Abstract

This purpose of this study to improve EFL students' descriptive writing and their learning activity by using Carousel Feedback technique in secondary school. The subjects of this study were 26 students at Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif 09 Kotagajah. This enquiry was piloted in two cycles. Each sequence consists of four phases, planning, action, observation, and reflection. The material used in this research is a text description of public figures. The results showed that there were 84,6% of students passed the MMC in the second Post Test. Before the research was conducted, only 15,4% of students were able to pass the MMC. In addition, significant developments are able to be seen from the students' responses and teacher explanations. The students seem to be more effective during the learning course. Based Therefore, Carousel Feedback technique can be used to progress EFL students writing in descriptive manuscript

Abstract

Extensive listening is a way to practice listening skill thoroughly. Listening to various recordings, videos, and interviews on the same topic will help to get context in a real situation, and will help to learn more vocabulary. The objective of this research was to find out students’ perceptions in learning extensive listening by using cartoon movies. This study used a qualitative method. The research was done at SMK Trisakti Jaya Bandar Lampung for the 10th grade students (N=38). Data gathering was done by conducting observation, questionnaire and interview. The result showed that they agree learning English through extensive listening by using cartoon movies as the listening materials help them a lot to develop their listening skill. Based on the observations, questionnaires and interviews, it can be concluded that most of the students think that it is very helpful, and faster for them in learning English with extensive listening technique. Most students thought that learning extensive listening by using cartoon movies can be carried out in the learning process.

Abstract

English teaching and learning in the 21stcentury is demanded to be technology-based to balance demands in the digital age. In this digital age there are various ways of learning besides being in the classroom, one of which is through the use of e-learning, namely Google Classroom. The purpose of this study is 1) to reveal the design of English teaching and learning using Google Classroom for English Education Department Students of IAIN Metro, 2) to identify students’ responses toward the use of Google Classroom in English teaching and learning. This study is qualitative in the form of field research. English teaching and learning was carried out by implementing Google Classroom at the third semester students of English Education Department IAIN Metro. This research showed that Google Classroom can facilitate both students and lecturers in conducting English teaching and learning process more comprehensively. This is because both students and lecturers can provide learning materials, give questions, collect assignments, distribute assignments, and assess assignments anytime and anywhere. http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/aksara/v21i1.pp102-114

Abstract

Plastik banyak digunakan dalam berbagai macam kebutuhan hidup manusia, mulai dari bahan pembungkus makanan hingga keperluan bahan otomotif. Pengelolaan sampah merupakan masalah yang tak kunjung dapat diselesaikan sampai saat ini. Sampah plastik di Indonesia menjadi sumber utama penumpukan bobot sampah. Kegiatan Ecobrick ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesadaran dan kepedulian pada anak-anak yang ada di Desa Totokaton, Kecamatan Punggur, Kabupaten Lampung Tengah. Ecobrick merupakan salah satu upaya kreatif untuk mengelola sampah plastik dan berguna mengurangi pencemaran dan racun yang ditimbulkan dari penggunaan sampah plastik. Fungsi ecobrick bukan untuk menghancurkan sampah plastik melainkan untuk memperpanjang usia plastik-plastik tersebut dan bisa diolah menjadi sesuatu yang berguna yang bisa digunakan oleh masyarakat pada umumnya. Dalam melakukan pelatihan pembuatan ecobrick yang menjadi sasarannya yaitu anak-anak TPA di desa Totokaton. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pelatihan Ecobrick ini adalah meningkatnya pemahaman anak-anak TPA dalam mengelola sampah plastik dan meningkatnya motivasi dan kepedulian anak-anak untuk selalu menjaga kebersihan lingkungan. Kata kunci: Ecobrick, Pengelolaan Sampah, Sampah Plastik.

Abstract

Panti asuhan sebagai rumah bersama bagi anak asuhan, meskipuan ada berbagai problem panti harus mampu memberikan perlindungan dan pemenuhan sesuai ketentuan perundang-undangan. Apa yang menjadi hak anak asuh di panti asuhan SM? Bagaimana pihak panti asuhan memenuhi hak anak asuhnya. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif, data diperoleh secara langsung, kemudian dianalisa secara kritis. Hasilnya bahwa Panti Asuhan SM telah menjalankan fungsinya dengan baik tetapi perlu sinergi antara orang tua, keluarga, masyarakat dan negara agar supaya panti asuhan dapat menjalan fungsinya secara maksimal. Semua harus berperan dengan cara masing-masing, orang tua, keluarga, masyarakat harus tetap memberikan perhatian dan pembiayaan untuk anak yang berada di panti asuhan. Negara dapat menerbitkan regulasi dan memberikan bantuan untuk setiap kerja perlindungan anak.

Abstract

The research aims to (1) identify the cultural materials in ELT textbooks for middle school students; (2) analyze cultural elements that are presented in ELT textbooks. This English textbook entitle English on Sky was written by Mukarto, Widya Kiswara, Sujatmiko Bambang Santoso, and Josephine Sri Murwani. In this research, the researchers used qualitative methods with analysis techniques. In data collection, the researchers used documentation technique with the steps were 1) reading textbook; 2) identifying cultural content in the textbook as well as checking them based on the theory of Cortazzi and Jin; 3) classifying cultural-based content; 4) encoding the data and 5) interpreting data. The result showed that there were 72 cultural contents that exist in the ELT textbook from chapter one until thirteen. Based on the types of cultural contents including: 46 items of source cultures, 14 items of target cultures, and 12 items of international cultures. The elements of culture presented in this study are product, person, and practice. Elements of the product appeared 54 items, person 9 items, and practice 9 items. Therefore, the ELT textbook entitle English on Sky is very recommended and helpful for middle schools students to enhance their language skills, as well as improve their knowledge about culture.
