Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore and describe the model of empowerment of rice farmers by the local government as a function of empowerment. Rice farmers are the subject of research due to their position as the largest producer of food crops in Indonesia, even in the world (FAOSTAT, 2014). Jember Regency is the largest rice production center in East Java in 2016, but there are still many rice farmers who are less empowered. Based on these reasons, Jember Regency is one of the pilot projects of the upstream downstream agronomy program organized by East Java Province. This program aims to create farmer entrepreneurs who have added value, so that the concept of empowering farmers can be realized. The research approach uses a qualitative approach. The technique of determining informants used purposive sampling technique. Informants in this study included the department of food crops and horticulture in Jember Regency and a combination of farmer groups (Gapoktan Mitra Tani Sejati) in Candijati Village, Silo Jember District. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques using in-depth interviews, observation and literature. Data analysis techniques are carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results and discussion show that the model of empowerment of rice farmers carried out by the local government of Kabupaten Jember in the upstream downstream program of agromarry in agriculture is a model of empowerment through partnerships. The empowerment model through partnership is an empowerment model that involves more than two or more stakeholders. The stakeholders include the East Java provincial government, the department of food crops and horticulture in Jember Regency, the Institute for Agricultural Technology Studies, under the Balitbangtan, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Bank Jatim as a fund buffer bank, insurance jasindo as guarantor, GAPOKTAN MITRA TANI SEJATI Sumber Jati Village Subdistrict Silo, and Farmers. All stakeholders have different functions and roles in making the upstream downstream agromaritime agriculture program successful. Until the evaluation of 2018, the upstream downstream agrarian program in agriculture has experienced problems in the process of scouring.

Abstract

This study investigates how conjunctions are used for organizing ideas in abstracts of linguistics and literature theses written by undergraduate students of English Department in an Indonesian university. It also reveals the similarities in the ways conjunctions being used in the abstracts. It employs descriptive qualitative design to examine 82 abstracts which have been collected from 41 linguistics and 41 literature theses. The abstracts are analyzed by classifying and calculating the use of conjunctions using conjunctions taxonomy proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen (2014). The study finds that six abstracts do not apply conjunctions. While the rest use the three types of conjunctions: elaboration, extension, and enhancement. Elaborating conjunctions are used appropriately, whereas extending and enhancing conjunctions are partly inappropriately. Two kinds of inappropriate uses of conjunctions are misuse and overuse. The use of conjunctions in abstracts of linguistics and literature theses is quite similar in the ways they are used and total number of their uses. Certain conjunctions are present in the abstracts, while the others are inexistent. Both kinds of abstracts mostly use extending conjunctions, more especially positive additives. It can be concluded that the use of conjunctions varies in terms of their appropriateness. Inappropriate uses of conjunctions evince that EFL (English as a foreign language) learners had difficulty in using conjunctions in their writing. The students whose abstracts do not apply conjunctions connected the ideas in their abstracts using words and/or phrases which are excluded in the theoretical framework of this study. More similarities than differences in the ways conjunctions being used in the two kinds of abstracts prove that students from the same department of study had the same discourses.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the prepositional errors that are made in the captions of @barackobama’s Instagram posts. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research methodology. The data in this study is 167 post captions of @barackobama Instagram accounts during 2022. Based on Azar’s (2006) prepositional theory, this study finds 2 prepositional errors, which is equal to 1,2%, in two different captions. The errors are preposition of time and preposition of place. The results of this study differ from those of Dwiyanti (2017) and Putri (2019). They found more errors than the number of errors in this study. The difference in the number of errors found can be because the subjects of their study are Indonesian students who are English foreign language learners. While the subject of this study is an English native speaker. The captions of the Instagram posts @barackobama are highly recommended for students to learn English.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning media, namely a smart board. This learning media is highly recommended to be implemented in both low and high grades of elementary schools. This study applies qualitative research since it focuses on in-depth observation. Therefore, the use of qualitative methods in research can produce a more comprehensive study of a phenomenon. Data collection techniques used are interviews, tests, and observations. The validation results obtained were 96.15% which means that the smart board learning media can be applied. Based on the results of the data that have been obtained, it can be concluded that the knowledge or cognitive abilities of fifth grade students at SDN Bluru Kidul 2 Sidoarjo increased with the application of smart board learning media. In other words, the actions carried out in the study were said to be successful without any further action

Abstract

English Department students are expected to be able to write an academic essay as they learn the theories of writing an academic essay in Writing courses. Yet, their academic essays still contain structure errors. This study aims to analyze the structure errors in the fields of unity and coherence. The methods of this study are first identifying the structure errors on the data and second classifying the errors on whether the error is about the unity or coherence. The finding shows a significant number of errors on unity and coherence in most paragraphs of the essays.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada peran ikon desa di Desa Gisik Cemandi, Kecamatan Sedati, Kabupaten Sidoarjo, dalam mempromosikan budaya lokal dan pembangunan komunitas. Ikon desa yang merupakan tokoh penting dan berpengaruh dalam masyarakat, berperan dalam menjaga dan mengembangkan tradisi serta nilai-nilai lokal. Metode penelitian meliputi antropologi budaya dan sosiologi, dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ikon desa sangat penting dalam mempertahankan tradisi budaya, memfasilitasi kerjasama komunitas, dan berperan aktif dalam inisiatif pembangunan. Ikon desa menjadi penghubung antara masyarakat desa, pemerintah, dan pihak lain, serta membantu meningkatkan semangat gotong royong dan partisipasi warga. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang peran ikon desa sebagai agen perubahan dan dapat membantu mengembangkan strategi pembangunan yang lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan. This community service focuses on the role of village icons in Gisik Cemandi Village, Sedati District, and Sidoarjo Regency in promoting local culture and community development. Village icons who are important and influential societal figures play a role in maintaining and developing local traditions and values. Research methods include cultural anthropology and sociology, with data collection through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results show that village icons are important in maintaining cultural traditions, facilitating community collaboration, and playing an active role in development initiatives. Village icons link village communities, the government, and other parties and help increase the spirit of cooperation and citizen participation. This research provides insight into the role of village icons as agents of change and can help develop more effective and sustainable development strategies.

Abstract

Pengembangan wisata desa wajib dilakukan oleh setiap warga karena memiliki potensi dalam kemajuan desa. Pembangunan wisata melalui renovasi dan pengoptimalan spot foto Kampung Bahari yang dilakukan oleh sivitas akademika UNUSIDA tahun 2023 juga pernah direalisasikan pada tahun 2019. Pembuatan spot foto di tanggul pelabuhan nelayan Desa Gisik Cemandi dilakukan dengan menggunakan limbah kulit kerrang. Pada kegiatan ini, promosi wisata dilakukan dengan bantuan dan dukungan remaja desa, yaitu KARTAR dan IPNU IPPNU Desa Gisik Cemandi, melalui media sosial. Promosi ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan eksplorasi wisata spot foto Kampung Bahari oleh pengunjung dari luar wilayah Desa Gisik Cemandi. The development of village tourism must be carried out by every resident because it has the potential to improve the village. Tourism development through renovation and optimization of the Kampung Bahari photo spot carried out by the UNUSIDA academic community in 2023 was also realized in 2019. The creation of a photo spot on the embankment of the fishing port of Gisik Cemandi Village was carried out using shell waste. In this activity, tourism promotion was carried out with the help and support of village youth, namely KARTAR and IPNU IPPNU Gisik Cemandi Village, through social media. This promotion aims to develop tourist exploration of the Kampung Bahari photo spot by visitors from outside the Gisik Cemandi Village area.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the learning process using mind mapping on reading narrative text material and student's perceptions of the use of mind mapping. Data collection was carried out in July 2023 in class VIII-A of Al-Muayyad Middle School Wates Kedensari Tanggulangin and totalled 8 students. This study uses qualitative descriptive research. The instruments used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. Researchers used observation techniques to obtain data during the mind-mapping learning process on reading narrative text material in class. Students gave a positive response to the use of mind mapping in class. The results of the interview showed that most students thought that the use of mind mapping could have a positive impact because felt interested in learning and found it easier to understand the material. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan proses pembelajaran menggunakan mind mapping pada materi reading narrative text dan presepsi siswa terhadap penggunaan mind mapping. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada bulan Juli 2023 di kelas VIII-A SMP Al-Muayyad Wates Kedensari Tanggulangin dan berjumlah 8 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Peneliti menggunakan teknik observasi untuk memperoleh data pada saat proses pembelajaran mind mapping pada materi reading narrative text dalam kelas. Siswa memberikan respon positif pada penggunaan mind mapping di kelas. Hasil wawancara menunjukan sebagian besar siswa beranggapan bahwa penggunaan mind mapping dapat memberikan dampak positif karena mereka merasa tertarik untuk belajar, dan lebih mudah memahami materi.

Abstract

Manual jimpitan financial management in RT 03 RW 01 Ngaresrejo Village, Sidoarjo Regency faces problems of inaccurate recording and lack of transparency to residents. The purpose of this community service is to improve the efficiency and transparency of jimpitan financial management through training and implementation of a digital accounting recording system. The method used is the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method and includes several stages such as identifying needs, preparing training materials, implementing workshops, and direct assistance in using the system. The results of this program show that RT administrators can use the digital system well, increasing the accuracy and transparency of financial reports. The main contribution of this program is the application of digital technology in community financial management, which has the potential to be a model for other RTs. This innovation not only simplifies the administrative process but also strengthens community trust in fund management.

Abstract

Pemahaman mendengarkan, yang sering disalahartikan sebagai pasif, adalah proses kompleks dan aktif yang memerlukan keterlibatan kognitif yang signifikan. Penelitian menyoroti peran penting strategi kognitif dan metakognitif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman, dengan studi tentang otonomi pelajar menunjukkan bahwa pelajar yang mahir secara efektif memantau proses pembelajaran mereka dan memanfaatkan sumber daya yang tersedia untuk umpan balik dan peningkatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian campuran dengan 22 siswa kelas XII TKR yang dipilih secara acak di SMK Subang. Pengumpulan data mencakup penilaian pre-test dan post-test, kuesioner terstruktur, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan observasi kelas, sementara analisis data menggunakan metode kuantitatif (uji t berpasangan dan statistik deskriptif) dan metode kualitatif (analisis tematik wawancara dan observasi). Diskusi ini mengeksplorasi integrasi strategi kognitif dan metakognitif dalam mendengarkan bahasa kedua, menyarankan agar pendidik dapat memberdayakan siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam memahami bahasa Inggris lisan. Dengan mengintegrasikan strategi seperti pengulangan, ringkasan, dan bertanya pada diri sendiri ke dalam pengajaran bahasa, pendidik dapat memberikan siswa alat untuk menjadi pelajar yang lebih mandiri, meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman mendengarkan mereka, dan mendorong keterlibatan yang lebih dalam dengan materi pembelajaran, yang pada akhirnya mempromosikan retensi jangka panjang dan penerapan keterampilan bahasa dalam berbagai konteks.
