Abstract

Mut'ah marriage, as a temporary married, was once permitted by the Prophet in the context of war. In the latter period of his apostolacy, the Prophet Muhammad prohibited it. Both the permission and prohibition of this mut' ah marriage are to be found within the realm of the hadith, and differences of opinion about their validity may arise. Meanwhile there is no verse in the al-Qur'an that specifically refers to this concept of mut'ah marriage. Nevertheless the majority of commentators touch on the issue of mut'eh marriage when faced with QS. al-Nisa (4): 24. Through this paper, the Prophet attempts to expose the opinions of a number of commentators on these verses concerning mut'ah marriage. Most commentators view it as something forbidden, in accordance with the prohibition made by the Prophet late in his life.

Abstract

Abstract

This article will discuss the thoughts of Muhammad Syahrur  on the hijab. For Muhammad Syahrur, the  veil is a matter of shame and embarrassment in custom, not a question of halal and haram. In his view, women should dress in accordance with the conditions, situations and local customs, so heavoided considering interference from either natural or social factors. This view is certainly different from that of the majority of commentators (mufassir) who think the veil is part of God’s commands associated with the issues of halal and haram. This study offers the thought of Muhammad Syahrur as an alternative in relation to the concept of the veil in the context of Indonesian society.

All households desire a happy life in this world and the next. This is built through commitments, agreed<p >between the partners to achieve physical and spiritual happiness based on traditions and Islamic teachings. Many challenges present themselves during the process and many become sources of conflict: economic disparity, differences of opinion, cheating on one’s partner, all cause domestic violence; this leads to the destruction of the commitments founded in happiness. These are all prevalent in the cases of domestic violence subject to this research: in the Merangin, Batanghari and Kota Jambi Regencies. This, in the face of Islam’s strict rules against violence, especially to women. Women have the same rights and obligations with men and should receive strong legal protect from the law, whether the central or local governments.

Abstract

Abstract

Menstrual taboo has been historically conceptualizedby most societies as a curse for women. Such concept of menstruation deteriorates the social position and status of women in community. This article aims to discuss how Islam deals with the menstrual taboo. This is important, because all the ideas permeates by the menstrual taboo influence they way people deal with their women through the development of frame of thought, value system as well as behavioral system. Islam states that the misogynist myth of menstrual taboo and negative view toward menstruating women is contradictory to Islamic values which respect the equality of men and women before God. Unlike the doctrines believed in other religions which say that menstruation is a symbolic curse for women because of mother Eve's mistake, Islam considers it is a natural function decreed by God to maintain the life of human race.

Abstract

Marriage for some people is a sacred thing: it is a part of the important forms of worship of God. The sacredness, nevertheless, to some extent disappears when the marriage mainly becomes a trap that concludes with prostitution and slavery. This article examines mail-order bride as a form of human  trafficking. Women in this kind of trafficking are primarily trafficked for prostitution industries. The mail, order bride arrangements occur in Indonesia and, also, in many countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, and Malaysia. This form of trafficking is more difficult to deal with because of its hidden schema: marriage is commonly considered an individual privacy wherein outsiders cannot easily interfere.
