Abstract

This research aims to optimize natural lighting in the Alauddin Makassar State Islamic University Library building by enhancing the distribution of natural light. The study employs a quantitative method involving direct measurement of natural lighting using a lux meter on-site and the dissemination of questionnaires among library visitors. Field measurement data is processed using MS Office Excel to assess the lighting conditions. Additionally, the application of Autodesk Ecotect with the Desktop Radiance plugin is utilized to simulate field measurement outcomes. To optimize natural lighting, simulations are conducted using six different models of light shelves. The simulation results indicate that employing a light shelf positioned centrally with an external angled surface proves most effective in maximizing natural light entry into the building. On the second floor, a centrally positioned light shelf with a 15° angle on each outer window opening yields the highest R2 value of 0.94. Meanwhile, on the third floor, using a centrally positioned light shelf with a 30° angle on the north side and 15° on the south side of the window achieves the highest R2 value of 0.85.

Abstract

In Indonesia, retirement is understood as the period when workers stop working after working for a certain period of time. They experiencing a transition phase of their life as they are doing different daily routine from the productive phase before. They are experiencing changes physically and mentally. There are urgency to make good quality environment for retired elderly in their living space. House is a good choice for elderly to be aging in place as they have sense of belonging on it. Because of that, house needs to be redesigned based on how the changes experienced by the elderlies. Here, the study will evaluate a house as in Gresik as a case study for retired elderly and give design strategy proposal to make it elderly-friendly. The method used here are descriptive method which strategies are literature review, observation and interview, problem analysis, and looking forward proposal. The main problem of the house is no adequate ventilation inside, slippery floor covering, and no outdoor space to allow elderly for being active. The strategy proposed are making outdoor space at the back as laundry area and garden, make stack-effect ventilation, and change the floor covering with anti-slip and low-pile carpet material. The existence of a garden will support the positive feelings of parents and other residents.

Abstract

Abstract

During an art and architecture exhibition, the gallery building becomes a crowded space where the interior quality can influence visitors visual comfort. High density caused by an unstructured layout can lead to a low quality visibility. Galeri Nusantara was used as a case study in this research by focusing on visibility optimization using a space syntax approach with Depthmap application. The analysis was carried out based on the VGA (visibility graph analysis) map on the visual integration [HH] parameter. Modeling was made in several layouts that were possible to implement. The results show that the distribution of the highest and lowest visibility levels for each layout is relatively similar. Small differences occur when there is a change from pustek to panel board arrangement. The quality of visibility is reflected in the visibility area coverage and the R2 value which describes the relationship between connectivity and visual integration. The VGA map shows that the use of pustek provides optimal visibility as indicated by the high R2 value. The low R2 values are more common in panel board arrangements because there are areas with low visibility within a fairly wide coverage area. It results in overall low R2 value in the gallery.

Abstract

This study aims to delve deeper into the concept of utility (function) based on Vitruvius's trilogy in architecture. The research employs a literature review, focusing on the perspectives of experts, architects, and findings from scholarly articles discussing or mentioning the concept of utility (function) in architecture. These insights are then synthesized to gain a more profound understanding of the concept of utility in architecture. The literature review draws from relevant books and scholarly articles aligned with the study's focus. The study's results indicate that the concept of utility or function in architecture extends beyond mere physical or material dimensions, as outlined by Vitruvius. Utility is the result of the interaction between the environment and human needs. In the concept of function, two critical aspects need to be understood: internal aspects encompassing physical, psychological, structural, and activity-related functions, and external aspects covering economic, aesthetic, cultural, social, expressive, and historical functions. Both aspects focus on enhancing the quality of life. Function in architecture not only influences the quality of life but also connects essential elements to create architectural works considered ideal from a human perspective. There is an intrinsic relationship between utility, venustas, and firmitas that shapes the essence of architectural utility or function itself.

Abstract

The source of the noise level at the train station in several interior spaces including the VIP room, hall, office, market, and loco café by measuring in the field and carried out on September 15, 2023, at 12.33 WIB. The noise standard level based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 48 of 1996 that the train station is 60 decibels. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of noise. The method used is a quantitative method by taking in the field and comparing the calibrated Sound Level Meter and Sound Meter Application within 3 minutes from the arrival of the train until the train departs. The results of the noise level of the five interiors of Semarang Poncol Station show that the noise level is greatest in the hall of Poncol station because the room is semi-open to make the sound that enters the room is very disturbed, and the noise level of the five rooms above the standard limit of the noise level. So it can be concluded that the room at Poncol Station experiences more noise than it should. The noise in the interior area of the station can exceed the specified comfort limit because of the different sound sources.

Abstract

The existence of Javanese architecture is an architectural figure that is present in Javanese cultured society, and from generation to generation and has meaning both symbolically and architecturally. Javanese architecture is not just a building, but a physical form that has symbols, architectural details that contain interpretations of meaning in them. The issue of this research arises in relation to Javanese architecture in Ponorogo, namely the Joglo Bucu architecture (a type of Javanese house in Ponorogo) which has different height proportions from Joglo in general and has transformed into a more modern one in terms of materials, namely on the side (wall) enclosures. . This research aims to understand that architecture is a relationship between form, function and meaning, starting from the top (roof), side (walls) and bottom (floor). This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method which is more about interpreting the meaning of the Joglo Bucu architectural space in Ponorogo with its architectural elements, namely Griya Ngajeng, Griya Wingking, Pawon. The results of this research are that the Interpretation of the Meaning of the Joglo Bucu Architectural Space in Ponorogo is that it can show a house with upper middle social status, because it has a wingking house and a ngajeng house. Joglo Bucu also has a pawon which only has functional meaning. It can be developed in further research that Ponorogo traditional houses have differences, namely the structure and typology of each region.

Abstract

The drawing studio is a space where students complete core architectural design courses in the architecture department. The studio is a space for carrying out various activities such as discussions with fellow participants and lecturers, making programs and plans, conducting precedent studies, presenting images, looking for ideas, and making designs. This research aims to identify students' personal space in the drawing studio room of the architecture department at Hasanuddin University and its influence on study concentration. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. A purposive sampling strategy was used to collect data through questionnaires and interviews. Descriptive analysis method to analyze data regarding students' personal space in learning. There were 64 people in the research sample, namely 30 people from the 2019 class and 34 people from the 2018 class. The research results show that students' personal space is divided into 4 distance groups: intimate distance, personal distance, social distance, and public distance. Situational factors, individual activities, personality, gender, and age are things that influence personal space. Personal space has an influence on concentration in studying in the drawing studio room. The close proxemic distance makes it more difficult for students to carry out activities so concentration decreases, while the longer proxemic distance makes students more free to carry out activities and can concentrate better. Distance between individuals is one of the variables that influences learning comfort.

Abstract

Banyan Tree Escape is located in Payangan Gianyar Bali and has a unique design concept "no wall, no door" which is rarely found in other hospitality properties. This hospitality accommodation is designed to establish a harmonious relationship between the owner and guests and re-establish the relationship between humans and the natural environment, resulting in friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. The hospitality industry requires the presence of nature, repeated and continuous engagement with nature is very important, creating an atmosphere of relaxation that can reduce stress and provide a new sense of healthy wellness. Incorporating nature and culture into property design in the hospitality industry also aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. This research aims to examine concepts that can be applied to achieve a connection with nature and sustainability goals in hospitality design. The descriptive qualitative method of case study is used in this research, guided by the concept of Reconnecting with Nature for Sustainability, followed by Biodiversity Inclusive Design analysis, Nature Climate analysis, and Vernacular Lifestyle analysis. The results show that the concept of the Biodiversity Inclusive Design approach is carried out by maintaining the condition of biodiversity, imitating the characteristics of the original/local habitat (the original habitat of Buahan Village), and the application of biophilic architecture. The concept of natural climate is applied with a combination of tropical architecture and local architecture. The Vernacular Lifestyle concept is carried out by adopting the cultural context and traditional Balinese architecture in responding to routine and boredom into relaxation.

Abstract

The presence of traditional Acehnese houses, known as rumoh Aceh, is becoming increasingly scarce, particularly those that are still used as community residences. Currently, rumoh Aceh can be classified into three categories: those that are still inhabited, those that are abandoned, and replicas. Replicas of rumoh Aceh can be found as venues for cultural activities during certain times or used as museums. This research examines the use of rumoh Aceh as residences, as well as those that are no longer inhabited and replicas that are used as museums. The study aims to ensure the originality of rumoh Aceh by observing its structural elements. It is important to note that in the future, rumoh Aceh may only be found as replicas. The aim is to observe the quality of the replicated object compared to the non-replicated Aceh rumoh object. The survey method and visual documentation were used to observe these elements based on the literature. The study compared the structural elements of non-replica houses with those of replica houses. It was discovered that the replica of rumoh Aceh, specifically rumoh Cut Nyak Meutia, lacked some essential structural elements. This finding is significant, particularly in the context of preserving the values and completeness of cultural artifacts for replication efforts.
