Abstract

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the influence of work-family conflict and the glass ceiling on the performance of female lecturers in higher education institutions, with job satisfaction examined as a mediating variable. Design/methodology/approachA quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing a survey method to collect data from 98 female lecturers affiliated with the APTIK network. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the hypothesized relationships among variables. FindingsThe results demonstrate that both work-family conflict and the glass ceiling have significant negative effects on job satisfaction. Furthermore, job satisfaction is proven to mediate the relationship between these factors and female lecturer performance. These findings highlight the critical role of psychological well-being in enhancing academic performance among female lecturers. Practical implicationsThe study provides actionable insights for human resource management in higher education institutions to design effective policies and interventions aimed at reducing work-family conflict and breaking the glass ceiling. Enhancing job satisfaction can be a strategic approach to improving lecturer performance. Originality/valueThis research offers empirical evidence on the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between work-family conflict, the glass ceiling, and lecturer performance. The study contributes to the limited body of knowledge focusing on female academic staff within the APTIK network, offering valuable guidance for institutional development and gender equity initiatives. Abstract

This study examines the effects of digital fatigue, work-family conflict (WFC), and perceived role overload on career regression among banking employees, with burnout as a mediating factor. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 384 banking employees in Palembang through structured questionnaires. The findings reveal that digital fatigue, WFC, and role overload significantly contribute to burnout, which mediates their impact on career regression. Grounded in the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Theory, the results demonstrate that excessive job demands heighten the risk of burnout when unbalanced by sufficient resources, ultimately hindering career development. The study underscores the importance of organisational efforts to minimise digital demands, promote work-life balance, and manage workloads to mitigate burnout. Limitations include reliance on self-reported data and a focus on the banking sector. Future research should explore broader populations and examine additional factors such as social support and coping strategies.

Abstract

The initial process of face-to-face learning that occurs at the beginning of the school year requires adequate preparation both physically and mentally for students. Not infrequently the initial process causes stress and eventually triggers conflict, both between individuals and groups. On the other hand, learning must continue and the competency of the predetermined subject does not experience problems in being delivered. The purpose of this PKM activity is to integrate 2 materials in one flow of activity: stress management with one of the lessons, namely English. Activities are scheduled in 4 meetings with seminary students in Rethorica A and B classes as participants. Total participants were 33 people. The results of the activity showed positive results and responses from all participants which were shown from the pretest and posttest scores and the feedback questionnaire. The experience of learning contextual English and awareness of the causes and effects of stress can provide meaningful input from the learning process and self-management for prospective priests.
