Abstract

Introduction : Wounds are defects of normal anatomical structures and functions. Injuries can occur because of physical, chemical, or biological trauma. Wound healing is a complex process involving many cells, cytokines, growth factors, proteases, and extracellular matrix (ECM) that work together to restore the integrity of the injured tissue. Virgin Coconut Oil is an oil saturated with medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), one of which is lauric acid. Based on our research, VCO has wound healing properties. Research conducted in vivo on rabbits and rats experienced an increase in collagen, fibroblast proliferation, and neovascularization which influenced accelerating wound healing. Objective : This study aims to determine the difference in the mean REEDA scale in abdominal incision wounds after obstetric / gynecology laparotomy with topical VCO and those without topical VCO.Material and methods : This study is an experimental research design with a randomized clinical trial that was conducted on 36 people divided into 2 groups (treatment and control). Post-obstetric / gynecology laparotomy patients were subjected to topical VCO application on the incision wound and the REEDA scale was calculated at 24, 48, and 72 hours post-surgery. Statistical analysis is using the Mann-Whitney test. Results : Age mean of the respondents in the treatment group was 32.28 ± 10.42 years old, while the untreated group was 30.5 ± 6.54 years old. The mean REEDA scale for abdominal incision wounds applied topical VCO at 24 hours was 3.17 ± 1.04, at 48 hours was 2.11 ± 1.08, and at 72 hours was 1.39 ± 0.85. The mean REEDA scale for abdominal incision wounds that were not treated with topical VCO at 24 hours was 3.83 ± 0.99, at 48 hours was 3.11 ± 1.37 and at 72 hours was 2.72 ± 1.41. The findings of the experimental analyses showed that there was no association with the use of topical VCO in surgical wounds on a 24-hour REEDA scale (p>0.05), there was a relationship between the use of topical VCO in surgical wounds on a 48-hour and 72-hour REEDA scale (p<0.05). In the care group, the mean REEDA scale decreased by 33.4 % from 24 to 48 hours and 34.1 % from 48 to 72 hours. Conclusion : There is a relationship with the use of topical VCO in post-abdominal incision wounds post obstetrics/gynaecology laparotomy with REEDA scale 48 hours and 72 hours post-surgery. The mean REEDA scale decreased by over 24 to 48 hours and 48 to 72 hours in the treatment group (who administered topical VCO in postoperative incision wounds). Keywords: VCO, REEDA scale, Wound healing

Abstract

Introduction: Maternal mortality is maternal death during pregnancy, childbirth, and 42 days after delivery. Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. There was an increase in MMR in Indonesia on 2012 compared to 2007 which is 228 per 100,000 population. There were 17 maternal deaths at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital throughout 2019. Delay in referral can cause death for both mother and infantObjectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between delay in referral and maternal mortality in obstetric emergencies that came to the emergency unit at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital, Padang. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional comparative study design conducted on 90 pregnant women who visited Dr. M. Djamil Padang Hospital from January - February 2021. All data were then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with appropriate statistical tests. Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 25.34 ± 5.99 years old with 12.21% of sample were nullipara, 21.27% primipara, 61.83% multipara, and 4.58% grande multipara. From the questionnaire, 54.3% were late to refer. From the medical records, it was found that in the group who died, 94.5% experienced a delay in referral and bivariate analysis showed a relationship between late referral and maternal mortality (p = 0.000).Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between late referral and maternal mortality at Dr. M. Djamil Central General Hospital PadangKeywords: Maternal Mortality Rate; late referrals; pregnant women

Abstract

Introduction: Lack of knowledge of mothers in recognizing danger signs during pregnancy is one of the factors for the high maternal mortality rate. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes with the behavior of pregnant women in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy in the city of Padang. Methods: This research using a cross sectional approach to 56 pregnant women at 3 Public Health Centers in Padang City from January 2022 to April 2022. To determine that relation, the chi-square test was used with 95% CI (α 0.05). Results: The results shows that most of the respondents who use the KIA book have a good knowledge (83%), have a positive attitude (89.3%) and behave appropriately (89.3%) and there is also a relationship between the level of knowledge and behavior. KIA book users in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy (P = 0.04) and the relationship between attitudes and behavior of pregnant women using KIA books in recognizing pregnancy danger signs (p = 0.001). The relationship between knowledge and attitudes with the behavior of KIA book users in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy(p-value0.001versus0.846). Conclusion: There is a relation between the level of knowledge and the behavior of KIA book users in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy, between attitudes and the behavior of pregnant women using KIA books in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy and attitudes have a more dominant influence than knowledge.

Abstract

Background: VIA screening is very suitable for developing countries such as Indonesia, because the technique is easy, simple, low cost/cheap, high sensitivity, fast and accurate for early detection of cervical cancer. The coverage of early detection in Indonesia is <5% so that many cases of cervical cancer are found to be at an advanced stage and often cause death in women. Methods: This study uses a mix-method study approach with a sequential exploratory approach. The research was carried out sequentially with qualitative methods first (interviews and FGDs), then continued with quantitative methods. In this study, the sampling technique used was multi-stage random sampling in 7 selected sub-districts.Results: The variable perception of vulnerability with a good perception of vulnerability have a 2.64 times greater risk of carrying out an VIA examination. In multivariate modeling, knowledge is the most dominant variable because it has the largest POR of 6.3, which means the N-Gain value is in the medium category with a fairly effective interpretation of the effectiveness of the module, namely an increase in knowledge of 63.86% after being given education using the OMPHE-VIA module. Conclusion: Based on the implementation of the OMPHE-VIA module, it was found that there was an increase in the average value of knowledge, before and after the education was given. It was also found that there was a significant difference in knowledge, and husband's support, construct between before and after the education was given using the OMPHE-VIA module.
