Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Gestalt counseling and Islamic therapy in supporting the development of elementary school-aged children. Gestalt counseling emphasizes "here and now" awareness, personal responsibility, and resolving internal conflicts. Islamic therapy, on the other hand, integrates spiritual values, moral education, and ethical behavior based on the Quran and Hadith to guide children through emotional and social challenges. The systematic literature review (SLR) method was employed to identify relevant studies from the last 10 years. The analysis revealed that both approaches share a focus on responsibility and problem-solving, but Islamic therapy offers a unique spiritual dimension. This study provides new insights into integrating both approaches for more holistic child development. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan efektivitas konseling Gestalt dan terapi Islam dalam mendukung perkembangan anak usia sekolah dasar. Konseling Gestalt berfokus pada penguatan kesadaran "here and now," tanggung jawab pribadi, dan penyelesaian konflik internal.

Abstract

Relative deficiencies develop in two types of society: poor (deprived) and disadvantaged (unfortunate), little research for this arrangement has been conducted in the field of education. This will discuss the relative deprivation character of underprivileged children in the realm of education. This research uses a descriptive method. The descriptive survey was used to describe the relative character of deprivation among underprivileged children at school, knowing the differences between boys and girls. The subjects in this study were grade 5 and grade 6 elementary school students in the Bekasi area with a total of 77 students: 37 boys and 40 girls. The instrument used in this study is an instrument that has been tested by experts, validity and reliability. It uses a relative deprivation scale for disadvantaged children. The data were analyzed descriptively by describing the minimum and maximum scores of each item, thus showing strength of each characteristic. In addition, the frequency score also described to highlight differences in the relative characteristics of deprivation among male and female students. The results explained that the participants had a very strong deprivation character, males were more dominant than females. The strongest characters reflected their lesser curiosity about things, but the girls exhibit better score related to rule obedience. The results of this study could be used as a reference to treat students' relative deficiencies through  guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

This study explores the variations in career calling among school counselors based on ethno-socio-demographic backgrounds, such as ethnicity, religion, employment status, age, and gender. Utilizing a comparative research design, this study involving 95 school counselors analyzes how these factors influence the level of career calling among counselors. The findings indicate that while there are differences in career calling between groups, these differences are not statistically significant. These results highlight that career calling develops through a complex interaction of intrinsic and extrinsic factors and is not entirely dependent on formal variables such as education or employment. This research makes a significant contribution to the literature on career calling, particularly within the context of school counselor professionalism in Indonesia, and offers valuable insights for the development of more inclusive policies and intervention programs.

Abstract

This article critically examines the origins and evolution of the term "career calling" and its relevance for school counselors. Tracing its roots from Ancient Greece to modern times, the concept of career calling has shifted from a spiritual vocation to a broader, secularized understanding, yet remains deeply tied to prosocial motivation and meaningful work. Employing the Critical Interpretive Synthesis approach, this study systematically and interpretatively analyzes the historical and social evolution of 'career calling.' By integrating comprehensive literature reviews from databases such as JSTOR, PubMed, ERIC, and Google Scholar, the methodology facilitates a nuanced exploration of how the concept has transformed, focusing on its impact on the professional role of school counselors. The evolution of the term "calling" from its traditional religious roots to a more secular interpretation highlights the broadening scope of the concept in modern contexts, reflecting shifts in Western cultural norms and values. This transformation underscores the ongoing debate among scholars about the definition of calling, with some advocating for a return to its historical, prosocial origins and others embracing its contemporary relevance to individual fulfillment and professional identity. The insights gained from this study not only expand school counselors' understanding of the profound implications of career calling, enhancing their perception of professional identity, but also provide a foundational basis for the development of instruments specifically tailored for measuring career calling among school counselors. Furthermore, these insights are instrumental in designing effective career calling development interventions, enabling school counselors to better support students in aligning their educational paths with their life's purposes.

Abstract

Ethical codes form the foundation of counseling professionalism, protecting clients and maintaining professional integrity. The digital era presents complex ethical challenges regarding data confidentiality, counsellors’ digital competence, and professional boundaries in virtual spaces. This study comprehensively explores the philosophical foundations, structure, implementation, and challenges of ethical codes for guidance and counseling in national and international contexts, identifying regulatory gaps in the digital era. This research employed a narrative literature review approach examining publications from 2015-2025 sourced from Scopus, Google Scholar, ERIC, PubMed, PsycINFO, and national journal portals. Analysis was conducted through thematic content analysis, encompassing systematic information extraction, thematic categorization, comparative analysis of Indonesian and international ethical codes, narrative synthesis, and critical interpretation of theoretical and practical implications. Results of this research indicate that ethical codes are rooted in philosophical foundations (ontology, epistemology, axiology) with universal principles: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. International comparison reveals ACA and ASCA (US) emphasize client protection and digital technology; BACP (UK) focuses on values-based practice; PACFA and ACA Australia prioritize cultural diversity; while ABKIN Indonesia emphasizes socio-cultural norms and national educational goals. Digital era challenges include digital data confidentiality, counsellors’ digital competence gaps, professional boundaries on social media, digital informed consent, and cross-border counseling. International associations have updated their ethical codes to include specific digital counseling regulations, yet Indonesia lacks comprehensive chapters on cyber counseling. Indonesian ethical codes, ABKIN, need to revise its ethical codes by adding chapters on cyber counseling, strengthening enforcement mechanisms, and integrating digital ethics into counselor education curricula.
