Abstract

Abstract

Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignancy in the nasopharyngeal area with squamous differentiation. According to Ruland and Moore, every cancer patient has the right to get comprehensive bio-socio-spiritual care to improve quality of life by relieving pain and other sufferings and providing spiritual and psychosocial support. The writing aims to apply a peaceful end-of-life care nursing theory to the nasopharyngeal cancer patient. This writing uses a case study approach. Case studies were taken on patients with nasopharyngeal cancer treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. Case study was taken for seven days of treatment. Patients were analyzed by using Peaceful End of Life Theory. The result showed that the main nursing problem is chronic pain. Applying the theory of the peaceful end of life is appropriate for cancer patients with palliative conditions to improve their quality of life, free from pain, increasing feelings of comfort, cherish and respect, peace, and feeling close to people who are meaningful in their lives. The conclusion is that the theoretical approach focuses on the physical problems experienced and psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Nurses are expected to be able to apply the Peaceful End of Life theoretical approach in providing nursing care to patients with cancer.

Abstract

Chronic kidney failure, a progressive and irreversible decline in kidney function, poses a significant health challenge with diverse etiologies. Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) emerges as a crucial treatment method, utilizing the peritoneal cavity as a conduit for dialysis fluid. Prolonged CAPD use, coupled with inadequate maintenance, can lead to peritoneal membrane failure, resulting in complications such as peritonitis. This community engagement initiative aims to enhance patient adherence to exit site care at home for CAPD users, mitigating the risk of recurrent peritonitis infections. Patient data were sourced from the CAPD Center at Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital in Malang. Preventive efforts focused on empowering patients through routine exit site care modules delivered at home. Notably, 83% of respondents exhibited high adherence to exit site care, signifying a positive impact on infection prevention. Additionally, the majority of CAPD patients reported good quality of life at 67.9%. This study interprets adherence as patients' behavior aligning with Standard Operational Procedures post-consultation, with 83% demonstrating compliance. The findings underscore the importance of home-based exit site care in reducing recurrent peritonitis incidents among CAPD patients.

Abstract

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease affecting the integumentary and organ systems. It impacts daily activities and degrades self-esteem. Meanwhile, there is a minimum amount of literature about self-care management education for Psoriasis. Pocketbooks can be used as an alternate learning tool for self-care management by making them more portable among patients. The aims are to foster a positive perception of illness and self-determination regarding Psoriasis. This study evaluated the effectiveness of providing self-care management education using a pocketbook on the illness perception of Psoriasis. The research employed a mixed-methods design, combining quasi-experimental and qualitative approaches. The study involves 30 participants diagnosed with Psoriasis. Participants are divided into two groups: a control and an intervention group. The Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ) was utilized to assess the participants' perceptions of their illness before and after the intervention. A paired t-test was used to compare pre-test and post-test scores within each group. A two-sample t-test was employed to compare the mean differences between the control and intervention groups. The significance level was set at a p-value of 0.05. The interview data were transcribed verbatim using thematic analysis. The study indicates a difference in the illness perception of patients between control and intervention groups with a significance value of 0.000. Patients report that understanding triggers and management strategies allow for better health. Pocketbook is a practical education approach improving illness perceptions of Psoriasis. Recognizing triggers and adopting management techniques, patients are able to take steps to deal with flare-ups and improve their well-being.

Abstract

Spinal disorders have been observed to increase during the COVID-19 pandemic. The prevalence of prolonged sitting habits during this period has significantly contributed to the rise in spinal disorders. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between 250,000 and 500,000 individuals worldwide experience spinal disorders annually. Kyphosis, specifically, is frequently identified in children aged 7 to 11 years. In adolescents, kyphosis may be effectively managed through brace therapy. Although various braces are available in the market, they do possess certain limitations. To address such limitations, a technology named PostureCare has been developed to monitor spinal alignment during brace therapy. This technology enables the plotting of graphs enhanced by Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity within an application, thereby facilitating easier data monitoring for users and caregivers. The objective of this research is to design, test, and further develop the PostureCare application. The methodologies employed in this study encompass a literature review, the design and creation of tools and applications, followed by rigorous testing and evaluation. Testing of PostureCare was conducted on two children, during which gyroscopic sensor data were compared to readings from an inclinometer. The results indicated a cervical sensor deviation of 0.85° and a lumbar sensor deviation of 0.791°. The temperature assessment of the heating element revealed a range between 36°C and 40°C. Additionally, the vibration module was activated when the cervical sensor detected a tilt exceeding 25 degrees. Testing results from both children over a seven-day period demonstrated that the cervical sensor recorded an angle of less than 16°, with no signs indicating the presence of kyphosis. It can be concluded that PostureCare has been validated as a tool for detecting spinal ergonomics that may contribute to the development of kyphosis.
