Abstract

Language skills are significant predictors of early academic and social-emotional outcomes of children and are important predictors of school readiness. This study aims to improve children's language skills through the application of mind mapping learning methods. This classroom action research used Kemmis and Taggart's cycle model. The research subjects were 12 children in group B consisting of eight boys and four girls. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation with the validity of the data using source triangulation and method triangulation. This research uses data analysis techniques in the form of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the children's language skills through the application of the mind mapping method in the first cycle were 75%, and in the second cycle had increased to 92%. Based on the results of teacher observations in the implementation of cycle I, the children's language skills obtained a percentage value of 61.5%, and in cycle II increased to 92.3%. While the results of observations of children's activities in the implementation of the first cycle obtained a percentage of 54%, and in the second cycle, it increased to 85%. This study found that the teacher's assessment of this mind mapping method was an easy method to understand so that it was easy to apply in classroom learning. The implication of this research is that it is necessary to carry out further research on the application of the mind mapping method for other aspects of development. Abstract

This Community Service Program is entitled "Early Detection Training for Child Growth and Development for Kindergarten/RA Teachers in Kendari City." The purpose of this service activity is to provide knowledge and insight for kindergarten/RA teachers related to the detection of child growth and development that can be implemented in schools. The specific targets to be achieved from the implementation of this community service activity are as follows, namely: (a) the existence of teachers' knowledge and skills in assessing the nutritional status of early childhood, (b) teachers can find out how to carry out early detection of developmental deviations using KPSP, (c) teachers can detect children's growth such as measuring the child's head circumference, height and testing early childhood hearing and vision,  and (d) the creation of more effective communication with parents related to child growth and development. The methods used in the implementation of this activity are as follows; (1) Preparation Stage. Where the community service team digs information about training needs, determines training materials and participants and prepares materials and tools used for early detection of child growth and development training activities for kindergarten/RA teachers. (2) Implementation Stage. The community service team provides an initial test first to find out the initial knowledge of the trainees, then the community service team provides education about early detection of child growth and development and conducts a simulation of child growth and development detection. (3) Evaluation and Reporting Stage. The community service team conducted an evaluation related to the knowledge and understanding of kindergarten/RA teachers related to the detection of early childhood growth and development.

Abstract

Abstract

The emergency of sexual violence against children in Indonesia is considered to involve religious intervention for resolution. This article discusses the role of Islamic teachings in creating individual, social, cultural, and contextual forces as factors affecting synergetic communication for children, which further contributes to minimizing sexual abuse against children. This article argues that Islamic teachings such as introducing the masculine and feminine souls towards children in the early age, introducing the concept of aurat and sexual education to children as well as providing qishas or diyat punishment for child sexual offenders, will be able to contribute to creating societal and individual forces for their social communication skills that can protect them form predators of sexual abuse.
