Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to explore lecturers’ perceptions and practices of humor usage in EFL classrooms. This qualitative study used questionnaires and interview protocols to get data from two senior English lecturers who use humor in their classrooms at an English department of a public university in Indonesia. The result reveals that humor, particularly jokes and spontaneous humor are practical and beneficial for learning English in higher education. However, in delivering humor, the lecturers should consider the setting (time and place), college students’ vocabulary level, age, and sex; humor should not offend them culturally and be understandable.

Abstract

Abstract: The goal of this study was to identify the factors that affect geography students' abilities to use digital tsunami-based maps for disaster mitigation. Multiple linear regression analysis is used in this work. The findings demonstrated that students' learning outcomes in the disaster mitigation sub-materials were significantly impacted by the usage of digital maps in geography instruction. The skills of lecturers, student responses to utilizing tsunami-based digital maps as learning resources, and classroom learning activities between lecturers and students all have an impact on how well students can utilize tsunami-based digital maps. Thus, it can be said that digital maps based on tsunamis are helpful in teaching pupils about disaster preparedness.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the acquisition of consonants that occur in children with ADHD with a bilingual background. This study uses a qualitative approach that aims to describe and explain the acquisition of consonants in children with special needs. This type of research is case study research. This study used a longitudinal design with research subjects only in one child. The results of this study are that Aza mastered 16 Indonesian consonant phonemes which were realized into inhibitory contoids [p,b,t,d,ḍ,k,j,g,?], nasal [m,n,ṇ,ƞ,ň], fricative [s,h], Africative [c,j], and lateral [I]. However, among these sounds there are still sounds that are still fluctuating. The fluctuating sounds include fricative contoid [s] and lateral contoid [l].

Abstract

Abstract: The increasing prevalence of the overuse of social media among adolescents has raised concerns. Educators worry that it may decrease the cognitive functioning of these adolescents. This study of 245 secondary-school students in Palu, Indonesia, reveals that there is a correlation between these students’ diminished perceived attention and the intensity of their internet and social media use. Due to their eagerness to multitask, students who check their social media notifications while doing their online learning experience perceived attention discontinuity. This study suggests the significance of prevention and intervention for adolescents’ media-related problems as they multitask in their online learning environments.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to self-reflect the student-teacher’s (ST’s) scaffolding during her online teaching practicum practice. The self-reflective was conducted in six meetings using a Zoom Application. It utilized a thematic analysis from Braun Clarke (2006). The findings showed that the student-teacher was able to: (1) be aware of her scaffolding drawbacks and improved significantly in the next meetings, (2) improve students’ understanding, (3) conduct appropriate scaffolding learning process by utilizing various graphic organizers and media. While the student teacher was effective in using the scaffolding technique, each theme's improvement path is different. Every meeting is typically used to develop it, and it is acquired in a step-by-step manner.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to examine an increase in students' critical thinking in biology following the implementation of the Reading Concept Mapping-Team Quiz (Remap-TQ). The study employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The research population contained all eleventh graders from seven science classes at SMAN 2 Tanggul Jember, East Java, and the total number of respondents was 105 students. This study's critical thinking indicators include applying, evaluating, using data to develop critical insight, analysing, and synthesising. The analysis showed that the Remap-TQ students achieved better than the TQ and conventional students in terms of critical thinking, indicated by their posttest mean score of 84.29. The findings from this study suggest that Remap-TQ can be used as an alternative learning strategy to improve students' critical thinking in biology.
