Abstract

The  development of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia is currently dominated by a formal sharia compliance approach on the legality of contracts, but has not been fully and systematically integrated with the substantive values of maqashid sharia. This study aims to identify the types and characteristics of Islamic banking products, examine the principles of maqashid sharia as a foundation for product development, and analyze the implementation of maqashid sharia within the operational schemes of Islamic banking products. Utilizing a qualitative approach with a library research method and content analysis technique, data were gathered from various academic literatures, regulations, and authoritative fatwas. The results indicate that Islamic banking products—categorized into funding, financing, and financial services—have implemented the five core pillars of preservation (al-kulliyat al-khamsah). This actualization is reflected in: (1) hifdz al-din through the elimination of riba, gharar, maysir, and the integration of ZISWAF; (2) hifdz al-nafs through the mutualism principle in contracts and sharia insurance risk mitigation; (3) hifdz al-’aql through product information disclosure and financial education; (4) hifdz al-nasl through the provision of future family financial planning products; and (5) hifdz al-mal through optimizing intermediation functions in halal real sectors and accountable risk management. This study concludes that maqashid sharia parameters must be established as primary indicators for product achievement and evaluation to realize sustainable welfare (maslahah) and distributive justice substantively for society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) within Islamic economic law in modern transactions and to examine the relevance of Islamic principles to the development of the contemporary economic system. Technological developments and the digitalization of the economy have given rise to various forms of modern transactions, such as e-commerce, fintech, digital wallets, and online investments, which require Islamic legal studies to ensure their compliance with Islamic principles. This study employed a qualitative research method with a library research approach. Data were obtained from the Quran, hadith, books, scientific journals, fatwas from the National Council of Islamic Scholars (DSN-MUI), and various other literature related to Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) and Islamic economic law. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive-analytical technique, examining the concepts, principles, and implementation of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) in modern transactions. The results show that Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) has the flexibility to address modern economic developments as long as the transactions do not contain elements of usury (riba), gharar (gharar), maysir (gambling), and harmful practices. The implementation of Islamic principles in modern transactions can create a more just, transparent, and socially beneficial economic system.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted at the Air Tiris Islamic Boarding School (PPMTI) in Kampar Regency, targeting students currently studying. The activity, themed "Strengthening Sharia Financial Literacy for Students at PPMTI in Kampar Regency," aimed to increase students' knowledge of sharia financial concepts in accordance with Islamic principles. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of sharia-compliant economic transactions after participating in the counseling. Prior to the activity, most participants had a limited understanding of the difference between sharia-compliant transactions and those containing riba (usury). Through the presentation of material, interactive discussions, and case studies relevant to everyday life, students gained a better understanding of the principles of justice, honesty, and welfare in economic activities. The counseling also succeeded in raising students' awareness to avoid riba practices and to be more selective in choosing sharia-compliant transactions. The enthusiasm of the participants throughout the activity demonstrated that the counseling was effective in improving sharia-compliant financial literacy within the Islamic boarding school environment.

Abstract

The development of digital payment systems through the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has driven changes in people's transaction patterns towards a cashless society. However, the use of cash has not been completely abandoned because it still has an inherent subjective meaning in everyday life. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the meaning of cash amidst the increasing adoption of QRIS among consumers of modern shopping centers in Pekanbaru City. The study used a qualitative approach with Edmund Husserl's transcendental phenomenology method to understand the participants' lived experiences and awareness regarding the use of cash and digital payments. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 15 participants from Generation Z, Millennials, and Generation X, and supported by participant observation. Data analysis was carried out through stages of phenomenological reduction, meaning grouping, and thematic analysis. The results of the study identified three main themes: cash as a means of budget control, cultural heritage and symbols of locality, and the experience of loss of presence due to the digitalization of transactions. These findings indicate that cash still has important psychological, social, and cultural values. The novelty of the study lies in revealing the subjective experiences of Pekanbaru residents regarding the meaning of cash in the era of QRIS-based digital payment transformation.

Abstract

The halal industry is a strategic sector with significant potential to support national economic growth, particularly in Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. As public awareness of halal products increases, the development of the halal industry is not only understood as fulfilling religious aspects but also encompasses increasingly significant economic, social, and global dimensions. The halal industry plays a crucial role in creating added value, expanding employment opportunities, and enhancing the competitiveness of national products in the international market. This article aims to comprehensively examine the halal industry development strategy in Indonesia by examining the concept of the halal industry, its current conditions and potential, the role of digitalization in expanding market access, applicable regulations, and various challenges and recommendations for its development. The research method used is a qualitative approach through literature review utilizing relevant and up-to-date scientific sources. The study results indicate that Indonesia has significant potential to become a global halal industry hub, supported by a large domestic market, abundant natural resources, and rapid development of digital technology. However, the development of the halal industry still faces various challenges, such as limited product competitiveness, suboptimal regulatory implementation, and a lack of human resource readiness. Therefore, an integrated and sustainable development strategy is needed so that the Indonesian halal industry can compete at the national and global levels.
