Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers efforts in improving reading literacy skills of grade III elementary school students in Blitar Regency. The background of this study is based on the low interest and ability of students in reading which is a challenge in fostering a culture of literacy in the Elementary School environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, with 10 third grade students as research subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, semi- structured interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that students' literacy skills were still relatively low, as indicated by the majority of students not having reached the complete category in understanding, concluding, and reflecting on reading. Efforts made by teachers include making reading a habit for 15 minutes every morning, providing a reading corner, and giving assignments to retell the contents of the reading. Supporting factors in the implementation of literacy include parental support, the active role of teachers, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include low motivation and interest in reading for students, the negative influence of gadgets, and lack of parental involvement. Thus, structured and consistent literacy activities are more effective in improving students' reading literacy skills, especially if supported by elaboration strategies and collaboration between the family and school environments.

Abstract

This study aims to produce Canva-based learning video media on the topic of welcoming puberty for fourth-grade elementary school students and analyze the level of validity and practicality of the developed media. This study applies the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects in this study involved two Islamic Religious Education teachers and 30 fourth-grade students. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The instruments used included validation assessment sheets from media experts and material experts as well as questionnaires to measure the practicality of the media based on teacher and student responses. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study show that the Canva-based learning video produced has a very high level of validity. This is indicated by the results of the assessment of media experts at 88.3% and material experts at 90%, both of which are in the "very valid" category. Meanwhile, the results of the practicality test obtained a percentage of 94.2% based on teacher responses and 92.4% based on student responses, so it is included in the "very practical" category. Thus, the Canva-based learning video on the topic of welcoming puberty can be declared valid, practical, and suitable for use as an alternative learning medium to support improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education learning in elementary schools. This research suggests that using Canva-based learning videos can be an alternative for teachers in delivering more engaging, interactive, and user-friendly lessons. This medium can also help students understand Islamic Religious Education materials, particularly those related to welcoming puberty. Keywords:Canva; Baligh Age; Islamic education; Learning Videos
