Abstract

Based on some research, mind mapping proven effective to use in the class, but the use of mind mapping still rarely used in the class during pandemic. The purpose of this article is 1) to analyze of making mind mapping; 2) to describe the using of mind mapping during this pandemic; and 3) to analyze the impact of using mind mapping in class. This article uses literature study. The validity of this data is by using some study from another research with an extension time. Data comparation is used as data analysis technique in this article. The conclusion in this article are while making mind mapping, requires some laws so that benefit would achieved optimally; using mind mapping with outlines and good instruction about material is a good option during pandemic; using of mind mapping is proven effective to make student easier to know about the material and it will improve their critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Instructional strategies hold an important role in teaching and learning. This study aimed to know the geography teachers’ instructional strategies for effective learning and the problem to achieve it based on gender. The subject of this study was all geography teachers in Surakarta. The collecting data method was using a questionnaire. The result showed that the geography teacher suggested that effective learning in geography could be work when the students were given the information about the objective of the instruction and made them involved in the instructional planning and materials modification, it was also recommended that students had the choices about the task or assignment and that they had open access to update information in various subject. The main problem to applied independent learning was classroom size, time allocated, access to information, and not suitable for dull students.

Abstract

Listening is the skill to understand and identify what the speaker says. In listening, students should sensibly in hearing the information. This paper aims to describe the difficulties in listening in creating subtitling and problems faced in creating subtitle use Aegisub. The population of this research was twenty Indonesian EFL learners studying at an Islamic university in Central Java, Indonesia. The method used in this paper was a qualitative method. In addition, the research data were collected by observation, interview and document analysis. This research found three problems in listening and three problems in using Aegisub. The result shows the difficulties in listening when creating subtitle and problems in using Aegisub as they applied Aegisub.Keywords: Listening, Subtitling, Aegisub

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on the education sector. The learning process must be carried out remotely (Distance Learning), so it requires adjustments both by educators and students to run an effective learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of Distance Learning using LMS Schoology, Youtube, and Google Meets in the Survey and Mapping of Regional Resources Course. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design in which students were given a pretest and posttest.  The pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using Normalized-Gain (N-Gain) to determine the effectiveness of Distance Learning using LMS Schoology, Youtube and Google Meets. The results of the analysis will be categorized as effective if there is an increase score at posttest compared to pretest. The results of this study indicated that Distance Learning using LMS Schoology, Youtube, and Google Meets was effective for the Survey and Mapping of Regional Resources Course with an average gain by 0.19 and an increase of posttest score by 3.56. This Research is expected to provide a perspective on learning strategies during a pandemic.Keywords: COVID-19, Distance Learning, Education, Geography, Learning Strategy

Abstract

The aim of this research is analysis character building values that can be found in English textbook in Senior High School. This is a descriptive qualitative research which takes a document as the method of collecting data. The data of this research are  reading texts  and dialog in English textbook Bahasa Inggris for Grade X Senior High School that represent eighteen character building values that was described by Kemendiknas 2010. The source of data is English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris for grade X Senior High School. This research uses model of data analysis by Miles and Hubberman includes data reduction, data display and drawing data. While to get the validity of data analysis, the research uses multiple theories. The result shows that the book contains eighteen character building that was described by Kemendiknas, and some other characters appear in the selected textbook such as gratitude, humble, confidence, cooperative, respect, healthy life style, courage and optimist.

Abstract

The performance of mathematics teachers to prepare students to be independent and dignified requires commitment from all parties. The performance of mathematics teachers promotes a culture of togetherness and family principles. The research objectives in this article are to describe 1) the conditions of learning mathematics at the research site, 2) double loop learning based mathematics learning, and 3) strategies in preparing independent and dignified students. The type and design of the research in this article is ethnographic qualitative. The research subjects were mathematics teachers, school principals, and students of SMP Negeri 1 Kartasura Sukoharjo even semester 2019/2020. The method of collecting data is observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis techniques with flow models. The results of the study: (1) Learning mathematics in the research place tends to be directed to make students think simple. The condition of learning mathematics in the research place occurs in the paradigm of "teachers explain-learners listen". (2) Mathematics learning based on double loop learning, in the paradigm "active learners construct meaning - the teacher as a facilitator". His mindset changes reflection and action. Management model, through three stages with five provisions. (3) Preparing students to be independent and dignified, based on strong religion, core character (honesty, responsibility, discipline), lifestyle character (hard and simple work), respect for others, and exploring the potential of smart, creative, and innovative, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit.

Abstract

The process of  learning and teaching translation still becomes something difficult for teachers and students in Indonesia. Currently the method used by teachers for teaching translation is still traditional method. So that, students feel bored while learning translation because they get the same instruction every time. Thus, it needs to implement a modern method for teaching translation to engage and motivate students in learning translation. The aim of the research is to find out the effective and appropriate method for teaching translation of senior school students. In addition, researcher also wants to know the effectiveness of Online Media method for teaching translation. The research method is descriptive qualitative. The collecting data was conducted by observing  the students at Senior School during Translation teaching. This action research was the process of learning and community empowerment. Based on the observation, Indonesia teacher tends to use traditional method for teaching translation. Teaching translation by using online media gives something positive to students. Students become more active after learning with on-line media than traditional method.Teaching approach used by the teacher changed from teacher centered to student centered, the lesson materials were more practical given and learned in the Online Media Features class than in the traditional class. The teaching method in translation improved significantly in the Online Media Features class because all were enhanced with interactive web technology. In addition, in the Online Media Features class the students and teacher engaged in active learning and did problem solving together. Keywords: Translation, Translation teaching method, traditional method, Online media method

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to find out how the leadership role of a female school headmaster in rural areas that is in SMAN 1 Ulu Musi, Empat Lawang Regency, Sumatera Selatan Province. This study is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection techniques with in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document study. The informant in this study was the principal of SMA N 1 Ulu Musi. The result of this study found when women become headmaster in senior high school, gender is not an obstacle to undergoing the task of being the highest leader in a school. In fact, the leadership and managerial qualities of women from a headmaster of SMAN 1 Ulu Musi have a number of advantages such as being independent, having good communication, being democratic, being able to face a number of challenges and being willing to work with the team. However, there are also some shortcomings of a female leader, especially at the principal of SMAN 1 Ulu Musi, which tends to involve feelings, order subordinates unevenly, and sternly. This article will also explain some of the challenges she faced while serving as headmaster, actions taken, and hopes for various parties for the progress of SMAN 1 Ulu Musi. The components that must be fulfilled by a school headmaster are personality, managerial, entrepreneurship, supervision and social. This research implies that female gender has its own advantages that can actually advance a school.

Abstract

The pandemic is a challenge for school organizations. One of challenge is financial management. The purpose of this study is to describe the innovations in school management in a pandemic. This study uses literature review to obtain an overview of school institutions to adapt. Data was collected through previous studies that discussed schools, funding, school components, external conditions of schools, and pandemics. The results show that schools are institutionally composed of people who have different goals, skills, cultural capital, but schools have a goal of achieving educational goals. During this pandemic, schools have challenges in managing funding, many parents as sources of funding cannot pay school fees. However, schools adapt to existing conditions, but also schools as complex institutions. Innovations made by school managers by analyzing elements such as formation, adjustment, complex social systems, and actors. The innovation made by schools is to adjust budgets and income effectively and efficiently.

Abstract

Leadership style is a way that a leader in running the organization he leads. Leadership style has an effect on the performance of his subordinates. There are many types of leadership styles that leaders can use such as authoritarian, democratic, and laissez- faire leadership styles. The principal as a school leader should be able to choose a suitable leadership style used to perform school functions well by taking into account the aspects that influence the leadership style. One of the performance that principals need to pay attention is the performance of teachers. Teachers are a very dominant factor in education in general, because teachers hold responsibility in the learning process, where the learning process is at the core of the overall educational process. It is therefore important for principals to choose a suitable leadership style to improve teachers' performance in educating learners
