Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of children with hearing impairments in reading comprehension. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop strategies for teaching reading comprehension for children with hearing impairments. The method used in Mix Methods. Stages of research conducted in the hierarchy, meaning that the first stages of research will affect the research stage further in order to achieve the research objectives. The results showed that the application of learning strategy in reading comprehension has been developed effectively applied to children with hearing impairment at SLB Prima Bakti Mulya in grade 4-B, the academic year of 2015/2016. This is evident from the results of student learning has increased from the first to the fourth trial. While based on the Wilcoxon test known the value of Z count = -2, 201 with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.028 with a significance level (α) of 5%. Asymp Value. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0, 028 <α = 0.05, then Ho is rejected and Ha accepted because Asymp value. Sig. (2-tailed) <Α = 0.05

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of Play Therapy using colored paper to reduce mathematical anxiety in children. The research method used is Single Subject Research with an A-B-A design. The subjects of this study were third-grade children of SDN 211 / IX Mendalo Darat. Determination of the subject of this study using purposive sampling technique with the criteria for children's mathematic anxiety conditions are in the very high category. The data collection instrument for this research is the mathematic anxiety scale, interview, and observation. The data analysis technique used is the visual analysis of data and graphics. The findings of this study indicate that Play Therapy using colored paper is effective in reducing children's mathematical anxiety in AA subjects, as the impact of counseling changes in the baseline phase increases during the intervention and stabilizes in the follow-up phase. It is suggested that school counselors apply Play Therapy in developing effective daily life (KES) and eliminating daily effective life (KES-T) which aims to form an independent person.

Abstract

Blended learning has been gaining attention in recent years as a method of instruction that combines online and offline learning experiences. This approach can potentially support differentiated learning for students with disabilities, who often require individualized instruction and accommodations. The purpose of this paper is to describe how the blended learning models can be used to support differentiated learning needed by students with special needs in higher education. This study is a qualitative case study. Data was obtained through observation, literature study, documentation and interviews with students and experts on the appropriate learning models for students with disabilities to be implemented in higher education. The findings of this research are in the form of a learning model design with a combination of face-to-face and online lectures through appropriate technology to support differentiated learning for each student with disabilities.

Abstract

Limitations on more than one aspect, cause multiple disability visual impairment (MDVI) students to experience obstacles in carrying out daily activities related to self-care skills. Students need adaptive behavioral learning to provide them with self-reliance. However, teaching materials for adaptive behavior learning are limited. Teachers need teaching materials that can accommodate the learning process of adaptive behavior for students with MDVI. This study aims to develop mind-mapping-based teaching materials for adaptive behavior. Research and development refer to the steps of the ADDIE model. The results of the study explain that the teaching materials are feasible based on assessments from material experts, media experts, and practitioners so that they can be used in the learning process. The teaching materials developed can be the solution for teachers in the process of teaching adaptive behavior for students with MDVI to be skilled in carrying out daily activities.

Abstract

Lack of disaster preparedness has contributed to many disaster victims, especially people with disabilities, who are often neglected in making disaster risk reduction plans. In light of the recent World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai, Japan, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015-2030, which establishes new priorities for disaster risk reduction over the next 15 years, this issue has become a hot topic since then. This paper aims to contribute ideas to the Indonesian government in reforming and improving disaster preparedness services for people with disabilities based on successful theories, research, and practices developed in several countries. Through reviewing literature studies related to the issue and interviewing relevant informants in Indonesia, both data sources coped with six strategies that may contribute to improving disaster preparedness for disabled individuals. The strategies as the results of this study are intended to be used as reference material, particularly by the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), in order to aid in the creation of a framework to better comprehend the communication, mobilization, transportation, and medical requirements of people with disabilities in the context of preparing disaster preparedness program scenarios.

Abstract

The basic aspect that must be mastered by children with intellectual disabilities before mastering other self-development skills is doing toilet training independently. Learning for children with intellectual disabilities in carrying out toilet training activities requires a separate technique and needs to pay attention to the factors that support the success of the program. This study aims to describe the associated factors that support toilet training for children with intellectual disabilities. This study uses a qualitative approach with a type of literature review research that seeks to describe the related factors that support toilet training for children with intellectual disabilities. This literature review was conducted from August to December 2022 using PRISMA. The authors conducted searches in online databases with large repositories of academic studies and fully accessible by the authors. The results showed that: (1) the toilet training program was made based on the results of an assessment containing the abilities, needs, and potential of children with intellectual disabilities, (2) knowledge and intervention skills possessed by parents provide a great opportunity for successful toilet training for children , and (3) there is collaboration between parents and teachers regarding the implementation of toilet training. The success of toilet training for children with intellectual disabilities is influenced by many factors so that the toilet training process requires intensive assistance, especially for parents.

Abstract

The SDeaf Design Lab was established under the Special Education Integration Program of SMK Taman Sutera, Johor. The lab provides a unique opportunity for deaf students to acquire creative skills in graphic design. It is an interactive, multi-sensory environment that allows students to engage with digital media to best develop their design creativity through assigned projects. This study aimed to investigate the impact of assigned projects on the creative design skills of deaf students. In this study, a qualitative focus group research method was used to explore the opinions, experiences, and attitudes of a group of 8 deaf students by having an in-depth discussion about the assigned projects they had worked on. Data were collected through the discussions with these 8 deaf students and the in-depth interviews with the 2 managers from the related graphic design industry. The results of this study demonstrate that the design projects assigned at the SDeaf Design Lab have a significant positive impact on the creative design skills of deaf students. These projects provide opportunities for self-expression, collaboration, and skill development while boosting confidence and preparing students for future professional endeavors in the field of graphic design.
