The purpose of this research is to give a description about translating English sentence into Indonesian and arranging the phrase, clause or sentence structures by the students that may result a number of problems in their translations. The study is done by taking 20 students? translations of several sentences from one of the textbook of Civil Engineering in which the writers find that the students make many mistakes. These translations are analyzed and described by using a certain method of analysis. In this analysis the writers describe two linguistic aspects; lexical and grammatical aspects. The writers also describe the factors affected the students when making many errors in their translations. The study reveals that the students? way of translating the sentences result in a number of problems such as some mistakes/deviations in the selection of parable words in bahasa Indonesia, the arrangement of phrase and clause structure that affecting the translation of grammatical structure, the way of the students translate that is very literal, the lack of vocabulary, the lack translating experience and the lack translating theory and application.

The objective of this research were to find out the effectiveness of computer games in teaching vocabulary and to find out the students respons in teaching vocabulary using computer games. This research used total sampling where all of population as sample, there were 30 students.This research used vocabulary test as instrument. In collecting data, this research used some procedures namely pre test, treatment, post test and interview. In pre test and post test used vocabulary test. In pre test the students got score in poor classification namely 63,33 % and 36,66 % got fairly poor and mean score 3,0 (poor). This is implies that the students had low vocabulary. In post test, the students got score in very good classification namely 43,33 %, 30 % got good, and 26,66 % got fairly good and mean score 8,2 (good). This is implies that the students got increasing in vocabulary after treatment. In interview, all of the students gave positive respons of using computer games. Based on the findings and discussion of the study, the writer concludes that the computer games is effective method in teaching vocabulary to the students at SDN 255 Mancani

Vocabulary is very fundamental aspect in language learning. Even, it becomes a key to master a language. The younger people learn the language, the faster they will master it. There are so many materials and media to gain vocabulary. One of them is by reading short story. In fact, it has many advantages when it applies as the media in language learning. This article conveys a study about how the use of short story to foster students vocabulary mastery in reading and how significant of short story as the media in language learning. This study uses the model of action research which involves thirty-eight students of MTsN 2 Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara as the subject of the research. It consists of three cycles, and each cycle has 4 meetings. The data are populated from tests (pre-test and post-tests). As the result, the use of short stories is able to increase the students psychological aspect and the classroom climate. The students are become more excited, enthusiastic, and active in the learning process. This then makes the classroom climate more alive, and it is finally able to foster their ability in vocabulary mastery in reading. Moreover, this study shows the significant improvement of the students vocabulary mastery. At the end of the cycle, the students have met at least the minimum score of 7.00 standard of minimum completeness in the four areas of spelling, pronunciation, meaning, and the use of the words.

The objectives of this research were: (1) to find out te use of jigsaw technique significantly to improve students vocabulary of the second semester students at English department students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University (2) to find out te use of mind mapping technique significantly to improve students vocabulary of the second semester students at English department students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University (3) to find out which is technique and improve students vocabulary cooperative learning jigsaw technique and mind mapping technique. This research employed true experimental design. The population of this research was the second semester students of English department of Cokroaminoto University Palopo in academic year 2013/2014. The sample of this research was the second semester students in academic year 2013/2014 where consisted of 80 students. This research used cluster random sampling technique. The research data were collected by using two kinds of instrument namely: vocabulary test for the students. Data on the students vocabulary skills were analyzed by using idependent t-test. The results of the research were: (1) jigsaw technique can improve vocabulary of the students of English department of Cokroaminoto Palopo University, and (2) mind mapping technique can improve vocabulary of the students of English department of Cokroaminoto Palopo University (3) jigsaw technique and mind mapping technique were effective in learning vocabulary. It can be concluded that the jigsaw technique and mind mapping technique in the teaching process is effective to be implemented in improving the students vocabulary.

The objective of the research is to find out the ability of the first year students at SMP Neg. 10 palopo in mastering vocabulary. This research is descriptive research that will be analyzed qualitatively. It describes the ability of the students of SMP Negeri 10 Palopo in mastering vocabulary. The population of this research will be the first year students of SMP Negeri 10 Palopo. Findings of the research in vocabulary test shows that most of students got score in poor classification namely 21 and 7 got fairly poor. This fact implies that most of the student had low ability in vocabulary at SMPN 10 Palopo. Only 1 student got fairly and one got fairly good. No one got good, very good and excellent.

This paper describes about the code switching. In multilingual society, peoples tend to use more than one language or a veriaty when they communicate to each other. They choose certain language to us in particular condition of situations. Code switching can be defined as the employment of more than one code or language in one sentence. In code switching one language may be more dominant than other. It happens when a speaker uses one language mostly than the other in a discourse. The dominant language is termed as "matrix language" while the subdominant one is "embedded language". Thus, for example the speakers of Indonesian-English code switching use Indonesian more than English, then Indonesian is the matrix language (ML) while English is the embedded language (EL).

This research focusing how is the students interests toward the use of Natural Approach. The objective of the research was to find out the students interest toward the use of natural approach in teaching speaking. And scope of the research to explain the students interest toward the use of natural approach through road map in teaching speaking. that focused on giving and explain direction. The researcher used descriptive method. Data was collected by giving questionnaire to the respondent to find out the students interest toward natural approach. The populations of this research were 20 students. In choosing sample, the researcher applied total sampling. The researcher chose class A. The total numbers of sample were 20 students.Based on the findings, show that the students have high interest toward natural approach it prove The percentages in positive statement there were 14 students (70%) were agree. And in negative statement only 8 students (40%) were disagree and disagree. It means the students have positive interest toward the use of natural approach. The factors which make the students interest toward natural approach because did not make students boring and it used authentic material in teaching English particularly speaking. For example brochure, map, visual aid and games it is good method in delivering material

This paper is aimed at describing self concept in English learning. This will explore the concept of self concept and its importance for students in learning English. Self concept is one of way for students to creatively in learning English. As a foreign language, English is not easy to learning by the students at the beginning of the study. For them, English is likely to be one difficulty in learning. The basic skills in English is the ability that requires the process of communicative competence, pronunciation, intonation, grammar and vocabulary improving. For the beginner is difficult to try. Naturally, they feel confused on the rule, like: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. Some of students are afraid to be active in English. This phenomenon makes many students have low scores in English. The lessons must be relaxed and comfortable. So, by their self concept, the students will feel confident, they will not need to try hard to learn language. It will just come naturally and easily.

This thesis is aimed to find out the influence of Arabic sound toward English pronunciation especially English fricatives / f /, / ? /, and / ? /. The problem statement of this research is: Is there influence for people who master reading Quran in mastering English fricatives / f /, / ? /, and / ? / pronounciation in English Departement students of IAIN Palopo?The objective of this research is to find out the influence of person who masters produce Arabic sound based on makhraj huruf in mastering English fricative pronounciation in the third semester of English Departement students of IAIN Palopo. The research used descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was 15 students who master produce Arabic sound based on makhraj huruf. The location was in IAIN Palopo. The instruments of this research were test reading task such as: words list reading task, sentences reading task, and passage reading task. and interview. The result of data analysis showed that if the participants have a good ability in pronuncing in Arabic sound they can pronunce English fricative pronunciation well. It means the people who masters reading Quran based on makhraj huruf can influence to master English pronunciation especially English fricatives / f /, / ? /, and / ? /. Suggestions: 1. To teachers or lecturers who teach pronunciation in IAIN Palopo to suggest to their students to more active reading holy Quran based on makhraj huruf because it can help them for mastering English Pronunciation especially English fricatives /f, ?, and ? /. 2. The researcher suggests for the next research to find out the same sounds in Arabic and English which are not found in this research because it is very helpful for the students to mastering English pronunciation.

One of the focuses of the linguistic world nowadays is language shift phenomenon. Many different approaches dealing with language maintenance and shift can be found in the literature on minority languages. All weight the importance of the various factors influencing language maintenance differently. Their importance differs according to the situation in which a linguistic minority lives. This paper tries to describe some theories on revitalizing the languages which are in endangered situation. Some theories give consideration about how to save the languages.
