Abstract

Adequate nutrition is essential for adolescents' health and participation in physical activity. In 2025, Indonesia introduced the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (FNMP) to improve students' nutritional status; however, evidence about students' perceptions of the programme especially in vocational health schools implementing midday meal distribution remains limited. This study explored Grade XI students' perceptions of the FNMP programme and examined links with perceived health and engagement in Physical Education, Sport, and Health (PE) lessons. Using a descriptive qualitative design, eight students were purposively sampled, with a PE teacher and the school principal serving as key informants. Data collection involved semi structured interviews, participatory observation, and document review. Analysis followed Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, with source and technique triangulation. Findings show students held positive cognitive and affective perceptions of FNMP, reporting associations with improved physical fitness, reduced fatigue, enhanced concentration, and increased participation in PE activities. The results suggest students’ perceptions operate as a mechanism connecting programme implementation to health improvements and ongoing physical activity engagement. These qualitative findings support the FNMP programme’s effectiveness in vocational health school settings and offer practical insights for strengthening future school-based nutrition policies and implementation strategies.

Abstract

Long-serve performance in badminton depends on directional accuracy, timing, and efficient coordination of the upper-limb kinetic chain; however, evidence-based assessment of service skills among beginner players remains limited. This study aimed to examine the associations between eye-hand coordination, wrist flexibility, and long-serve performance among players at SMKN 1 Sikur. A cross-sectional correlational design was applied involving 20 players. Eye-hand coordination was assessed using a tennis-ball throw-and-catch test, wrist flexibility was measured with a goniometer, and long-serve performance was evaluated using a standardized long-service test. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients, coefficients of determination, and 95% confidence intervals to estimate the magnitude and precision of the associations. The findings showed that eye-hand coordination was not significantly associated with long-serve performance (r = -0.318, p = 0.171, 95% CI [-0.667, 0.144], R² = 0.101), whereas wrist flexibility demonstrated a moderate positive association with long-serve performance (r = 0.487, p = 0.030, 95% CI [0.056, 0.765], R² = 0.237). These results indicate that wrist flexibility may serve as a useful and low-cost screening and training target for developing long-serve performance among beginner badminton players. Conversely, generic eye-hand coordination tests should be complemented by badminton-specific perceptual-motor and technical assessments. The study contributes to service-skill assessment literature by identifying a practical physical factor associated with beginner long-serve performance, although the small sample size and cross-sectional design limit causal inference and highlight the need for replication using larger samples, reliability testing, and motion-analysis measures.

Abstract

Basketball is one of the popular sports taught in physical education because it develops students’ motor skills, coordination, cooperation, discipline, and motivation to participate in learning. However, the implementation of basketball instruction at SMKN 1 Sikur is still constrained by students’ low mastery of basic techniques and limited learning motivation. These conditions are related to limited facilities, a large number of students in each class, and the continued use of conventional teaching methods. A circuit-based approach may provide varied and active practice stations that accommodate large classes and optimize the use of available facilities. This study aimed to develop a modified circuit training-based basketball learning model and determine its feasibility and effectiveness in improving students’ basic basketball skills and learning motivation. This research used a research and development method based on the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants were 36 tenth-grade students of the Visual Communication Design program at SMKN 1 Sikur. Data were collected using material-expert and field-practitioner validation sheets, the AAHPERD Basketball Skill Test covering dribbling, passing, and shooting, and a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring learning motivation. The data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the developed model was categorized as “Very Feasible,” receiving scores of 88.5% from material experts and 91.2% from field practitioners. Students’ average basic basketball skill score increased from 54.30 in the pretest to 78.65 in the posttest, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). Learning motivation also increased from 58% (“Sufficient”) to 85% (“Very High”). Therefore, the modified circuit training-based basketball learning model is feasible and effective for improving basic basketball skills and learning motivation in vocational high school physical education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of leg muscle power training on 110 meter running speed. This research is experimental research using a one group pretest posttest design model. The subjects in this research were 7 athletes. The data collection technique used a 110 meter hurdles test and data analysis was pretest posttest one group. The average pretest score was 17.99. Meanwhile, the posttest score obtained an average score of 17.18. The results of the distribution normality test for the pretest and posttest gave the pretest results for the 110 meter hurdles with a normal sig distribution. 0.2 > 0.05, while for the posttest sig. 0.087 > 0.05. This means that the variable speed for running the 110 meter hurdles is normally distributed, because the significance value is > 0.05. The homogeneity results are declared homogeneous because from the test results using the homogeneity test the significance variance is > 0.05. From the paired sample test table it can be seen that the calculated T is equal to 2.3 with a probability value (sig) = 0.061 and a significance level value (α) of 0.05. Because the probability value is 0.061 > 0.05, then Ho is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded in this study that there is a significant influence between leg muscle power training on the 110 meter hurdles speed of PASI East Lombok athletes.

Abstract

Traditional sports are a type of physical activity that can support student engagement in Physical Education and help to preserve cultural values. However, the emergence of modern activities has led some students to have little knowledge and interest in traditional sports. The present study aims to analyze the motivation and interest of students in traditional sports in Physical Education learning. In this study, a qualitative method was used. The research informants were 14 students and one Physical Education, Sports and Health (PJOK) teacher, selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews and documentation and were analyzed descriptively to give an overview of the students’ motivation and interest in traditional sports. The results showed that students have high interest in traditional sports as shown in their enjoyment, attention, interest, concentration and willingness to participate in the activities. The students’ motivation was also expressed in terms of feelings of enjoyment, curiosity, satisfaction and desire to gain experience from participation in traditional sports. Besides the internal factors, the motivation and interest of students were reinforced by external factors like the encouragement from the Physical Education teacher, invitations from peers, rewards and the presence of school facilities. This means that traditional sports can be an alternative activity in the learning of Physical Education to increase student engagement while supporting the introduction and preservation of the culture through physical activities.
