Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic non-infectious disease with complications such as diabetic foot, which has the potential for amputation if left untreated. Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is a behavior-based theory that can be applied to DM patients including foot care to minimize risk. Some studies related to TPB particularly about physical activity and diet have been explored, however, studies on foot care are still lacking. Objective: This study aims to apply the Theory of Planned Behavior (Intentions, Attitudes, Subjective Norms and Behavioral Control) on the patient's foot care. Methods: This was a cross sectional descriptive study. There were 93 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM recruited at 9 public health centers (Puskesmas) using accidental sampling on April 2018. TPB-based foot care questionnaire from the IWGDF (International Working Group on Diabetic Foot) Diabetic Foot guidelines was used. Data were analyzed in the form of frequency distribution. Results: Of the total number of respondents, 25 males and 68 females with average age of 53.05 ± 8.04 years, approximately 87.1% of them have the intention to wear footwear according to size. The majority of patients think that washing feet every day is a form of good and positive practice. They also agreed that the family expects the patient to examine the presence of bone / joint protrusions independently and believes that monitoring the foot deformities performed by other DM patients is very important as well as having control that the patient can check for signs of boils in the legs and there is a high likelihood of blisters / sores if the socks used are not suitable. Conclusion: The majority of respondents have good intentions, positive attitudes, social support and behavioral controls for foot care.

The correlation test was made using a Spearman rank test. This study suggested a moderate relationship between knowledge about Covid-19 and mental health of workers (p-value) =0.001<=0.05, correlation coefficient=0.443 anda weak relationship between attitudes about Covid -19 and mental health (p-value) = 0.018 < = 0.05 correlation coefficient value=0.294). There is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes about Covid-19 with the mental health of nurses. It is suggested, particularly to the local Hospital of South east Sulawesi, tomake a policy to improve the mental health status of nurses.

Abstract

Background: The CERDIK program (Check, Eat, Regular exercise, Drugs, Insulin injection, and Control blood glucose) is a key self‑management strategy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). However, patient adherence remains suboptimal in many primary health care settings. Objective: To identify family support, diabetes knowledge, and motivation as factors associated with CERDIK behavior among T2DM patients at Puskesmas Moramo. Methods: A cross‑sectional study was conducted in May 2024 among 42 T2DM patients attending Puskesmas Moramo. Participants were recruited by consecutive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires for family support, diabetes knowledge, motivation, and CERDIK behavior (Cronbach’s α = 0.82–0.90). Spearman’s rank correlation was performed in SPSS v26 with α = 0.05.Results: The mean age was 57.3 ± 8.5 years; 58.3% were female. Good CERDIK behavior was observed in 24 (57.1%) patients. Family support was moderately correlated with CERDIK behavior (ρ = 0.483; p = 0.001). Diabetes knowledge (ρ = 0.395; p = 0.008) and motivation (ρ = 0.317; p = 0.035) also showed significant positive correlations with CERDIK behavior. Conclusion: Family support, diabetes knowledge, and motivation are significant factors influencing CERDIK behavior in T2DM patients at Puskesmas Moramo. Interventions should integrate family involvement, targeted education, and motivational enhancement to improve self‑management and glycemic outcomes.

Abstract

Background: The sudden shift to online learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic significantly impacted the educational landscape, especially for elementary school children. This study focused on understanding how this transition influenced the stress levels experienced by students at SDN 78 Kendari.Purpose: to investigate the correlation between online learning and the stress levels experienced by elementary school children amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically at SDN 78 Kendari. Methods: A correlation research design was employed, targeting students in grades 4-6, totaling a population of 204 individuals at SDN 78 Kendari. The study utilized a purposive sampling technique to select a sample size of 67 participants. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Spearman's rho test to establish the relationship between online learning and stress levels. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between online learning and stress levels at SDN 78 Kendari, denoted by a P-Value of 0.048. The statistical analysis demonstrated a negative coefficient number of -0.242. This negative correlation implies that increased engagement in online learning is associated with higher levels of stress among the students. Conclusion: The outcomes of this study indicate a noteworthy association between the frequency of online learning and elevated stress levels among elementary school children at SDN 78 Kendari. These findings emphasize the importance of considering the psychological impact of online education on young learners, urging the implementation of supportive measures to mitigate stress during remote learning situations.

Abstract

One of the efforts to prevent complications of diabetic neuropathy in diabetic patients is foot care such as washing the feet every day, drying and oiling them, examining the feet for foot ulcers and signs of pre-ulceration, and wearing well-closed footwear at home. or outside the house. In performing foot care, DM sufferers must have strong intentions and beliefs so that they can run it well. This study aimed to determine the factors related to the intention to perform foot care using the theory of planned behavior at the UPTD of the Poasia Health Center, Kendari City. This study used a correlation design with a cross-sectional study approach involving 32 samples. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data analysis using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that there was no relationship between attitudes (direct = 0.9, indirect = 0.11), subjective norms (direct = 0.058 and indirect = 0.165) and behavioral control (direct = 0.022 and indirect = 0.037) on the intention to perform foot care in Type 2 DM patients. Further research should examine respondents who have understood or understood the importance of DM foot care. It is recommended that respondents and families still need foot care daily to prevent wound complications.
