Abstract

Currently, using natural fibers as composite reinforcement is a new pattern in material technology. Natural fiber-reinforced composite materials have sustainable potential in the industrial field because the natural fibers used significantly impact the composite's mechanical properties. However, the chemical content of natural fibers can affect the mechanical properties of the composite. Therefore, chemical treatment of fibers that will be used as composite reinforcement must be done to produce mechanical properties such as optimal impact strength. This research aims to see the effect of treatment time on citronella fibers and the type of treatment solution on the resulting impact strength. The method used in this research is a 2k factorial design. In this study, the impact test used the ISO 179-01 standard reference with the treatment of citronella fiber soaked using liquid smoke solution and fiber boiling using turmeric solution, and the length of the treatment process was 1 hour and 3 hours. The results showed that the interaction between the type of solution and the length of treatment time affected the impact strength.

Abstract

Natural resources in the form of solar heat, can be used as an alternative to electricity generation by using a power plant tool in the form of solar panels. In certain areas there are still many who need a supply of electric power, for example in the Turun Aban Sungailiat Beach area, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. At that location there is no electric power supply at all, the fishermen at the Turun Aban Beach location often carry out the process of transporting catches at night conditions. Therefore, to meet their needs, these fishermen can use alternative power plants in the form of solar panels. This research examines the process of analyzing the performance of solar-powered power plants. The solar panel produces 115.28 watts of power in 1 day. The time required for charging the battery is 5.81 hours/day and the battery endurance time is 4.65 hours in 1 day.

Abstract

Setiap tahun perguruan tinggi melakukan penerimaan mahasiswa baru untuk menyaring calon mahasiswa baru yang berkualitas. Data penerimaan mahasiswa baru tersebut semakin bertambah setiap tahunnya dan hanya tersimpan sebagai arsip dalam basis data perguruan tinggi. Padahal data-data tersebut dapat diolah dengan menggunakan teknik data mining untuk mendapatkan informasi tertentu yang bermanfaat bagi perguruan tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan memanfaatkan data penerimaan mahasiswa baru untuk mengetahui pengaruh jalur penerimaan mahasiswa baru terhadap hasil akademik mahasiswa selama mengikuti perkuliahan dengan menggunakan algoritma K-Means Clustering. Data yang digunakan adalah data penerimaan mahasiswa baru pada Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknik Elektro, Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknologi Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, dan Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknik Mesin dan Manufaktur Polman Negeri Babel Tahun Akademik 2021/2022 dan data nilai semester ganjil TA 2021/2022. Jumlah data yang digunakan sebanyak 179 data dari Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknik Elektro, Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknologi Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, dan Program Studi Sarjana Terapan Teknik Mesin dan Manufaktur. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa K-Means Clustering mengelompokkan data menjadi 3 cluster di setiap kategori jalur penerimaan mahasiswa baru. Hasil cluster tersebut menunjukkan bahwa jalur SNMPTN menghasilkan 48% mahasiswa memiliki hasil akademik 10 terbaik di kelasnya, sementara itu 60% mahasiswa dari jalur MANDIRI menempati peringkat 21-30 di kelasnya.

Abstract

Fishing has transformed from a traditional livelihood into an increasingly popular hobby among people, involving various age groups and locations. Fishing rods, as the main tool in the fishing process, function to catch fish by reducing the load and providing lifting power. This study aims to explore the use of resam fiber as an alternative material in making fishing rods, considering the limitations and high costs of graphite rods. The rod manufacturing process uses the Hand lay-up technique, where the resam fiber undergoes alkalization with 5% NaOH for 1, 2, and 3 hours, and variations in the number of fibers of 5, 10, and 15 strands. The results showed that specimens with 15 strands of fiber soaked for 2 hours produced the highest average tensile value of 44.6 MPa and the highest bending value of 57.6 MPa. This study shows the potential of resam fiber as a strong and affordable material for making fishing rods, providing a better alternative to graphite rods available on the market.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain the appropriate composition in the production of alternative materials for fishing rods with fiber-resin reinforcement, as well as to determine the tensile and bending test results for the alternative material to be used as fishing rods. This study uses a full factorial method to determine the number of spesimens to be made, with variations in fiber-resin composition: the number of fibers used is 5, 10, and 15 strands, with a resin-to-catalyst ratio of 50:1 and drying times of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. Tensile strength tests were performed on 9 spesimens with 3 replications, and bending tests were conducted on 9 spesimens with 3 replications per spesimen, resulting in a total of 54 spesimens tested. Based on the best tensile test results, the spesimen with 15 strands of fiber soaked for 2 hours in a 5% NaOH solution achieved a tensile strength of 46.2 MPa, while the lowest tensile strength was obtained from the spesimen with 5 strands of fiber soaked for 2 hours, which was 19.9 MPa. The average tensile test results showed a maximum value of 38.4 MPa

Abstract

In order to meet the needs and desires of human life, science and technology have experienced rapid progress. Science and technology have developed in various aspects of life. Technological progress has also occurred in composite materials which are still being researched. Particle board is an artificial board made by pressing industrial waste from plantations, forestry, and agriculture together with organic adhesives. Low-quality wood waste products that may contain cellulose and lignin, such as sawdust, twigs, turning residues, and others, can be utilized. In this study, which was carried out using the direct experimental method. The parameters used were mesh 10, 20, and 30 with volume fractions of 60%: 40%, 70%: 30%, and 80%: 20%. In this study, the results of the largest impact strength were found in the volume fraction of 60%:40% on mesh 30 with a result of 16.34 J/m2 and the smallest impact value was found in the volume fraction of 70%:30% on mesh 10 of 9.28 J/m2 where this value does not meet the SNI-03-2105-2006 standard for making particle boards.

Abstract

Plastic plays an important role in everyday life, especially as food and beverage packaging. However, uncontrolled use of plastic causes environmental problems, with plastic waste in Indonesia reaching 64 million tons per year. This study aims to utilize plastic bottle waste as a material for making 3D filaments, which can reduce the amount of plastic waste and support recycling. Data collection involves identifying problems, determining machine components following the stages in the VDI 2222 method. From the results of the experiment in determining the optimal size of cutting plastic bottles, namely a width of 9 mm and a thickness of 0.37 mm. Before making filaments, plastic bottles must be cleaned and heated to remove motifs that can affect the quality of the filament.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of machine temperature on the process of making 3D printing filament from recycled plastic water bottles on filament quality, focusing on tensile testing as the main mechanical parameter. The filament produced from recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottles is used in 3D printing, representing an approach to reduce plastic waste. The filament-making machine's temperature is considered a significant variable that can influence the mechanical properties of the produced filament, including tensile strength. In this study, the Taguchi L4 method was employed, resulting in 12 test specimens with varying machine temperatures (210°C and 220°C), pulling speed (18 RPM and 24 RPM), nozzle temperature (260°C), bed temperature (90°C), print speed (50%), and infill density (107.1%). The results showed that the optimum outcome was achieved in the third experiment, with a combination of 220°C machine temperature and 18 RPM pulling speed, with an average tensile strength of 59.6 MPa. This study contributes to optimizing the process parameters for making 3D printing filaments from plastic water bottles.

Abstract

Technological advancements also happen in composite materials, which are still being studied today. Particleboard is a manufactured board created by pressing industrial waste from plantations, forestry, and agriculture together with organic adhesives. Low-quality wood waste products that may contain cellulose and lignin, such as sawdust, twigs, lathing residue, and others, can be used. The PVAc polymer was subjected to temperatures of 90°C, 100°C, and 110°C in this work, which employed a direct experimental method. The parameters used were mesh 10, 20, and 30 with a volume fraction of 60%: 40%, 70%: 30%, and 80%: 20%. In this study, the results of the largest impact strength were found in the volume fraction of 60%:40% on mesh 30 with heating at 90°C for 15 minutes amounting to 16.34 J/m2, and the smallest impact value was found in the volume fraction of 70%:30% on mesh 10 with heating at 100°C amounting to 9.28 J/m2, where these values do not meet the SNI-03-2105-2006 standard for making particle boards.
