Abstract

Purpose of the study: Early childhood science education forms the foundation for students' scientific literacy and inquiry skills. Teacher perceptions and self-efficacy beliefs significantly influence the quality and frequency of science instruction in kindergarten settings. Understanding these factors is crucial for improving early science education outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between kindergarten teachers' perceptions of science teaching and their self-efficacy beliefs, and to determine how these factors influence science instruction practices in Indonesian kindergarten settings. Materials and methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 135 kindergarten teachers from 27 kindergarten institutions in Pekanbaru City, Indonesia. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring teacher perceptions of science teaching importance, self-efficacy beliefs, and science teaching practices. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 29.0. Results: Results revealed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.742, p < 0.001) between teacher self-efficacy and frequency of science instruction. Teachers with higher self-efficacy scores (M = 4.23, SD = 0.58) demonstrated more positive perceptions toward science teaching compared to those with lower self-efficacy (M = 3.45, SD = 0.72). Multiple regression analysis indicated that self-efficacy beliefs explained 55.1% of the variance in science teaching practices. Conclusions: Teacher self-efficacy emerged as the strongest predictor of effective science instruction in kindergarten settings. Professional development programs focusing on enhancing teacher confidence and competence in science education are essential for improving early childhood science learning outcomes.

Abstract

Motor competency is a foundational component of adolescent physical development, influencing both health outcomes and long-term activity participation. However, evidence on the reliability of comprehensive motor skill assessments in Indonesian high schools remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the test–retest reliability of a six-item sports motor competency battery in Indonesian high school students. Sixty adolescents (aged 15–17) from Perbaungan, North Sumatra, completed standardized assessments including sprint, vertical jump, agility, push-up, sit-and-reach, and medicine ball throw tests. A one-week interval separated repeated trials, and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC), Standard Error of Measurement, and Bland–Altman analyses were employed. Results demonstrated excellent reliability across all measures (ICC = 0.89–0.97) with minimal measurement error and no gender differences. Small but non-significant learning effects were observed in vertical jump and push-up performance. These findings confirm that the battery provides consistent, dependable metrics suitable for physical education monitoring, talent identification, and longitudinal adolescent motor competency research.

Abstract

Objectives: The research investigated the efficacy of football basic engineering programs on primary students and the influencing factors on skill mastery. Methods: The sample comprised 120 students (65 males, 55 females) from grades 4 and 5 engaged in a 12-week instructional program. The study assessed five fundamental techniques: ball control, passing, dribbling, shooting, and heading. A pre-test and post-test methodology was employed to evaluate skill enhancement through standardized assessments. Results: Findings indicated significant skill improvement (p<0.001) across all techniques, with ball control exhibiting the greatest enhancement (45%) and heading the least (25%). Factor analysis revealed a robust correlation between skill advancement and age (r=0.72) as well as exercise frequency (r=0.68), while gender did not demonstrate a significant impact (p=0.245). Notably, 85% of participants exhibited considerable progress in ball control, whereas heading techniques recorded a lower success rate (60%). Conclusion: The conclusion drawn posits that football basic engineering programs are effective in enhancing elementary students' skills, with age and training intensity identified as principal success factors.
