Abstract

Teaching English in rural areas remains several significant challenges. This study aimed to explore the challenges encountered by English teachers in South Sumatera, Indonesia when teaching in such environments. The research design employed for this investigation was qualitative, utilizing a case study approach. Two English language teachers from the specified region participated in this study. The research data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. Subsequently, the interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. This research revealed six distinct challenges faced by the teachers in teaching English. These challenges include: (1) inadequate infrastructure, (2) insufficient learning facilities, (3) inadequate learning resources, (4) low proficiency in English, (5) unfavorable teaching conditions, and (6) limited opportunities for teacher development. Addressing these challenges is crucial to create a positive environment for effective teaching and learning English in rural areas.

Abstract

This study utilized qualitative research with a case study design to investigate the difficulties encountered by EFL students in reading comprehension. Nine students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 (State Islamic Senior High School) Muara Enim in South Sumatra who met the research sampling criteria were selected using the purposeful sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews, and the results were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the majority of students experienced obstacles in reading comprehension, including a lack of vocabulary, a limited grasp of grammar, unfamiliarity with the topic content, an inability to employ reading strategies effectively, and unappealing reading materials. This exploration of specific obstacles that EFL students encounter in reading comprehension could serve as the foundation for the development of targeted strategies and interventions aimed at supporting the students in improving their reading skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk karakter peduli sosial peserta didik,) menganalisis strategi guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dalam membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik, serta menganalisis faktor yang pendukung dan penghambat guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dalam membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah jenis penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan sumber data yang terdiri dari dua macam yakni sumber data primer dan sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu, observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Sedangkan teknis analisis data meliputi: reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi data. Sedangkan teknik pengujian keabsahan data yakni triangulasi teknik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa karakter peduli sosial peserta didik terbagi menjadi dua. Pertama, sikap kepada sesama teman berupa berbagi makanan, meminjamkan alat tulis kepada teman, dan takziah ke rumah teman yang sedang tertimpa musibah. Kedua sikap kepada masyarakat sekitar berupa menggalang dana untuk korban bencana alam, berkunjung ke panti asuhan dan lain sebagainya. Selain itu, peserta didik tidak pilih-pilih untuk bersikap peduli dan peserta didik juga merasa senang saat membantu orang lain. Adapun strategi yang dilakukan guru pendidikan agama Islam dalam membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Negeri 3 Palembang adalah pembiasaan infaq secara sukarela, pemberian nasihat, motivasi dan keteladanan dari guru, mencantumkan serta menghubungkan materi ajar dengan karakter peduli sosial, serta program-program ekskul yang  baik agar dapat membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik. Kemudian faktor pendukung guru PAI dalam membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik adalah dibentukanya kepengurusan OSIS dan ROHIS, fasilitas sekolah yang cukup dan karakter peduli sosial dicantumkan pada RPP. Sedangkan faktor penghambat dalam membina karakter peduli sosial peserta didik adalah tidak semua peserta didik termotivasi untuk bersikap peduli sosial, kurangnya perhatian orang tua dan pengaruh media sosial serta Games Online.

Abstract

Learning to speak English is not easy. This study aimed at finding out 1) the personality of students of English Education Study Program student teachers and 2) the speaking challenges faced by the introverted student teachers at an English Education Study Program. This study used a mixed-method design. For the quantitative data, the samples were 98 students chosen by using purposive sampling. Meanwhile, for the qualitative data, there were 5 participants, and homogeneous sampling was the sampling technique. The data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and interviews. The result of the study was that 14 students had introverted personalities, and 84 students had extroverted personalities. Furthermore, the speaking challenges faced by introverted students were language components, the psychology of students, and the learning environment. This study can give a positive contribution to the students, teachers, and future researchers.

Abstract

The current technological development has made online learning an alternative for teachers and students to carry out instruction. One of the learning applications that is often used is Google Meet. This research was conducted to find out the students' perceptions toward the use of Google Meet for speaking activities at a private Islamic Senior High School (Madrasah Aliyah) in Palembang, South Sumatera. The study employed a qualitative research design, and the participants were twelve 11th-grade students from the science and social studies departments. Data were collected through interviews, which were recorded and transcribed. The findings of this research revealed that learning speaking through the Google Meet application was perceived negatively by the students, indicating its ineffectiveness in facilitating their speaking activities. Several views were identified: (1) using Google Meet decreased student engagement in speaking activities, (2) it did not create an enthusiastic learning atmosphere for speaking, (3) it reduced students' attention to learning speaking, and (4) it was unhelpful in improving the students' speaking skills. These implied that the use of Google Meet application was ineffective for English speaking activities. However, it could be used as a supplementary online English teaching media.

Abstract

This qualitative case study aimed to investigate teachers’ challenges and strategies in teaching English as a foreign language using a Plus curriculum, a self-designed curriculum that combines the national curriculum and the Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) curriculum. This study involved two English teachers at a private Indonesian Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic Senior High School) in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The research revealed several internal and external challenges encountered by the teachers when teaching English using this combined curriculum. Internal challenges included three aspects: teachers' abilities to utilize ICT in teaching, designing lesson plans, and enhancing students' learning motivation. External challenges included two aspects: managing limited time allocation and dealing with inadequate learning facilities. Despite these teaching challenges, the researchers identified several strategies employed by the teachers to overcome the challenges. These strategies include improving their practical knowledge in using ICT, tailoring teaching materials and methods with learning objectives, applying various motivational strategies, providing extra time for informal learning after school, and ensuring students’ access to necessary learning facilities and resources.

Abstract

When writing the descriptive text, the teachers found difficulties during the teaching process. This study aimed to determine teachers’ difficulties in teaching and writing descriptive texts. The participants were English teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Palembang who taught seventh graders using total sampling. This study used a qualitative method. Interviews were used to collect the data. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result of this study showed that (1) difficulties came from teachers themselves, such as difficulty in designing lesson plans and difficulty in utilizing learning media, (2) difficulties came from students,  consisting of a lack of understanding about the generic structure of descriptive text, lack of understanding about mechanical aspect of writing, lack of grammar knowledge, and  lack of about vocabularies knowledge,  (3) difficulties came from learning environment, consists of difficult to control the large class and limited teaching time in the class

Abstract

Dewasa ini, dunia pendidikan dihadapkan pada permasalahan perilaku peserta didik. Guru dihadapkan pada problematika siswa merokok di sekolah serta menonton bahkan menyebarkan video porno, dan berbicara kasar di depan guru. Bahkan siswa berperilaku tidak menghormati guru. Padahal guru ialah pewaris Nabi Muhammad yang kontinu mengajarkan kebaikan dan kebenaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk menganalisis tentang perilaku keagamaan siswa, strategi guru PAI dalam membina perilaku keagamaan siswa, dan faktor pendukung dan penghambat dalam membina perilaku keagamaan siswa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian lapangan (field research) dengan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Dalam penentuan informan, jenis teknik pemilihan informan yaitu criterion sampling, yang bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi yang sesuai dengan kriteria yang ditetapkan. Analisis data meliputi pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi, wawancara semistruktur, dan dokumentasi. selanjutnya reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat siswa yang belum memiliki kesadaran untuk melaksanakan shalat dzuhur berjamaah, BTA, dan setoran hafalan Al-Quran (tahfidz). Beberapa siswa belum memiliki adab yang benar didepan guru, siswa berani berbicara kasar didepan guru, menolak taat terhadap guru, dan kurang menghormati guru. Strategi guru PAI dalam membina perilaku keagaman siswa melalui pembiasaan shalat dzuhur berjamaah, BTA, dan setoran hafalan Al-Quran (tahfidz) dengan metode talaqqi. Faktor pendukung pembinaan keagamaan yaitu adanya support dari kepala sekolah dan keaktifan guru dalam kegiatan pembinaan. Faktor penghambat pembinaan keagamaan yaitu: pertama faktor keluarga. Orang tua mengkonsumsi narkoba, broken home, pola asuh diserahkan kepada orang lain, kurang perhatian dan pengawasan dari keluarga. Kedua faktor sekolah. Lingkungan pertemanan di sekolah dan membentuk kelompok serta ketidakkonsistenan kedisiplinan guru pengawas.

Abstract

This study aims to answer the needs in the learning process to be more effective through the development of teaching materials with the ADDIE model. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The ADDIE model involves five main stages: (1) Analysis, conducted through a needs analysis questionnaire and interviews; (2) Design, in the form of making flowcharts and storyboards; (3) Development, including validation by material, language, and teaching material design experts; (4) Implementation, with small and large scale trials through control and experimental classes; and (5) Evaluation, which focuses on revising and improving teaching materials. The feasibility test results show that the teaching materials developed have very good quality, with a percentage of design feasibility of 100% (Very valid), material feasibility of 95% (Very valid), and language feasibility of 97.5% (Very valid). In the effectiveness test of small-scale teaching materials, an average of 81.7% (Good) was obtained, while the large-scale trial obtained an average of 82.2% (Good). These results indicate that the teaching materials developed are effective and feasible to use in supporting the learning process.

Abstract

Hemodialisis (HD) merupakan pengobatan terpenting bagi pasien dengan penyakit ginjal stadium akhir. Hemodialisa dapat menyebabkan komplikasi salah satunya yaitu pada pernapasan pasien. Salah satu manajemen dengan memberikan latihan kaki Intradialitik exercise. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh latihan kaki Intradialitik exercise terhadap pernapasan pasien setelah melakukan tindakan hemodialisa. Metode penelitian menggunakan desain quasi expriment one group pretest-posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh responden yang sedang hemodialisa dengan jumlah 80 orang dan teknik pengambilan sampel sampling jenuh sebanyak 80 orang. Metode pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan analisa bivariat menggunakan chi-square. Hasil penelitian didapatkan mayoritas berusia 66-75 tahun, berjenis kelamin laki-laki, beragama Islam dan berpendidikan SMA. Pernapasan pasien sebelum dilakukan intervensi mandiri keperawatan mayoritas pasien mengalami Takipnea dan setelah dilakukan Intradialitik exercise pernapasan pasien menjadi normal serta Latihan kaki intradialiti Exercise mayoritas dilakukan seluruhnya sesuai dengan SOP kepada pasien dengan kategori baik. Berdasarkan hasil analisa data didapatkan hasil sig.(2-tailed) 0,00. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa adanya pengaruh latihan kaki intradialiti exercise terhadap pernapasan pasien yang menjalani hemodialisa.
