Abstract

The current goal of language learning is to teach students to develop theoretical and practical language skills. To find out whether students are skilled or not, an appropriate assessment is needed. Assessment is not just a complement to learning, but it must be of a quality that has validity and reliability. However, in reality, in the classroom, students are often found to be less skilled in practical language. For this reason, teachers must be able to choose an assessment based on the process and results of student learning. The assessment in question is a formative assessment model in language learning applied to online classes. This research was conducted by developing a product, namely a formative assessment model, in online classes. The development model used is the Plomp development model, which consists of a preliminary study, prototype design, and evaluation. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, so 40 students were recruited as participants in the trial of the developed model. The data collection technique was carried out using questionnaire instruments, observation sheets, tests, and required documents. The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive analysis, namely, describing the results of data tabulation. The results of the study showed that the validity value obtained an average of 91.112% with a very good category, practicality of 92.37%, and the effectiveness of the model can be seen from the graph of student achievement using the model. This shows that the formative assessment model can be applied in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to produce an inquiry learning model on Indonesian subjects. This model emphasizes the discovery of meaning contained in a text. This inquiry learning model was developed through the Plomp model (2013) which consisted of the preliminary research stage, the prototype stage, and the assessment stage. This model is validated by experts in terms of substance aspects, presentation, language, and graphics. This model was tested in class XII of SMA Negeri 1 Padang Bolak to see the practicality and effectiveness. This study shows that the inquiry learning model in Indonesian language subjects in class XII of SMA Negeri 1 Padang Bolak is valid, practical, and effective. The validity of the inquiry learning model seen from the results of content validation and constructs with a score of 3.70 is a very valid category. The practicality of the inquiry learning model can be seen from the results of the practical sheet filled by students of 84.5 with a very practical category, while the effectiveness of the inquiry learning model seen from the increase in student learning outcomes by 94.65 in the very effective category.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of conspiracy between idealism and power in the context of critical discourse analysis studies. The domination of power makes idealism lose its resonance as a pillar of truth and justice which is marked by resistance and trust from its readers. This needs to be studied academically with The van Leeuwen's theory in the perspective of critical discourse analysis. The purpose of this study is to photograph the relationship between power and idealism, marginalization, and conspiracies of the mass media and their readers. In Theo van Leeuwen's theory, a problem is analyzed by exclusion and inclusion based on ideology. This type of research is a qualitative research that describes descriptively the problems in the Nusantara column in the North Sumatran Waspada newspaper. The source of the research data was obtained from the Nusantara column in the Waspada newspaper by analyzing the items per sentence according to Theo van Leeuwen's theory. Keywords: Idealism, Power, Critical Discourse Analysis

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low ability of students in writing argumentation in its elements. This can be seen from the assignment given that there is still a lack of connection between the substance and reality, making the content of the argumentation conveyed ambiguous to the reader. The goal is to develop a theoretical model of socio-scientific-based language learning. The issues or problems used are adjusted to the concept or theory of language in use, such as the issue of hate speech in forensic linguistics, the issue of cultural immersion in anthropolinguistics, and so on. This type of research is development research, which develops research products and is tested on a test class. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Medan City, which contained a research sample of 35 students. The products tested were SCC-based language learning model books, teachers' books, and students' books. The research instruments used consisted of a/questionnaire, an interview guide, and an observation guide. Data analysis was done qualitatively and quantitatively according to the type of data obtained. The results of this study indicate that the research products tested in both limited and large classes achieved an expert validation percentage of 89.42% and a practicality value of 81.95%. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the model is evident from the increase in student learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of YouTube learning videos on the procedural writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMK Pangeran Antasari. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using a true experimental design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group. The research design consists of two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The population was selected using probability sampling techniques, with students from the XI Busana class as the experimental group and students from the XI DKV class as the control group. Data collection was conducted through pre-test and post-test assessments for each class. The test used included assessment criteria for procedural text writing. Statistical data processing was performed using SPSS 25. The data showed normal and homogeneous distributions based on normality and homogeneity tests. The results of the independent t-test calculation indicated a significance value of 0.001 < 0.005, leading to the rejection of H0. The findings suggest that the use of YouTube learning videos in teaching procedural text writing to eleventh-grade vocational school students is more effective than conventional learning methods. This confirms a significant difference between using YouTube learning videos and conventional teaching methods.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms of language errors in the field of morphology in scientific articles by Seribu Bukit state high school students. The research data is in the form of 27 student scientific articles. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The analysis technique used is the test technique. The test is in the form of a scientific article. Students are asked to write scientific articles. The results of this research show that the forms of morphological errors found in scientific articles of class not standard. The form of error in the field of reduplication lies in its redundant/pleonic use. The form of a composite error lies in the procedure for writing it. The findings of this research show that language errors in the morphological aspect are found in grammatical errors, diction errors, affixation errors, and composite errors.

Abstract

One of the most important aspects in a novel is characterization. The author's creativity determines the role of the characters in the story until its climax. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a kind of characterization analysis in the novel Sunset & Rosil by Tere Liye and the novel Sirkus Pohon by Andrea Hirata. This study was conducted to describe the characterization of the two novels Sunset & Rosil by Tere Liye and the novel Sirkus Pohon by Andrea Hirata. The analysis was carried out by analyzing the content of the novel Sunset & Rosil by Tere Liye and the novel Sirkus Pohon by Andrea Hirata. Data collection was carried out using the technique of noting sentences and paragraphs related to the characterization of the two novels. The data is analyzed and interpreted for each sentence/paragraph to obtain the meaning contained therein. To test the data, data reduction is used by rearranging the data obtained by sorting data that is relevant to the characterization. After the data is interpreted, the data is then analyzed by collecting data, selecting data, and compiling reports. The results of this study show that the characterizations in the novel Sunset & Rosil by Tere Liye and the novel Sirkus Pohon by Andrea Hirata are described as sincere, honest, fair, patient, and forgiving of others. The novel Sirkus Pohon by Andrea Hirata tells about the daily life of the people in one of the villages in Tanjong Lantai, Belitung.

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate the character value contained in the menganggun verses that used in the ritual of baby-cradling in the province of Subulussalam, Indonesia. This study, therefore, try to: (1) identify the character values present in the menganggun verses which are related to individual character values, social character values, and religious character values, and (2) describe the techniques used to convey these character values in the menganggun verses. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected using the observation and note-taking technique from popular menganggun verses manuscripts. The data were analyzed by exploring the chosen menganggun verses to identify the character values inherent in their linguistic and thematic components. The analysis data also observed at the ways the verses were delivered, showing how these methods help get moral messages across in the tradition. The result showed that the character values in the menganggun poetry were related to individual character values, social character values, and religious character values. In terms of individual character, the menganggun poetry teaches the importance of healthy self-esteem without arrogance. Regarding social character, the poetry emphasizes values such as compassion, empathy, tolerance, and social responsibility. In terms of religious character, the menganggun poetry instills values of obedience, piety, gratitude, sincerity, and spiritual well-being. These values integrate the local wisdom of the Singkil culture, which is deeply rooted in Islamic teachings, thus reflecting holistic character education. The techniques for conveying character values in the menganggun poetry include the use of poetic and symbolic language rich in metaphors, advice and prayer approaches, repetition and rhythm techniques, and the incorporation of Islamic values.
