Abstract

This study examines the perception of Manggarai speech community (MSC) on the significance of social harmony in terms of cultural linguistics. In accordance with its problem, this study is descriptive-qualitative based on phenomenological philosophy. The methods and techniques of data collection are observation, interview, recording, note-taking, and documentation study. Data was analyzed qualitatively by using inductive method and encoding technique. The result of study shows, there are a number of traditional expressions in Manggarai language and culture conveying the perception of MSC on the significance of social harmony. In terms of the forms and meanings of linguistic phenomena used, such traditional expressions are the cultural oases inherited from the past functioning as moral and ethic guideline for MSC in maintaining social harmony. Recognizing the contents of those traditional expressions have been reduced out of function frame and meaning schema declared by their ancestors, such traditional expression should be documented, so that their social values be maintained according to real substances in the life of MSC nowadays and in the future.

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana keterampilan peserta didik dalam menulis text, khususnya report text. Selain itu, untuk memberikan suatu gambaran tentang model pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik. Model pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam penelitian tersebut yakni model pembelajaran mind mapping. Metode pengumpulan data dan teknik analisis data dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan pada peserta didik kelas XI IPA 7 tahun ajaran 2014/2015 dapat diketahui adanya peningkatan dari pratindakan ke siklus I dan dari siklus I ke siklus II. Pada tahap pratindakan, peserta didik yang hadir hanya 38 orang peserta didik dari 42 orang peserta didik. Sebanyak 2,63% peserta didik memenuhi nilai KKM 78. Hasil tes awal (pratindakan) menunjukkan bahwa nilai minimal dari tahap awal (pratindakan) adalah 60 dan nilai maksimal adalah 80. Sebanyak 36 orang siswa (94,73%) belum mencapai KKM dan 2 orang siswa (5,26%) mampu mencapai nilai KKM, yaitu 78 ke atas. Pada siklus I mind mapping diterapkan, hasilnya menunjukkan sebanyak 11,90% peserta didik mampu memperoleh nilai yang mencapai KKM, dan 88,09% peserta didik memperoleh nilai di bawah nilali KKM, yaitu di bawah nilai 78. Nilai terendah adalah 71 dan nilai tertinggi adalah 83. Pada siklus II, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik, mind mapping tetap digunakan dengan menekankan kepada peserta didik agar setelah pengerjaan karangan, peserta didik dapat me-review kembali pekerjaan mereka. Hasil karangan peserta didik pada siklus II memenuhi KKM dengan nilai terendah 78 dan nilai tertinggi, yaitu 89. Rata-rata nilai peserta didik pada siklus II adalah 81,5.

Abstract

Balinese language is the mother tongue of Balinese. This language is used in the daily life of Balinese. It is also a historical evidence for Balinese that takes a position as a means of expression in Balinese culture, in which inside it, it has recorded, such as aesthetic experience, religion, social, politics and other aspects of Balinese life. In its development, there are some levels in Balinese language appeared and they are called sor singgih of Balinese Language. The problem discussed in this study include (1) the process of learning sor singgih of Balinese language in the speaking skil, (2) the mastery of sor singgih of Balinese language in the speaking skill, (3) factors that affects students' performance in mastering it. The data were collected by doing an analysis upon conversation conducted by students. The data were selected and analyzed in descriptive and qualitative ways. Based on the analysis, there were weakness and lack of learning aids used and also some errors found in students' performance while using sor singgih of Balinese language due to the influence of Indonesian, the characteristic of students, along side with facilities and basic facilities as the supporting factors of the affectivity of speaking.

Abstract

Abstract Ansus is an Austronesian language which is located in the west of Yapen Island. The language is spoken mainly on the village of Ansus, Kairawa and Yemprum on the island of Miosnum. This research is focused on morphology and syntax, especially in agreement between subject and verb in Ansus language. This research is aimed to present the morphosyntax of subject verb agreement in Ansus language. Descriptive method is used in this research. The results of this study are in Ansus Language the agreement is the prefix of the verb phrase and does not happen in second person singular and third person singular as the subject. In addition, the agreements are the prefix e - , u -, mu -, anto -, mito -, ito -, ama -, and me -. Prefix e- is found in the sentence which consists of first person singular as subject. Prefix u- is found in the sentences which consist of first person dual and third person dual as subject. Prefix mu- is found in the sentence which consists of second person dual as subject. Prefix anto-, mito-, ito- are found in the sentences which consist of first person trial, second person trial, and third person trial as subject. Prefix ama- and me- are found in the sentence which consist of first person plural and second person plural as subject.

Abstract

Politeness rules of conduct are established and agreed upon by a given society that civility as well as a prerequisite agreed by social behavior. This study aims to determine politeness in Japanese, especially the use of politeness in the classroom. Observations made ??in New Media Computer College who showed that in a social environment necessary to courtesy, especially in the educational environment. Politeness can be positive and negative politeness characterized by verbal politeness which is an activity in which the language reflected the values ??of courtesy / civility cultural values ??of an area. Nonverbal politeness is an act that is considered common according to benchmarks cultural values ??prevailing in society. The research was carried out with the data obtained from the inventory and observation, and then analyzed according to the theoretical foundation of the study. Data were collected, clarified and categorized to facilitate hypothesis testing. The test data was formalized in the form of verbal using symbols, and is in the form of informal descriptions. Communication has the objective to deliver the message of the speaker to the listener. Communication also aims to establish social relationships and the need to understand the socio-cultural aspects of both parties, as well as the ability to associate the phrase with situational contexts (context of situation), grammatical context (grammatical context), and the cultural context (cultural context) in which the conversation takes place.

Abstract

Tulisan ini berisi kajian tentang makna dan nilai yang terkandung di dalam tuturan Pintu Pazir Ziu Anak. Tuturan ini merupakan doa tradisi orang Riung di Kabupaten Ngada. Berdasarkan pencermatan terhadap teks tuturan dan ditunjang oleh pencecekan silang melalui wawancara dengan anggota guyub budaya Riung, diperoleh hasil analisis, sebagai berikut: tuturan Pintu Pazir Ziu Anak dalam budaya Riung mengandung makna religius dan makna sosial. Pemahaman makna religius berimplikasi pada sikap dan perilaku yang merupakan wujud pengayatan terhadap nilai-nilai: pemulihan, pemujaan dan permohonan, serta nilai kepasrahan. Dimensi kemanusiaan juga tampak dalam tuturan Pintu Pazir Ziu Anak. Dimensi kemanusiaan yang dipahami sebagai makna sosial mencakup nilai-nilai: nilai pencitraan, eknomis, kejujuran, dan nilai pewarisan. Baik mana dan nilai religius maupun makna dan nilai sosial, keduanya merupakan suatu keseluruhan membangun dan mewujudkan cara pandang orang Riung tentang Sang Pencipta dan manusia.

Abstract

Yama kotoba as a language which is the identity of the Matagi has the function of language as language functions presented by Halliday and Hasan (1985:17). Yama kotoba has three main functions of language that is informative functions that provide information about things that matagi belief, weather and natural conditions where the Matagi hunting and hunting system that is used by Matagi along with the hunting group. Interactive functions of yama kotoba are about taboo things that should not be done at all because it can lead to bad things against Matagi themselves and the group. Interactive functions in social control also refers to the interactive functions to support the environment, as yama kotoba delivered on the function of social control or command lists to ban some things taboo. The taboo things that can help Matagi maintain balance and preservation of nature in the mountains. Then, yama kotoba’s Imaginative Function consist of ritual and poetic function.

Abstract

Nyiang Lengan is an oral tradition of the Dayak Maanyan tribes in Central Kalimantan, especially in East Barito Regency. This tradition is composed of the literary language which is sung by using Pangunraun language. This research uses a morphosemantic study to understand the morphological form and its significance. Nyiang Lengan is reviewed since the writer would like to preserve the culture of Dayak Maanyan tribes and also introduce this tradition to the younger generation so that they will realize the importance of this oral tradition for the Dayak Maanyan people. It is because many young generations of Dayak Maanyan can not sing it even understand the messages of Nyiang Lengan. This research focuses on affixation and significance in the text of Nyiang Lengan. Affixation becomes the main topic to find out the morphological changes in the text of the oral tradition. Afterwards, understanding the significance is also important so that the messages of Nyiang Lengan can be delivered.

Abstract

Abstract Politeness has been discussed from different perspectives, i.e. pragmatics, sociolinguistics, the social psychology of language, psycholinguistics, developmental psychology, and anthropology. However, most authors seem to agree that politeness is a feature of language use. It is indicated that the politeness of linguistic acts is determined by their occurrence in communicative contexts rather than by inherent properties, pushes the issue even further by noting that being ‘polite’ is attributable only to speakers’ conduct, it is the conduct itself, whether in form of language use or other behaviours, that is routinely assessed as more or less polite relative to community values and norms (Fraser, 1990, Kasper, 1997). Thus, politeness is a crucial element of interpersonal communication in all cultures. This paper evaluates theories commonly used to approach the universality and the relativity of the issue. Abstrak Politeness sebagai kajian kebahasaan telah didiskusikan dari berbagai perspektif, seperti: pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psikologi sosial bahasa, psikolinguistik, psikologi perkembangan, dan antropologi. Akan tetapi semua ahli nampaknya bersepakat bahwa issue politeness sesungguhnya fitur dari penggunaan bahasa. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh perilaku linguistik politeness banyak ditentukan oleh konteks komunikasi itu sendiri, sehingga menjadi property inheren dalam bentuk penggunaan bahasa dan perilaku kebahasaan yang setiap saat bisa dibandingkan dengan perilaku kebahasaan yang kurang pas (sopan) berdasarkan cara pandang masyarakat pengguna bahasa tertentu (Fraser, 1990, Kasper, 1997). Dengan demikian politeness merupakan faktor krusial dalam komunikasi interpersonal setiap budaya. Tulisan ini mencoba mengevaluasi teori-teori terkait yang lazim digunakan dalam mendekati universalitas dan relativitas politeness.

Abstract

This article deals with the system of nominalization in Gayo language. It is aimed at investigating the procces of morphology in terms of affixation based on the two different stems: adjective and verb in Gayo language. Semantically this is to find out the grammatical meaning carried out by the procces of affixation. The method of reaserch applied qualitative and descriptive by natural approach developed by (Seliger and Elana: 1989) and (Muhadjir:1989). The object of the reaserch is nominalization in Gayo language. The sources of the data used the text books which written in Gayo language as well as using informants of Gayo native speakers. Based on the analysis of the data, the findings showing that the procces of affixation in the system of nominalization in Gayo language based on the stems adjective and Verb. Based on the adjective stem the highest frequency is an affix {ke-en} (34.30%). In other words, it is the most productive one, and infix {-in-} the lowest one (0.25%). Based on the verb stem the highest frequency is an affix {pen-en} (13.68%). While the lowest one is the one affix {we-} (0.23%). Therefore the grammatical meanings resuling from the procces of the affixation for nominalization in Gayo language tend to be varities. There are, 8 types of affixes and 17 types of grammatical meanings which based on the adjective stem. While in verb stem there are 7 types of affixes and 12 types of grammatical meanings. And semantically, there are 11 types of grammatical meanings.
