Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s growing older adult population is experiencing a rising burden of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Coastal populations face unique risks, including limited health service access, dependence on fisheries-based livelihoods, and dietary patterns high in salt and low in fresh produce. These factors may heighten vulnerability to T2DM, yet remain underexplored. Purpose: This study aimed to examine determinants of T2DM among older adults living in a coastal community. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 86 older adults selected using purposive sampling between October 30 and December 14, 2024. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE). Chi-square tests assessed associations between independent variables and T2DM, and variables with p < 0.25 were entered into multivariable logistic regression to identify significant predictors. Results: Comorbidity (p < 0.001), nutritional status (p = 0.001), physical activity (p < 0.001), and depression (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with T2DM. In multivariable analysis, lower physical activity emerged as the strongest predictor (OR = 4.13, 95% CI: 1.18–14.48; Wald = 4.92; p = 0.027). Comorbidity (OR = 3.61), depression (OR = 3.64), and nutritional status (OR = 3.28) also remained significant independent factors. Conclusions: T2DM among older adults in coastal areas was more likely in those with comorbidities, depressive symptoms, altered nutritional status, and especially low physical activity. These findings highlight the need for community-based nursing interventions emphasizing physical activity promotion, nutritional counseling, and depression screening to mitigate T2DM risk in vulnerable coastal populations

Abstract

Background: The performance of nurses tasked with caring for the elderly is greatly influenced by the quality of the services provided. Nurse performance is influenced by several factors, namely: ability, motivation, support received, job existence and nurses' organizational relationships in carrying out their duties to provide health services to patients. Method: This study employed a cross-sectional descriptive correlation design, with random sampling technique. Surveys were administered to assess the performance of nurses. The surveys included questions about the nurses' personal information, professional experience, and other factors that may affect their performance. The study was carried out at multiple healthcare facilities, specifically hospitals and health centers, with a sample size of 128 individuals. The employed analytical methods are Chi Square and multiple logistic regression. Results: There is a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and nurse performance (p=0.009), as well as between workload and nurse performance (p=0.026). Emotional intelligence is the most influential factor on nurse performance, with a statistically significant impact (p=0.027). Nevertheless, the presence of dual role conflict is not deemed to have a substantial correlation with the performance of nurses in delivering nursing services to senior patients. Conclusion: There exists a notable association between emotional intelligence and nurse performance (p=0.009), as well as between workload and nurse performance (p=0.026). Emotional intelligence has the greatest influence on nurse performance, with a statistically significant impact (p=0.027). However, the existence of dual role conflict is not considered to have a significant association with the performance of nurses in providing nursing services to elderly patients.

Abstract

User acceptance is a key determinant of the successful implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in hospitals. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing EMR acceptance at Bhayangkara Level III Hospital Kendari using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 114 healthcare workers selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS version 4.0. Perceived ease of use had a significant effect on perceived usefulness (β = 0,760, p < 0.001) and user attitude (β = 0,464, p < 0,001). Perceived usefulness affected user attitude (β = 0,368, p < 0,001) and actual use (β = 0,534, p < 0.001), but had no direct effect on behavioral intention (p = 0,167). User attitude strongly influenced behavioral intention (β = 0,793, p < 0,001), which in turn affected actual use (β = 0,384, p < 0,001). Perceived usefulness acted as a partial mediator between ease of use and attitude, while attitude served as a full mediator between perceived usefulness and behavioral intention. Behavioral intention did not mediate the relationship between perceived usefulness and actual use. A user-friendly system design and demonstrable benefits are essential to foster positive user attitudes and encourage EMR adoption.
