Abstract

According to several researchs, there are severalcoastal areas in Indonesia has contaminated withheavy metals, example lead. Lead contamination inwater can be found in the waters, bays, coastal, marine and rivers. Several reports found variety ofareas that had been contaminated with lead orplumbum (Pb) which exceeded the threshold valuewas allowed, even the impact of pollution. Forexample, lead pollutions in the Jakarta Bay (Fitriany, 2004; Sarjono, 2009; Rochyatun, 2003),the coastal of Riau (Nasution, 2011), Badung River(Bogoriani, 2006), coastal Borneo (Hartono, et all2011), Bali beaches (Nelyazar, 2007), and thecoastal of Makassar (Habrianti, 2013). In Papua,Youtefa bay in Jayapura is recorded as costal areasthat already contaminated Lead, and gulf youtefacan not be separated from the problem of heavymetal pollution because a part of ragtag Jayapura, the estuary into the gulf Yotefa. In 2004 (Arobaya& Pattiselano, 2010) a survey Bapedalda Jayapuraon water quality parameter Youtefa polluted sea ingulf of Pb has reached 0.03 mg/l. Based on theresearchresults Manalu in 2012, found that anindex ofpollution in the waters of the gulf of storetYoutefa based index (a value of raw data about thequality of the water which is then transformed intoan index ) are in moderate and severe polluted(Manalu, 2012).This study aims to analyze how much health risksthat caused by lead exposure in shells which mayeffect human health or community that stayaround this site. In addition, this researches isobservational research with risk analysisi or HazardQuotient. Samples have been collected throughpurposive sampling method.

Abstract

Numbers of diseases such as stroke, diabetes, gout, and even cancer are caused by the reaction of freeradicals (oxidants) found in the body. Those diseasescurrently have not yet controlled. Deleteriouslifestyle, lack of exercise, or genetics can be thetrigger to this oxidant. Based on Chemotaxonomic, drugs that have been used to inhibit the oxidationprocess or termination stage of free radicals containthe active ingredient in the form of secondarymetabolites of alkaloids, phenolics, terpenoids andsteroids. For example, phenolic compounds such asflavonoids, xanthones, antioxidants and polyphenolsis a good agent because it has a structure with a highdegree of oxidation (Suares, et al, 2010).Researches related to the exploration of antioxidantactive ingredient has been more focused onsecondary metabolites found in terrestrial plants. The development of natural compounds potential ofmarine plant material such as mangrove are still notreceived much attention. Spalding et al. in 2001explained that mangroves plant in Indonesia is thehighest in the world, both in terms of quantity area(± 42 550 km2) as well as the number of species (±45 species). This basic natural resource of Indonesiamangrove is certainly valuable promisingopportunities to be expanded as a biological drug.Mangroves plant that commonly used as medicinediscovered from various species i.e: Acanthusilicifolius, Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina,Avicennia offinalis, Bruguiera cylindrical, Bruguieraexaristata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal,Hisbiscus tiliaceus, Ipomoea pes-capre, Lumnitzeraracemosa, Nypa fructicans, Pluchea indicaRhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata andSonneratia alba. Those plants are usually utilized asantiasma, antidiuretic, antidiabetic, reliever itching, and others. (Purnobasuki, 2004).The potential of mangroves as a drug is veryimportant to be developed considering the need fordrugs is increasing deals with the growing ofpopulation and many kinds of diseases such ascancer, hypertension, tumor diseases and diseasescaused by chemical or biological waste pollutionfrom viruses and bacteria. People are more likely tochoose drugs that are natural because relatively takefew side effects or even none at all.Several studies of mangrove plants from genusRhizophora that have antioxidant bioactivity areshown in the crude butanol extract of mangrove R.apiculata with IC50 33.34 pg / mL (Gao, 2012). Themethanol extract of R. mangle’s stem were alsodocumented to have antioxidant activity (Palacio, etal, 2014).One of mangroves found in Surabaya East Coastal(Pamurbaya), East Java, Indonesia is the mangroveRhizophora mucronata. This mangrove species isindigenous mangroves that ethno-botanicallypopular used as a pain reliever and dyes naturalwood. Secondary metabolites contained in theleaves, bark, stems, roots, and fruit are different inquantity. The content of secondary metabolites inplant commonly used as a medicine is from generalpart of the bark. Therefore, on the basis ofchemotaxonomic and ethno-botany of mangroves R.mucronata, this study aims to explore the bioactivityof antioxidant from the stem bark of R. mucronata.

Abstract

As one of countries with high cigarettesconsumptions in the world (Eriksen et al., 2012;Lian and Dorothea, 2014), many people inIndonesia have suffered from various diseasescaused by smoking behavior (Lian & Dorothea,2014; WHO, 2012). However, the prevalence ofsmoking among people 15 years old and abovewere remains high (34.8%) (WHO, 2012).Many Indonesian adolescents had difficulties tofind facilities which could help them to quitsmoking (Aditama et al., 2008). Thus, who werewilling to quit smoking common use self helpmethods (Ng et al., 2007). The appropriate strategyon smoking cessation program was very importantto prevent smoker adolescents entered intonicotine dependencies (Karpinsky et al., 2010)Malang District was a district which was includedinto top ten Districts in Indonesia which had highproportions of daily smoker age 10 years old andabove (27.6 %) (Balitbangkes, 2008). Lackimplementation of the government regulationmight have correlation with high percentage ofsmoker among youth within Malang District.(Health Department of Malang District, 2015). Thisstudy aims to explore smoking behavior and thetriggers of smoking between middle and lateadolescents in a Sub – District of Malang District,East Java - Indonesia.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolicdiseases characterized by hyperglycemia. It occursbecause abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulinaction, or both (Gustaviani, 2006). Diabetestreatment is generally done through regular insulininjections and delivery of oral antidiabetic drug suchas sulfonylurea class, biguanide, thiazolidinedion andmeglitinida which have some side effects likeheadache, dizziness, nausea, anorexia andpermanent organ damage. More over, they are alsoexpensive. People start taking treatment intraditional way natural materials, such as antlion(Myrmeleon sp.,) to lower blood glucose level (Lee etal., 2007).Previous research showed that the young antlionmethanolic extract of had the highest inhibitoryactivity toward α-glucosidase enzyme, was 22.81%(Faiz, 2008). Giving combination of Antlion andbananas for 14 days could decrease blood glucoselevels at a dose of 0,01ml / 200g (Tyas 2006).This study has examined the antidiabetic effects ofthe powder and ethanolic extract of antlion(Myrmeleon sp.) on blood glucose level of Wistarmale rats were burdened by glucose.

Abstract

Asthma is an inflammatory chronic process involvingrespiratory tract wall and cause limited airflow withincreased of respiratory tract reactivity. It is arespiratory disease that is more common in children.Definition of asthma from Global Initiative Asthma(GINA), asthma is a heterogeneous disease, usuallymarked by chronic inflammation respiratory tract.Asthma causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and cough thatvary over time, in their occurrence, frequency andintensity (GINA, 2016). International Consensus on(ICON) Pediatric Asthma, asthma is a chronicinflammation disorder which correlate withrespiratory tract obstruction that clinicalmanifestation wheezing, cough and shortness ofbreath (Rahajoe et al, 2015). Estimate prevalence ofasthma in the world is 7.2% (6% adults and 10%children) (Rahajoe, 2015).The pathogenesis, immunopathology, genetic, clinical manifestation, diagnosis and therapy forasthma had much progress. Therefore, it’s can’t besure which one comes first because the complexityof both factor (Rahajoe, 2015). In many case, especially children and young adult, asthma iscorrelated with manifestation of atopy in Ig-Edependentmechanism (Rahajoe, 2013). There wasno different of asthma mechanism in pediatric andadult. Although there was some problem in asthmapediatric there was not found in adult because of thepathology, lack of good scientific evidence, difficulties in determining of diagnosis and therapyand also variation of remodeling response of therapythat could not predicted before. This conditionespecially for children under five year old (Rahajoe,2015).In population, atopy factor give contribute 40%asthma patient pediatrics and adult. Atopy, thegenetic predisposition for the development of anImmunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated response tocommon aeroallergens, is the strongest identifiablepredisposing factor for developing asthma (Rahajoe,2013). Asthma has an inheritable component to itsexpression, but the genetics involved in the eventualdevelopment of asthma (Ober, 2005). The role ofgenetics in IgE production, airwayhyperresponsiveness, and dysfunctional regulationof the generation of inflammatory mediators hasappropriately captured much attention. Asthma is aneffect from histamine in bronchial muscle. Histaminerelease together with IgE which mediated mast celldegranulation and make quickly contriction andbronchioles muscle spasm (Boyce, 2003). Ig Eattaches to cell surfaces via a specific high-affinityreceptor. The mast cell has large numbers of IgEreceptors; these, when activated by interaction withantigen, release a wide variety of mediators to iniateacute bronchospasm and also to release proinflammatorycytokines to perpetuade underlyingairway inflammation (Sporik, et al. 1995). Inlaboratory findings, pediatric patients with asthmashow increased IgE serum levels compared tonormal individuals without asthma. Ig E serum levelis specific for allergic status. It is useful to identifiedrisk factor or triggers of asthma. That is Ig Eresponsible for allergic attack (Rahajoe, 2013).However, lack of evidence of the associationbetween IgE serum levels and severity of asthma inchildren. This study aims to determine theassociation between IgE serum levels and severity ofasthma in children.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the tax reform in terms of income tax in Indonesia and Singapore, using Luder’s Contingency Model to determine the stimuli, providers and users of information, and implementation barriers. This study uses literatures which analyzed into Luder’s Contingency Model. We use secondary data obtained from web-based information on government financial institutions in both countries. The research suggests that there are differences between Indonesia and Singapore in tax reform in terms of income tax comprise change stimuli, implementation barriers and user or interested parties who support tax reform. Luder’s Contingency Model suggest that tax reform can succeed if given enough stimulus and minimize barriers to the implementation of tax reform. Tax revenue, tax ratio, investment climate and low level of public’s trust contribute to Indonesia’s tax reform. On the contrary, tax reform in Singapore is triggered by economic recession, willingness to increase the engagement of foreign investors and workload of tax authorities.
