Abstract

This study aims to determine the benefits and feasibility of lowland rice farming in Konda District, Konawe Selatan Regency. The population in this study is all lowland rice farmers. The samples were determined by cluster random sampling with a total sample of 60 farmers. Data were collected by interview method, and data collected included: costs, production, and revenue of lowland rice farming. The results of the study show that the benefits of lowland rice farming are relatively small, and the value of revenue/cost (R/C), both the R/C of the explicit cost and the R/C of the total cost is greater than 1 (one), which means that lowland rice farming is feasible. Keywords: profit; feasibility; farming; paddy

Abstract

This study aims to describe the competence of farmers in pepper farming. The research location was in the Kosebo Village, Angata Subdistrict, Konawe Selatan District that was chosen purposively, with the consideration that the village was the center of pepper production in Konawe Selatan Regency. The study population is all pepper farmers, amounting to 300 people. The sampling technique is done by simple random sampling. Determination of the number of samples using the Slovin formula to obtain a sample of 75 pepper farmers. The research variables consisted of 2 (two) competencies, namely the level of knowledge and skills of farmers in terms of aspects of cultivation techniques, starting from land preparation/planting hole, climbing pole planting, seed selection/ planting, plant maintenance (pest and disease control) to harvesting. Data analysis was performed descriptively qualitative. The results showed that the level of knowledge and skills of farmers who were well understood and mastered related to pepper cultivation, namely aspects of land preparation/planting hole, climbing pole planting, selection of seeds, planting and harvesting, while aspects of crop maintenance specifically control of stem rot rot were not yet understood and well controlled by farmers. Keywords: competence; farmers; pepper farming

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence production and analyze the efficiency of allocation of the use of production factors on tomato farming conducted in Kapontori District, Buton Regency. Data collection was conducted in January-April 2019 with the survey method. A total of 67 tomato farmers were selected as samples using the simple random sampling method. Data were analyzed using multiple nonlinear regression with Cobb-Douglas production function followed by calculation of price efficiency. The results showed that the area of land, seeds, and fertilizers were factors of production which had a significant effect on tomato production. Tomato farming is on an increasing return to scale scale where increasing use of factors in the production of land, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and labor simultaneously leads to a greater increase in tomato production. Production factor allocation efficiency analysis shows that the use of production factors in land area is not efficient so it needs to be added, the use of seed production factors is not efficient so it needs to be added, and the use of fertilizer production factors is inefficient so it needs to be reduced. Keywords: efficiency; production factors; tomatoes
