Abstract

This study seeks to analyze the price fluctuations of strategic food items, specifically rice and cayenne pepper, in NTT Province, and to examine the correlation between these price changes and the farmer exchange rate in the region. Fluctuations in the prices of food goods in substantial volumes can significantly impact the inflation rate. The study that was conducted made use of secondary data, which was collected from the NTT Provincial Central Statistics Agency. These data were in the form of a time series. The coefficient of variation and multiple linear regression analysis were two of the analytical methodologies that were used. The price of cayenne pepper undergoes substantial fluctuations over time. The price of rice and NTP exhibit a significant positive correlation, indicating that an increase in rice prices is associated with an increase in NTP, consistent with the positive coefficient observed in the regression equation. This research suggests that the government should address fluctuations in rice and cayenne pepper prices by enhancing production and effectively managing supply and demand, thereby improving income and welfare.

Abstract

Abstract

Bananas are planted almost evenly throughout the territory of Indonesia, including in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). One of the potential areas of NTT that produces a lot of Kepok bananas is Sikka Regency, especially Paga District. Market structure is one indicator to analysis the level of competition and marketing efficiency. This study aims to analyze the structure of the Kepok market in Paga District, Sikka Regency, involving 45 respondents of banana farmers and ten intermediate traders (between islands). Analysis of the banana market structure uses CR4, HHI, and GR to find the level of market concentration, the barrier to entry, market information, and product differentiation. The results found that in selling banana, banana farmers are at a low concentration level dealing with traders with high concentration levels. Judging from the entry barriers, undifferentiated market, and product information shows that the Kepok banana market is classified as an oligopsonistic imperfect market. In this condition, the farmer is only a price taker, while the price is determined by the trader (price maker). Consequently, the dependence of Kepok banana farmers on intermediary traders is very high, so the hopes of farmers to get a reasonable income have not been achieved. Farmers and trader’s marketing institutions need to regulate market mechanisms to be more efficient. There is a fair distribution among marketing institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of social media in agricultural extension to improve farmers' knowledge of rice cultivation techniques, as well as to identify the obstacles faced. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving 38 farmers selected using purposive sampling. The results show that the most commonly used social media platforms are WhatsApp and Facebook (100%), followed by YouTube (78.9%). WhatsApp is considered the most effective because it supports direct communication between farmers and extension workers. Facebook is used but deemed less practical due to its entertainment-focused content. YouTube is helpful for extension videos but limited by internet data constraints. The main obstacles in using social media are the limited financial ability to purchase internet data and weak internet access in some areas.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of primary schools in developing a School-Based Food Independence Model as a local contribution to the Free Nutritious Meal Program and efforts to accelerate stunting reduction. The program was implemented in Wee Pangali Village, Tambolaka District, Southwest Sumba Regency, involving teachers, students, and parents. The implementation methods included nutrition education, training on transforming school yards into productive food gardens, and simulation of integrating harvests into balanced meal programs for students. The activities also covered nutrition literacy sessions and simple entrepreneurship training based on school production outputs. The results indicate increased participants’ understanding of balanced nutrition and healthy diets, the establishment of school food production units through vegetable gardens and catfish ponds, and strengthened school self-reliance in providing nutritious food ingredients. This program demonstrates that the School-Based Food Independence Model is an effective community-based innovation to improve food security, nutrition literacy, and stunting prevention in rural areas.
