Abstract

The hearing level of fishermen in the Lembeh Strait out of 11 fishermen, there are only 2 fishermen whose hearing is still normal. This is likely the effect of a plain exhaust modification and does not use a muffler. The muffler acts as a sound transmission damper when the exhaust gases exit the engine. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) redesign of the engine exhaust of the pakura boat; 2) analyze the relationship and influence of rotation per minute with laboratory-scale noise levels; and 3) analyze the relationship and influence of rotation per minute with field-scale noise levels. The method used in this research is experimental laboratory and field, comparising one control group and three treatment groups. The results obtained are that there are three types of redesigned exhausts equipped with mufflers. The most effective exhaust for reducing noise levels is exhaust type B, with a range of values between 79-93 dB in laboratory scale and 90-102 dB in field scale.

Abstract

Bahan bakar merupakan salah satu elemen penting yang sangat berpengaruh dan menunjang keberhasilan kegiatan penangkapan ikan serta menjadi bahan vital bagi sebuah mesin. Namun penggunaan bahan bakar yang semakin meningkat juga akan berpengaruh pada biaya operasional, khususnya pada nelayan. Dengan adanya pengunaan mesin yang tingkat konsumsi bahan bakarnya boros atau berlebihan, maka biaya operasional akan semakin melambung atau meningkat. Hal ini akan berpengaruh kepada penghasilan atau pendapatan yang diperoleh nelayan. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan kajian terhadap knalpot mesin yang digunakan nelayan, agar dapat membantu menurunkan tingkat konsumsi bahan bakar. Tujuan yang dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis tingkat konsumsi bahan bakar minyak terhadap redesain kenalpot perahu pakuira 13 HP. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode eksperimental lapangan dengan membandingkan 4 tipe knalpot dengan 5 sekala pengukuran RPM yang berbeda. Lima tingkat RPM tersebut adalah pada RPM 1400, 2150, 2680, 2800, dan 3000. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik parametrik. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah terdapat hubungan dan pengaruh antara RPM dan tingkat konsumsi bahan bakar minyak, dimana semakin tinggi RPM maka tingkat konsumsi bahan bakar akan semakin meningkat dan sebaliknya. Knalpot B merupakan jenis knalpot yang paling baik untuk mengurangi tingkat konsumsi bahan bakar minyak pada tingkat RPM dibawah 2500.

Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is vital in high-risk environments, especially on research vessels conducting deep-sea sampling operations. The increased risk of accidents in maritime research requires an urgent focus on implementing specialized OHS systems. This study aims to analyze the application of OHS during deep-sea sediment sampling on the KM Madidihang 03 vessel. The research employs a descriptive design using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method. Data were collected through direct observation during operations, utilizing modified Box Core and Gravity Core equipment for sediment collection. The hydraulic crane and tension meter were used to ensure the safe operation of these instruments. Data were analyzed to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures. The results indicate that equipment failure, such as crane malfunction and cable breakage, poses the highest risk, necessitating regular equipment maintenance and safety training. The study recommends enhancing OHS procedures, including stricter supervision and crew training, to mitigate accidents and improve safety on research vessels. Future studies should focus on developing advanced safety protocols tailored to modified deep-sea research operations.

Abstract

Parameter kualitas air yang memengaruhi kelangsungan hidup rajungan mencakup suhu, salinitas, pH, dan oksigen terlarut. Kekurangan oksigen dapat menurunkan kinerja metabolisme serta daya tahan tubuh rajungan. Rendahnya kadar oksigen terlarut dapat berakibat fatal bagi rajungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang aerator portabel yang mampu secara efisien dan efektif meningkatkan kadar oksigen terlarut (DO). Penelitian dilaksanakan dari bulan September hingga Desember 2024 di Workshop Kampus Politeknik AUP, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta. Metode yang digunakan adalah engineering research untuk merancang dan menciptakan aerator portabel yang efektif dan efisien dalam meningkatkan kadar DO. Kombinasi aerator terbaik adalah pompa celup dan nozel venturi, yang dapat meningkatkan kadar DO hingga 7,48 mg/L dengan konsumsi listrik yang efisien sebesar 5,7A. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aerator portabel memiliki pengaruh signifikan dalam meningkatkan kadar DO (p=0.000 < 0.05).

Abstract

Preserving sustainability of squid populations, applying technologies that support reproduction process of squids are essential. One promising technology that can be developed is using attractors as spawning media. The development of attractor technology must be carried out continuously, focusing on both design and the materials used. This study aims to design squid attractor using ijuk fiber biocomposites, expected to produce stronger and more environmentally friendly materials. The research methodology applies a comparative design approach analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the constructed squid attractor demonstrates good stability and durability in aquatic environments while utilizing eco-friendly materials. Applying ijuk fiber as a substitute for fiberglass (mat and roving) in the attractor design has been successfully implemented. Therefore, the use of ijuk fiber as an alternative material for squid attractor construction is recommended as an innovative solution to support the sustainability of marine ecosystems. Abstract

The use of light attractors in light fishing is limited by bright moon phase, turbid water, large waves, strong currents, and lamp power regulations. Bait attractors are expected to optimize catch and address issues with boat lift nets. This study examines the use of bait attractors along with light attractors on boat lift nets, focusing on their impact on catch yield and species composition. Conducted in May 2024 over 12 trips using experimental fishing, treatments included green mussel attractors, sardinella attractors, and no attractors (control). The total catch over 12 trips was 2,480.69 kg. Boat lift nets with green mussel attractors produced 870.88 kg (average 72.57 kg ± 44.94), with sardinella attractors 839.49 kg (average 69.96 kg ± 44.87), and without attractors 770.32 kg (average 64.19 kg ± 45.48). A total of 23 species were caught, with green mussel attractors capturing 20 species (average 7.8), sardinella attractors capturing 20 species (average 7.9), and no attractors capturing 17 species (average 7.3). The main catch to by-catch ratio was 91.82% : 8.18% (sardinella attractors), 90.26% : 9.74% (green mussel attractors), and 87.46% : 12.54% (no attractors). Results indicate bait attractors do not significantly affect catch weight compared to no bait attractors. Key words: bait attractors, boat lift nets, catch yield, composition, Jakarta bay waters

Abstract

Traps is a common fishing tool used by traditional fishers to catch demersal fish and reef fish. However, there are several problems related to the use of bubu in fishing. This study aims to test the effectiveness of knock-down traps in catching demersal fish and analyze the catch. This study compared two types of traps that have different mouth-opening sizes. This study used a Randomized Group Design (RAK) with two other treatments based on the size of the mouth opening. The fishing process was carried out with as many as 9 replicates or 9 trips. The research was conducted at three locations with different seabed characteristics. Bubu was installed for a month, then observations were made on the type, size, and weight of fish caught. The results showed that in both gear designs, there was a real effect on catches. The impact of Bubu with Bubu mouth opening size A is more effective in catching demersal fish than Bubu B. In Bubu A there were 131 fish caught weighing 71.7 kg, while Bubu B only produced 74 fish weighing 28.8 kg. There were 11 species of demersal fish caught with a greater variety of species in Bubu A, namely 11 species of fish, and in Bubu B as many as 6 species of fish. Abstract

Ghost fishing adalah fenomena yang memiliki dampak negatif bagi ekosistem laut. Salah satu penyebab maraknya fenomena ghost fishing adalah alat penangkap ikan yang tersangkut dan hanyut di dasar perairan, sehingga mengakibatkan ikan terjerat pada alat tangkap rusak dan mengundang datangnya predator yang akan memakan ikan kecil dan ikut terjerat didalamnya kemudian mati. Pentingnya sosialisasi terkait ghost fishing akan meningkatkan kesadaran nelayan untuk dapat mencegah ghost fishing dengan melakukan beberapa upaya penting. Maka dari itu, pengabdian kepada masyakarat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan, pengetahuan dan wawasan nelayan tentang dampak dan pencegehan ghost fishing di laut. Edukasi ini dilaksanakan di wilayah Pelabuhan Perikanan Cikidang, Kelurahan Babakan, Kecamatan Pangandaran, Kabupaten Pangandaran. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode pendekatan community development dan konsep pendekatan teori. Peserta kegiatan merupakan nelayan penuh yang melakukan aktivitas penangkapan dan melakukan bongkar muat di sekitar Pelabuhan Perikanan Cikidang. Hasil edukasi ini diawali dengan kegiatan survei dana wawancara kepada kelompok nelayan peserta kegiatan ini. Kemudian, pelaksanaan edukasi dilaksanakan dengan konsep pendekatan yaitu dengan kelas teori. Materi yang disampaikan adalah pengertian tentang ghost fishing, penyebab adanya fenomena ghost fishing, sumber sampah laut, dampak ghost fishing bagi ekosistem laut dan cara pencegahannya. Hasil monitoring dan evaluasi menyebutkan bahwa nelayan mendapatkan banyak manfaat dalam menggunakan alat tangkap baru dan memberikan wawasan jkepada nelayan tentang cara mencegah ghost fishing di laut. Persepsi nelayan disekitar PP Cikidang  menjadi positif dan memiliki pemahaman yang baik tentang pentingnya pencegahan ghost fishing dalam upaya menjaga kelestarian laut dan mendukung keberlanjutan ekosistem pesisir.
