Abstract

Corn marketing channels help farmers to convey persuasive messages to consumers to buy corn. Marketing channels help estimate the amount of demand for corn, making it easier for farmers to prepare corn orders. This research aims to determine the corn marketing channels in the research area, the magnitude of corn marketing costs in the research area, the share margin of corn marketing channels in the research area, and the efficiency of corn marketing in the research area. The research location was purposively selected in Anaengge Village, Kodi Sub-district, Southwest Sumba District. This village was chosen because it is one of the areas that produces corn in Southwest Sumba District. The research took place from June to August 2023. The results of the research show that the marketing channels in the research area consist of two channels. The first marketing channel goes from farmers to collecting traders and then to the factory. The second marketing channel goes from farmers to small agent traders, then to collecting traders (large agents), and finally to the factory. The marketing cost in Channel I is Rp. 176, which includes transportation, labor, ropes, and drying costs for the collecting trader (large agent). In Channel II, the marketing cost is Rp. 249, which includes transportation, drying, labor, and ropes. The share margin obtained in Channel I is 90.9% with a marketing cost of Rp. 5,176/kg. The share margin obtained in Channel II is 83.33% with a marketing cost of Rp. 5,219/kg. The efficiency value of Channel I is 3.21%, falling into the category of 0-33%, which means that Channel I is an efficient marketing channel. The efficiency value of Channel II is 4.15%, also falling into the category of 0-33%, indicating that Channel II is an efficient marketing channel.

Abstract

Observation of food and non-food expenditure patterns of families in semi-arid areas, East Nusa Tenggara Province is important, in order to evaluate the economic welfare of families. The focus of this research is to compare expenditure patterns between families who are in pre-prosperous conditions. A pre-prosperous family refers to a family with a low level of economic welfare or below the poverty line, while a prosperous family is a family that has a higher level of economic welfare and is sufficient to meet their basic needs. The research used 100 respondents consisting of 50 pre-prosperous families and 50 respondents from prosperous families. The data were analyzed using Chi Square to see differences in food and non-food expenditure patterns between the two levels of welfare. This research found that in underprivileged families the expenditure pattern for food was greater, namely 56.39%, compared to non-food expenditure of 43.61%. In a prosperous family, expenditure on food is greater, namely 56.75%, compared to non-food expenditure of 43.25%. This shows that the largest proportion of expenditure in both families is for food. However, there is a tendency that higher family income will increase non-food spending, even though it is relatively small. The various types of food and non-food consumed by pre-prosperous and prosperous-1 families show the same pattern. However, the proportions are different in the pre-prosperous and prosperous-1 family groups following differences in income. The variety of types of food and non-food commodities available in the Semiringkai area is relatively limited, because agricultural products are seasonal and economic activities have not yet been developed. It is necessary to develop community empowerment in accordance with regional potential for business diversification and build the community's local economy.

Abstract

Abstract

This study seeks to analyze the price fluctuations of strategic food items, specifically rice and cayenne pepper, in NTT Province, and to examine the correlation between these price changes and the farmer exchange rate in the region. Fluctuations in the prices of food goods in substantial volumes can significantly impact the inflation rate. The study that was conducted made use of secondary data, which was collected from the NTT Provincial Central Statistics Agency. These data were in the form of a time series. The coefficient of variation and multiple linear regression analysis were two of the analytical methodologies that were used. The price of cayenne pepper undergoes substantial fluctuations over time. The price of rice and NTP exhibit a significant positive correlation, indicating that an increase in rice prices is associated with an increase in NTP, consistent with the positive coefficient observed in the regression equation. This research suggests that the government should address fluctuations in rice and cayenne pepper prices by enhancing production and effectively managing supply and demand, thereby improving income and welfare.

Abstract

This research aims to determine price fluctuations and how the prices of shallots and bird's eye chilies affect the Farmers' Exchange Rate (FER). The data used are secondary data in the form of shallot and bird's eye chili prices from 2019-2023 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of East Nusa Tenggara Province. Price fluctuations are measured using the coefficient of variation, while the impact of shallot and bird's eye chili prices is analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that shallot prices are more homogeneous than bird's eye chili prices, with a coefficient of variation of 19.80%, while bird's eye chili prices are more heterogeneous with a coefficient of variation of 22.63%. Overall, changes in shallot and bird's eye chili prices significantly affect the farmers' exchange rate, with the adjusted R2 determination coefficient indicating that 12.5% of the variation in the farmers' exchange rate can be explained by changes in shallot and bird's eye chili prices. However, when analyzed partially, it was found that only the price of shallots has a significantly negative effect on the farmers' exchange rate, while changes in bird's eye chili prices do not significantly affect the farmers' exchange rate. The significant negative value between shallot prices and the farmers' exchange rate indicates that the selling prices of shallots and bird's eye chilies are lower than the input prices. The decline in the farmers' exchange rate can indicate that farmers experience a decrease in purchasing power, which also reduces their welfare. The role of the East Nusa Tenggara government is needed to provide shallot and bird's eye chili seeds to encourage farmers to increase the production of these crops, which can reduce the supply from outside the region. This is aimed at lowering input prices and obtaining higher selling prices.

Abstract

Drip irrigation can be the right choice to overcome the problem of drought, especially in the growth of fruit and vegetable crops during the long dry season, because long dry seasons cause the land to have little water supply. This research was carried out in East Penfui Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency from March to April. The aim is to understand the process of community empowerment in implementing drip irrigation technology to increase horticultural crop production. This research is a qualitative research. The reason for choosing this technology is because this place still lacks water, and the Bethesda farming group has used drip irrigation with green energy (solar energy). The data collection method uses in-depth interviews. The data analysis used is the Miles and Huberman Interactive model. This data processing is carried out interactively and continues continuously until completion at a certain stage, so that the data obtained is saturated. The results of the research in empowering drip irrigation technology in the Bethesda farmer group were that the following process was carried out: 1) socialization about drip irrigation, 2) techniques for making drip irrigation, 3) selection of soil type, 4) selection of plant types, 5) determination of the use of irrigation technology drip, 6) preparation of funds, 7) labor, 8) farmer field school (SLP) regarding drip irrigation. The community enthusiastically responded well and agreed to the installation of this drip irrigation technology system because it could help them overcome the problem of water shortages. The group members understand the benefits of drip irrigation and are skilled in installing irrigation hoses, installing irrigation pipes, spreading mulch and of course can become more skilled in planting horticultural plants.
