Abstract

Tomatoes are an agricultural commodity that will experience an increase in respiration rate and ethylene production after harvesting. Ethylene in fruits will accelerate ripening, resulting in a shorter shelf life for the fruit. Chitosan-beeswax and NP-ZnO can retain the soluble solids of the fruit, inhibit respiration, and exhibit antibacterial properties, making them suitable as a coating material. This study aims to investigate the effect of chitosan-beeswax coating with the addition of ZnO nanoparticles on the quality changes of tomato fruits during storage. Coating tomato fruits with the spray method using 3% chitosan-beeswax and 3% NP-ZnO addition resulted in a weight loss value of 4.98% on the 10th day, while the control group had the highest weight loss value at 8.57%. The hardness of the control tomato fruits had the highest value at 7.72 N, whereas the 3% chitosan-beeswax treatment with 3% NP-ZnO addition exhibited a hardness of 9.64 N on the 10th day of storage. The research findings indicate that the addition of chitosan-beeswax and NP-ZnO can maintain the hardness and reduce weight loss in tomato fruits. Key Words: Coating, Chitosan, Beeswax, NP-ZnO, Storage

Abstract

Pakcoy (B. rapa L.) is a plant originating from Tiongkok (China) and East Asia. In improving the quality of pakcoy plants it is necessary to conduct studies to increase the productivity of pakcoy plants namely by using exposure to an electric field. This study aims to determine the effect of electric field exposure on pakcoy germination. The electric field used is an electric field with a frequency of 1.0 kHz. Variations in the magnitude of the electric field used are 1.15, 1.38 and 1.62 kV/m. The results showed that exposure to the electric field on the pakcoy plants produced better pakcoy sprouts than the control. Treatment of exposure to an electric field of 1.62 kV/m resulted in the most optimum germination power, germination rate, average germination time and vigor index with respective values (100) %, (5.14) %/etmal, (0.88) Day and (100) %. Increased germination, germination rate, average germination time and vigor index are expected to increase pakcoy production. Keywords: Electric Field, Pakcoy Seed, Growth

Abstract

Sweet corn is a food crop that ranks third after wheat and rice. Corn production has decreased significantly while demand is quite high. Therefore, in this paper the author wants to examine the effect of providing chicken manure compost and eucalyptus waste on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt). The experimental design used was the Factorial RAK which consisted of two factors, namely chicken manure and eucalyptus waste compost. The results showed that the dose of chicken manure of 20 tons/ha given the best results in the vegetative phase of plant height (191.11 cm), generative phase 20 tons/ha gave the best results with cob weight without husks (214.10 grams). In the other generative phases, a dose of 15 tons/ha of chicken manure gave the best results on cob length without husk (30.02 cm). There was an interaction between chicken manure compost and eucalyptus waste. Key Words:  chicken manure, eucalyptus, fertilizer, sweet corn, waste compost.

Abstract

Anthracnose and bacterial wet rot are types of red chili diseases that are often found during the storage process. This research aims to determine the impact of storage disease in large red chilies on the income of traders in Alor Regency. The sample consisted of 20 trader respondents to obtain data on traders' income, and 1/2 kg of large red chilies per trader, then taken to the laboratory to observe and calculate the incidence, as well as the severity of the storage disease. Data was obtained through direct observation and interviews. Data analysis used simple regression analysis with the SPSS version 22 application. The results of the research found two types of disease in large red chili fruit storage, namely anthracnose and wet rot bacteria which were classified in the high and susceptible disease category with an average disease incidence of 15.54%-39 .84% and disease severity reached 66.36%-95.17%. Regression analysis shows that wet rot bacteria have a negative and significant effect on traders' income, where if there is an increase in disease severity of 1%, traders' income will decrease by 2.55% or Rp. 198,121.61.Keywords: Anthracnose, Bacterial Wet Rot, Chili Traders, Income

Abstract

The application of rabbit urine on peanut plants has never been investigated. This research aimed to study the interaction of concentration and interval time of rabbit urine application towards peanut plants’ yield (Arachis hypogaea L. var. tala 1). This research was carried out using RCBD with two factors and three replications. The first factor is the concentration of rabbit urine 0, 20, and 40 ml/l respectively; while the second factor is the interval time of application, namely once every 4, 7, and 10 days. Results showed that both factors did not give significant effect for all observed parameters. Rabbit urine concentration was very low and did not fulfill the nutrient needs until they did not have any effect on the yield of peanut plants. In general, the treatments in this research did not have a significant effect on the yield of peanut plants.Key Words: peanut, Arachis hypogaea L. var. tala 1, rabbit urine

Abstract

This research was conducted in Kupang Regency and Kupang City by interviewing 23 farmers, four collectors, two processors, and one supporting agency with the aim of analyzing the marketing aspect of honey from Amfoang using a value chain approach. The results showed, marketing chain of forest honey was relatively long and involved many actors, which resulted in low share received by farmers (13.79%). Meanwhile, the largest profit margins were among the retailer in NTT and retailers outside NTT at 33.8% and 36%, respectively. It is suggested that there is a need to increase the honey quality by empowering forest honey business actors, especially upstream players and shortening the marketing channels by optimizing marketing models based on digital technology. Key Words: Marketing analysis, honey, Amfoang, value chain approach

Abstract

Rabies, caused by the rabies virus, is a zoonotic infection with a potentially deadly consequence. Both humans and animals are susceptible to this neurotropic virus. The rabies virus is typically present in infected animals' saliva and cerebral tissue, primarily canines, and transmits via bite wounds. Dogs are responsible for most human rabies transmissions, accounting for up to 99% of cases and consequently serving as the predominant contributor to human rabies mortality. This global threat kills approximately 59,000 people a year, with a death rate of nearly 100% in humans and animals. Fever, vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy are some of the non-specific early signs of rabies. Within days, symptoms escalate to deviant behaviour, brain dysfunction, paralysis, convulsions, hypersalivation, respiratory distress, and impaired swallowing. According to its immunological response, it proves that RABV can evade the initial immune defence. Hence, investigating the pathogenesis of RABV infection presents an intriguing study area. Key Words: Rabies, rabies virus, RABV, canine rabies, dog, pathogenesis, immunopathogenesis
