Abstract

Solving the unit commitment problem is an important task in power system operation for deciding a balanced power production between various types of generating units under technical constraints and environmental limitations. This paper presents a new intelligent computation method, called the Thunderstorm Algorithm (TA), for searching the optimal solution of the integrated economic and emission dispatch (IEED) problem as the operational assessment for determining unit commitment. A simulation using the IEEE-62 bus system showed that TA has smooth convergence and is applicable for solving the IEED problem. The IEED’s solution is associated with the total fuel consumption and pollutant emission. The proposed TA method seems to be a viable new approach for finding the optimal solution of the IEED problem.

Abstract

This research is triggered by one of mathematics learning objectives in Senior High School which is about understanding mathematics concept. Based on the result of the observation and the conducted interview with mathematics teachers, it is said that on learning Combinatorica, students are always less of ability to solve the problem, sometimes students’ answer only focus on what is being asked. The purpose of this reasearch is to describe students’ relational understanding in solving problems for  FI students based on the gender. The subjects of this research are Senior High School students having field independent cognitive style in Malang and have been choosen randomly. The subjects consist of two students, a boy and a girl. The instruments needed in this research are sheet of GEFT test, sheet of Combinatorica questions, and interview sheet. The result of this research states that FI girl student has ability on relational understanding as the same as the FI boy students has. But the process in solving problem made by the boy student is likely similar to the accurate process in solving problems.

Abstract

The aim of this training was to provide students with knowledge in hydroponic plant cultivation. The background to this training was students' lack of knowledge in hydroponic plant cultivation and agricultural land was low. The participants involved in this training were grade 11 students of SMA Negeri 2 Negeri Katon, Pejambon Village, Negeri Katon District, South Lampung Regency, Lampung. The training implementation method included three stages, namely the socialization and counselling stage, the activity implementation stage and the reflection stage with training activity steps starting from socialization to students, making media charts from plastic bottles and cups, sowing plant seeds, continued with the implementation of hydroponic plant cultivation. The reflection stage was carried out after the implementation process by looking at the shortcomings and obstacles faced by students so that it can be carried out continuously and developed. This training is expected to be developed by students and teachers in order maintain the school environment, systems for utilizing school grounds and the surrounding environment, as well as increasing the creativity of students at grade XI in cultivating plants, especially vegetables, to meet daily nutritional needs.

Abstract

Abstract

This community-based service initiative explores an educational and environmental intervention conducted in Alas Gede, Ngingit Village, Tumpang District, Indonesia, focusing on the transformation of plastic waste into ecobricks by elementary school students. As plastic pollution escalates into a critical global environmental challenge, this program presents an integrative solution by combining environmental education with practical waste management skills. Ecobricks—plastic bottles densely packed with clean, non-organic waste—serve as a low-cost, scalable, and ecologically responsible alternative for repurposing plastic waste into usable construction materials. The uniqueness of this initiative lies in its pedagogical approach that merges hands-on learning, environmental awareness, and community empowerment at the grassroots level. The program not only enhances students’ cognitive and behavioral competencies regarding recycling practices but also strengthens collective environmental stewardship within the village. This article delineates the step-by-step implementation of the program, identifies operational challenges, and evaluates its multi-dimensional impacts on both the educational environment and the broader community. Findings suggest that integrating ecobrick production into school-based environmental curricula fosters sustainable behavior, promotes participatory waste management, and has potential for replication in other rural contexts facing similar ecological issues

Abstract

Learning motivation is one of the crucial factors that influence students' success in understanding subject matter, including mathematics which is often considered challenging. This study aims to examine the level of student motivation in learning mathematics in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, identify various factors that influence learning motivation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the Independent Curriculum itself. Using a qualitative descriptive approach through interview and observation methods, this study found that most students showed learning motivation at a moderate level, while only a few were at a high or low level of motivation. Various factors that influence learning motivation consist of internal and external factors. The implementation of the Independent Curriculum is considered to provide flexibility for students with high motivation, but has not fully supported students with low motivation due to limited teacher training and learning resources. The conclusion of this study is that the Independent Curriculum has a great opportunity to increase student learning motivation if supported by the implementation of personal learning strategies, increasing teacher competence, and utilizing innovative learning technology.
