Abstract

This study aims to determine how the students' creativity in solving math problems in class X if given the problems that are non-routine. This type of research is using qualitative approach. Subjects in this study were selected three students of 22 male students of class X is based on tests of mathematical ability. Data is collected in the form of two different time solving tests and interviews. Data were analyzed using three steps, namely data reduction, the data display and conclusion drawing. Based on data analysis, found that the learning model creative problem solving can improve students' creativity in the form of an increase in problem-solving ideas are included in the components of fluency. In addition, given the increased student solutions differ from other research subjects are included in the components of originality. However, for component flexibility, only able to provide a variety of different ways to solve the problem, although it has not achieved until the end of the settlement proper.

Abstract

Reflective thinking in solving mathematical problems allows students to carry out a reinterpretation process in which cognitive activity involves analytical and decision-making activities on what has been done before. Thus students can realize and think about what he has done and use these skills in subsequent problem-solving. The purpose of this study was to identify the depth of reflective thinking of prospective teachers in solving mathematical problems in terms of differences in cognitive styles. To identify the depth of reflective thinking in problem-solving, using the taxonomic level of reflective thinking consists of six levels, namely (1) remembering, (2) understanding, (3) applying, (4) analyzing, (5) evaluating and (6) creating. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach involving two prospective mathematics teacher students who have a field-dependent cognitive style (SFD) and an independent field (SFI). The results showed that SFD could only reach at three levels, namely remembering, understanding, and applying. While SFI fulfilled the six characteristics of the taxonomic level of reflective thinking, namely remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

Abstract

The ability of the mathematical representation is the ability to create a model of a problem into a new form of verbal, text, tables, or graphs. The research is a qualitative descriptive study aimed to systematically describe the capabilities of mathematical representation. Data collection techniques in this study conducted using tests such as about the description, the test is given to students of class IX in one of the Junior High School in the city of Cimahi with 37 students. The results showed that the ability of the mathematical representation of students on the material for the indicator congruence and similarity of words or text are at less qualification with the percentage of students' average score of 43%. Indicators visual representation including sufficient qualification with the percentage of students' average score of 60%. On the indicator equations or mathematical expressions including the qualification is very less with the average percentage score of 34.75%. Difficulties faced by students predominantly found in Question 2b, 4b with the kind of test containing indicator words or text and Question 4c with indicators equations or mathematical expressions.

Abstract

This research aims at (1)producing a valid and practical LKS (Student Worksheet) in discovery learning model in two circles intersection material in class XI, and (2) to find out the potential effect toward the learning outcomes from the development of LKS with discovery learning model in two circles intersections material in class XI MIA. The design ofthis research is a developmental study. The subjects of this research were 33 students of XI MIA 1 SMA N 1 Indralaya in academic year 2015/2016. The data collecting technique used were observation, test, and interview. The result of the researches were : (1) This research produced a valid and practical LKS with discovery learning model in two circles intersections material in class XI MIA withsome characteristics such as, (a) Contain the operational steps of discovery learning model, (b) Help students in finding the concept of two circles intersections model. (c) Make students active in learning. Being valid can be seen from the results of validator assessment, where the validator comments on the first prototype of LKS from content, construct, and language. Being practical can be seen from the results of  small group try out, in which it was based on analysis of the answer sheets of students, it was found that students were able to complete each steps there and students’ comments obtained from the sheets that stated the LKS given was easy to be done by students. (2) The developed LKS consisted of potential effect toward the learning outcomes from cognitive (knowledge), affective (attitude), and psychomotor (skill). In the cognitive domain 81.81% of students got score 65, in the affective domain all of the students had shown an attitude of honesty and responsiveness shown by observations during LKS usage, as well as in the of psychomotor domain skills all of students had good skill that seen from the result of students performance.

Abstract

Learning communities have a positive impact on the development of the pedagogical competence of prospective mathematics teacher students. However, the nature of competition between students is more dominant in universities. This study aims to develop a valid and practical lesson study for learning community-based learning environments to improve the pedagogical competence of student mathematics teacher candidates. This study used the Rowntree model development research design and Tessmer's formative evaluation model, including self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, and small group evaluation. Data collection techniques used walkthrough, observation, documentation, questionnaires, interviews, and tests. The results showed that the learning environment based on the lesson study for the learning community that was developed had met valid and practical criteria and had a potential effect in improving the pedagogical abilities of student mathematics teacher candidates. Based on data analysis, the pedagogical competence of most of the students was good, with details: 94.16% of students had the competence to prepare a good lesson plan. The competence to carry out learning activities well has been mastered by 91.66% of students. Meanwhile, the understanding of the lesson study for the learning community has reached 82.5%. These results indicate that the learning community among fellow students as a lesson study for learning a community-based learning environment can improve the pedagogical competence of student mathematics teacher candidates.

Abstract

This research was conducted to know the activity, learning result, and student's response to learning using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on multiplication counting material. This research is a Classroom Action Research which carried out three cycles. The subjects were 33 fourth grade students of SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh. Data collection was done by using formative test of student learning result, student activity observation sheet, and student response questionnaire. The results showed that the expected student activity in the learning process was improved by using RME approach on multiplication counting material in class IV SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh. There are 40% of active student activity, the second cycle is 80% active student activity, and in 100% cycle 100% active student activity. Furthermore there is also an increase in the ability of student counting operations multiplication in each cycle. The cycle-I is 33.3% complete, the II-cycle is 63.6% complete, and the III-cycle is 96.97% complete. Student response is also very positive on the learning by using PMR approach on the material of multiplication operation in class IV SD Negeri 46 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Integral calculus is a course where students tend to have difficulties in problem-solving. This study examines differences in mathematical beliefs in students' problem-solving skills based on mathematics prior knowledge. This study's subjects were 120 students of the Mathematics Education study program from UPH Faculty of Education. The independent variable is mathematical beliefs, the moderator variable is prior mathematics knowledge, and the dependent variable is students' problem-solving skills. This study is an ex post facto quantitative research with instruments in a Likert scale questionnaire for mathematical beliefs, problem-solving, and mathematics prior knowledge test scores. Hypotheses were tested statistically with a two-way Anova test using SPSS 16.0. The results of the study were: (1) students' problem-solving of logical consistency beliefs is higher than memorized and procedural beliefs, (2) there is an interaction between mathematical beliefs and mathematics prior knowledge on problem-solving, (3) students' problem-solving in high mathematics prior knowledge group of logical consistency beliefs is higher than memorized, and procedural beliefs, and (4) students' problem-solving in low mathematics prior knowledge group of logical consistency beliefs is lower than memorized and procedural beliefs.
