Abstract

Environmental Graphic Design for Sea World Ancol. Sea World Ancol is the first oceanarium in Indonesia, located within Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, and is very popular among the public. Between 2022 and 2023, the number of visitors increased rapidly, making the Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) system essential for navigating and conveying information to visitors. This research aims to identify issues and provide better design solutions for the EGD at Sea World Ancol. The methodology follows the design phases proposed by Calori and Vanden-Eynden, starting with the pre-design phase to collect and analyze data through observation, document studies, questionnaires, interviews, and literature reviews. The design phase includes the development of schematic concepts, design development, and documentation. Thus, this design project aims to produce a new EGD for Sea World Ancol that is effective in terms of graphics, information, and hardware systems.

Abstract

Abstract

After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Universitas Pelita Harapan’s Visual Communication Design Department started conducting hybrid courses. The hybrid course format is a new format implemented as a transition between online education during the pandemic and the soon-offline course. This research explores the effects of the hybrid course for lecturers and students who had conducted two years of online education. The data collection for this qualitative study is through interviews with the student and lecturers, observations of the offline and online classes, and class documentation studies. This research found that the lecturers and the students positively receive the hybrid course as an alternative format for education post-COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Over the past five years, numerous visual identity design projects have been carried out in Indonesia, reflecting the growing importance of this field. This systematic literature review aims to identify the data analysis methods commonly used in these design processes. Using Publish or Perish and Google Scholar databases, the review examined articles published in the past five years with the title "perancangan identitas visual." From an initial pool of 582 articles, 36 peer-reviewed publications were selected for analysis, as they were accessible and specifically mentioned data analysis methods used in visual identity design. The review found that the most commonly applied methods include SWOT analysis, creative briefs, and the 5W+1H framework. Based on these findings, it is recommended that designers employ a combination of these methods to enrich their analysis process. Additionally, the review suggests that future research focus on evaluating the effectiveness of these data analysis methods to improve visual identity design practices.

Abstract

This study is about the application of the mind mapping method done by a group of design students in the context of graphic design learning. Mind mapping is one of the thinking tools commonly used in the creative thinking process. The goal of this study is to analyze how the participants use this thinking tool and reflect upon its utility as a method applied during the divergent phase in the series of design process. The method used here is a case study, using mixed approaches of qualitative-descriptive and quantitative explanations to measure the qualitative aspects. Results show that the participants can do the mind mapping method, which essentially pertains to its functions, though not rigidly following the formal techniques taught by Buzan. Through comparing the mind maps produced by them with the grades they got for the exploration criteria of their design results, it’s yet to be concluded that the mind map quality can determine the quality of the resulting design.
