Abstract

The research was motivated by the development of ancient archipelago manuscripts which had not been widely enjoyed by academic reviewers. One of them is Qur’an Manuscript of Lamongan. This assumption is motivated by a statement stating that the Al-Qur’an in the archipelago has content in terms of text, namely written and in the same shape. The existence of Qur’an Manuscript manuscripts is not a problem and it is not even functioning. The primary data source uses Qur’an Manuscript manuscripts in the Sunan Drajat Lamongan Museum, and several other secondary sources that are related with the issue of the Mushaf and dhabt Al-Qur`an. Meanwhile, the data analysis method used is the structural analysis method, which describes and explains aspects of the work that produce comprehensive works. The results of this study show that the archaic archipelago manuscripts have similarities with the Indonesian Standard Mushaf from various aspects such as the affixing the punctuation of hamzah washal and hamzah qatha ‘, which are included in the breadfruit sign in the reading of izhar, idgham, ikhfa, iqlab in nun sakinah. Meanwhile, other punctuation marks have changed. The use of dhabt in Qur’an Manuscript Lamongan manuscripts from beginning to end experiences consistency, that is, the punctuation in the mushaf does not change shape. The existence of this ancient manuscript has several implications including: implications for the way of the Al-Qur’an, implications for interpretation, and implications that are informative. Such conditions are compiled from data generated from several well documented documentation. Meanwhile, if it is viewed from relevance, there is an inequality between Qur’an Manuscript Lamongan manuscripts and the Indonesian Standard Mushaf in the form of dots, i’rab (harakat rafa’, nashab, jar or jazem), naqish (less) or ziyadah (added) letters, tabdil (replacement letters or words), etc. So that it can force relevance will cause damage to the meaning in the reading of the Al-Qur`an.

Abstract

This article examines the historical development of qiraat Al-Qur'an in Indonesia using a socio-historical analysis approach. The article discusses the dynamics of the spread and development of qiraat from the time of the arrival of Islam in the 13th century to the contemporary era in 2023. The analysis was carried out based on primary literature studies sourced from classical qiraat books and secondary research documentation from Scopus indexed journals. The research also examines the role of qiraat expert figures in Indonesia as well as the development of qiraat teaching methods that are adapted to the local cultural context. The research results show that the qiraat tradition in Indonesia experienced a significant transformation along with the interaction between Islamic values and local culture, which in turn formed the variety of qiraat that is popular in the archipelago. It is hoped that these findings can fill the gap in literature regarding the history of qiraat in Indonesia and offer a new perspective for the development of religious studies in the future.

Abstract

The story of Prophet Yusuf (AS) in the Qur’an is one of the most systematic narratives depicting life’s trials—from betrayal and slander to authority. In the context of psychology, this narrative represents a profound model of spiritual resilience, relevant to contemporary mental health challenges. This study aims to analyze the aspect of spirituality in the story of Prophet Yusuf (AS) based on the interpretation of Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān by Sayyid Qutb, systematically linked with the five resilience factors proposed by Connor and Davidson. The research employs a qualitative library-based method with a thematic (maudhu’i) tafsir approach and psychological resilience framework. The focus is on mapping spiritual values expressed in Surah Yusuf and exploring how they activate the other four resilience factors: personal competence, self-control, trust in intuition, and adaptability. The findings reveal that spirituality serves as the central foundation big77 of Prophet Yusuf’s resilience, providing meaning, guiding moral choices, and strengthening psychological endurance at every stage of trial. Sayyid Qutb’s interpretation highlights a deep spiritual connection with Allah as the core source of strength. The study concludes that integrating classical Qur’anic exegesis with modern psychological theory offers a new approach to understanding Qur’anic resilience. Its main contribution lies in enriching thematic Qur’anic interpretation through a psychospiritual lens and fostering interdisciplinary integration between revelation and contemporary psychology.

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the impact of qirāʾah on Islamic law. This study also explains Ibn Ḥayyān's interpretation in interpreting the verse on usury so that it has an impact on Islamic law. This research is descriptive-analytic research using a literature study. This study describes the interpretation put forward by Abū Ḥayyān, which is then analysed by using qirāʾāt shādhdzah in interpreting legal verses, which is devoted to the verse that discusses usury. The findings of this study indicate that Abū Ḥayyān's interpretation of QS. al-Baqarah: 279-280 emphasises the compatibility between one verse and another, by understanding the causes of the revelation of the verse, and referring to the principle of al-ʿibrah bi-ʿumūm al-lafẓi lā bi-khuṣūṣ as-sabab. Differences in qirāʾah enrich the understanding of the verse linguistically. This study concludes that qirāʾāt shādhdhah can be used to support or strengthen legal understanding, thus adding depth to linguistic legal interpretation.

Abstract

K.H. Ahmad Sanusi, an early twentieth-century interpreter, wrote Raudhatu al-'Irfân fî Ma'rifati Al-Qur'an. In addition to being a prolific writer, he was well-known for his ability to argue and frequently served as a conflict arbitrator. Even in the political field, he entered the ranks of freedom fighters with his election as a member of BPUPKI. His activities and fiqh tendencies in his works encourage the writer to investigate how to interpret legal verses and the methodology of istinbath law in his tafsir. The author employs a descriptive analytical method in conjunction with a qualitative approach. Tafsir, which was also a form of contribution to the thoughts of K.H. Ahmad Sanusi on the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an in Indonesia, was written in the Pegon script, in Sundanese loma, and uses the ijmâlî method. Analysis of the use of the ijmâlî method with legal explanations in the form of pointers as a step to make it easy to understand, because this tafsir is not only taught in Islamic boarding schools, but it is also studied by the general public. As for the legal istinbath, the law is served instantly. By paying attention to the rules of tafsir and ushul fiqh, he refers to the books of classical tafsir. It occasionally displays the opinion of fiqh expert priests and judges Imam Shafi'i's opinion.

Abstract

The interpretation of legal verses in the Qur’an has traditionally emphasized qirāʾāt mutawātirah, often overlooking qirāʾāt shādhah, which hold significant interpretive potential that has not been fully utilized in Islamic legal exegesis. This article examines Abū Ḥayyān al-Gharnāṭī’s interpretation of QS al-Nisāʾ [4]:1 through the analytical framework of qirāʾāt shādhah as the primary instrument of study. The research employs a descriptive-analytical methodology, using tafsīr al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ as the principal source, supplemented by critical engagement with other classical tafsīr works for contextualization. Findings indicate that Abū Ḥayyān critically rejects the traditional narrative of Ḥawwāʾ’s creation from Ādam’s rib, and by referencing qirāʾāt shādhah, he affirms the ontological equality of men and women, both created from the same substance. Furthermore, the verse is interpreted as an ethical directive to maintain familial relationships and social cohesion, integrating theological, linguistic, and moral dimensions. This study demonstrates how the diversity of qirāʾāt can enrich legal exegesis, offering inclusive and progressive perspectives, while creating space for alternative readings that support gender-equitable and contextually grounded understandings of Islamic law. It contributes to the broader discourse on Islamic legal hermeneutics and highlights the importance of integrating neglected recitations to advance ethical, gender-conscious, and contextually relevant interpretations

Abstract

The interpretation of the Qur'an is a crucial element in understanding the meaning and message of its verses. However, in practice, differences in interpretation, or al-ikhtilaf fi at-tafsir, often occur among both early (salaf) and later (khalaf) scholars, and have existed even since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Al-ikhtilaf fi at-tafsir is divided into two main types: Disagreement that is reducible to a single meaning and Disagreement that is based on multiple meanings, each with its own forms and characteristics. This study uses a library research method and is qualitative in nature. The author found that As-Sa'di's method in interpreting verses containing al-ikhtilaf involves three approaches: not explaining the existence of a difference and choosing the opinion he deems correct; mentioning the difference without choosing one of the opinions; and explaining the difference, then selecting the opinion he deems correct. Meanwhile, Quraish Shihab uses two approaches: explaining the existence of a difference without choosing one of the opinions, and selecting the opinion he deems correct.
