepare the action program and developing the learning process forsolving the environment problems. Leading by Pamong Budaya as opinion leader, this strategic communication is a way tocreate an effective communication and automatically help rural community to increase their live by ecotourism.

Abstract

The paper aims to understand and describe the understanding of interpersonal communication is done by married couples of different countries in the intermarriage. The theoretical basis of this research is interactionism symbolic by George Herbert mead (1934 ) describes the thinking is the interaction that occurs in an individual, how language is essential for the formation of human characteristics which consist of Mind, Self and Society. The process of symbolic form of messages and symbols. Based on research that has been done, it can be concluded that the verbal and nonverbal communication is a form of symbolic interaction that happens to couples from different countries and the adjustment effort in communicating basically used by mutual consent.

Abstract

This research is conducted to described and verified communication functions on television program called Bukan Empat Mata on Trans7. This research used survey method. Primary data gathered from questionnaires, while secondary data collected from related literatures. Research final gains, showing that Bukan Empat Mata serves two mass-communication functions, which are surveillance and linkage functions from media upon society, especially Bukan Empat Mata audiences come from Semarang University academics.

Abstract

Presidential Election in 2009 has gives us some negative phenomenon. The Hijab Campaign, Boediono Wife s Religion, and other religio-politics issues were annoyingly interpolating the better campaigns. In one hand this is a bad phenomenon, but on the other hand this phenomenon also gives us some interesting questions about political tolerance in Indonesia. Mass media as the fourth estate surely can t get away from their responsibility. Uniquely many of big mass media in Indonesia have affiliations with certain religions. The example is Republika with their Muslim affiliations. This phenomenon become interesting to study, moreover Indonesia is one of the biggest democratic countries in the world that surely need political tolerance to strengthen their democratic system. It s become interesting to inquire the editorial policy in Republika in their news on religio-politic in presidential campaign. It s also become interesting to understand the Islamic model that Republika adopted that maybe affected their editorial policy. Last, it s become interesting to find out Republika s political tolerance, especially in the presidential campaign. All of this inquiry could be found using the gatekeeping analysis from Pamela Shoemaker that map out factors that could affect media content from five levels. Those levels are individual, organizational, communication routine, extra-media, and social system.This research is use post-positivistic paradigm. The theories used here is gatekeeping from Pamela Shoemaker, political tolerance, and moderate Islamic concepts. After analyze using the gatekeeping Analysis, this research found that Republika s policy for the religio-politics issues have vision of moderat Islamic model that generally careful but will be serious and sensasional if when dealing with syariah policy issues. Last, Republika have a limited political tolerance policy that have tendency to be exclusive and difficult to accommodate the aspiration of non-Muslim peoples.   The final conclusion for this research is that Republika have an editorial policy that creates public space for Indonesian Muslim that has vision of Islamic moderate and limited political tolerance.
