Abstract

Pulmonary contusions are injuries to the lung parenchyma that often result from blunt trauma to the chest wall. This injury will activate the inflammatory response which can produce the effects of oxidative stress so that eventually lung damage occurs. Several studies have identified the effects of Jati Belanda leaves extracts related to the inflammatory process and their effects as antioxidants. This research is an in vivo experimental study with a prepost-test with control group design approach that aims to determine the effectiveness of the extracts of Jati Belanda (Guazuma ulmifolia) in its protection against pulmonary alveolar cells by pretreatment pulmonary contusions. The subjects of this study were white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain which were divided into 5 groups namely positive control, negative control, Dutch teak leaf extract 125 mg / kgBB, 250 mg / kgBB and 500 mg / kgBW. Rats were induced by dropping a weight of 400 grams as high as 50 cm. The results of the study of Jati Belanda Leaf Extract (EDJB) all doses and positive control can significantly reduce levels of myeloperoxidase expression (p <0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the extracts of Jati Belanda leaves (Guazuma ulmifolia) are all effective doses in reducing the expression of myeloperoxidase in pulmonary tissue of Wistar rats induced by pulmonary contusions.

Abstract

The human body has many rhythms, one of which is biorhythms. Biorhythms consist of three cycles namely physical, emotional and intellectual cycles. Each cycle has positive, negative and critical phases. When taking an exam, a person needs good physical, mental, and intellectual condition. By using the biorhythms cycle, one can see these conditions in order to prepare for the exam. This research is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 386 students of the Medical Education Study Program of Sriwijaya University in 2014 and 2015 in total sampling that met the inclusion criteria. Data taken in the form of secondary data consisting of CBT scores, exam dates, and entry points obtained from the academic section of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, while data on birth dates, BMI and IQ scores were taken from the questionnaire. Biorhythm cycle data is retrieved using biorhythm software. Data processing was performed using Kruskal Wallis test analysis and Linear Regression. From the results of bivariate analysis with the Kruskall Wallis test it is found that IQ scores have a relationship with CBT values (p = 0.010), university entrance has a relationship with CBT values (p = 0,000), and the physical cycle of biorhythms is related to CBT values (p = 0.011), However, in multivariate analysis (Linear Regression) the physical cycle of biorhythms has no relationship with the value of CBT. There is no correlation between biorhythms cycles and CBT scores in the Medical Education Study Program students at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University.

Abstract

Science is a conscious effort to try, find and improve human understanding from various aspects in human nature. The number of medical specialties continues to grow until they reach even smaller branches known as sub-specialties. One type of specialization in medical science is the specialization of cardiology, the science that focuses on the needs of the heart organ. The development of cardiology cannot be separated from the history behind it. The progress of cardiology up to this point is a continuous interrelated journey. Every lesson in the past will be a capital for future experience, as will cardiology, where each phase becomes the foundation for future development.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis which is still a health problem in the world including in Indonesia. TB infection arises due to interference with the regulation of the body's defense system. Cellular immune system plays a role in fighting TB infection, namely the role of T lymphocytes that differentiate into Th1 cells secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines IFN-? and Th2 cells that secrete IL-10 anti-inflammatory cytokines. The EC610 fusion antigen is specific and has a strong antigenicity to T cell stimulation. The aim of the study was to determine differences in the mean levels of IFN-? and IL-10 after EC610 antigen stimulation in patients with active TB and latent TB. The design of this study was a quasi-in vitro experiment with PBMC culture stimulated by EC610 antigens in the active TB and latent TB groups. The research and examination were carried out at the South Sumatra Province SSR and the Health Research and Development Laboratory Center, Central Jakarta. There were 21 subjects with active TB and 28 subjects with latent TB who met the inclusion criteria. Measurement of IFN-levels? and IL-10 was performed using ELISA-Reader. The results showed the levels of IFN-? and IL-10 after EC610 antigen stimulation were higher in active TB than latent TB. High levels of IFN-? active TB patients showed protective immune responses against M.tb germs while high levels of IL-10 showed their role as anti-inflammatory. There is no significant difference in the average level of IFN-? in patients with active TB and latent TB (p = 0.769) and there was a significant difference in the level of IL-10 levels after EC610 antigen stimulation was higher in active TB than latent TB (p = 0,000).

Abstract

Beluntas leaves are useful as a treatment for flour albus and discharge caused by fungi. This study aims to find the anti-fungal activity of fraction of beluntas (Pluchea indica Lees) leaf extract against Candida albicans. This research is an in vitro experimental study using the Posttest-only Control Group Design study design. Methanol extract is obtained through maceration process while the fraction is through liquid-liquid fractionation. The most active fraction is determined by the antifungal activity test. The most active fractions with concentrations of 10%, 5%, 2.5%, 1.25%, 0.625% and the diameter of the inhibition zone 0.3125% were measured by the liquid dilution method. Equivalence with drugs is assessed through regression analysis, then the class of active compounds is determined through bioautographic testing using thin layer chromatography. The research results obtained methanol-fraction-water can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans while the methanol extract, n-hexane and ethyl acetate do not inhibit. The methanol fraction of water which has inhibition zone diameters starts at a concentration of 0.3125% with an average diameter of 7.34 mm and at a concentration of 10% the largest diameter of 17.10 mm is obtained. Through the diluent liquid and the KHM solid fraction from the methanol-water fraction is inhibited at a concentration of 0.3125%. Equivalence test shows that 1 mg / ml of ketoconazole is equivalent to 39,561 mg / ml of methanol-water fraction of beluntas leaves. Compounds that inhibit fungi are thought to be active groups of flavonoid and alkaloid compounds. The methanol-water fraction of beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica Lees) has antifungal activity against Candida albicans in vitro.
