Abstract

Human activities’ negative impacts are thought to be causing increasing environmental damage and ongoing global climate change. This study aims to evaluate the impact of economic activity, particularly activities in the agriculture and industry sectors, on carbon dioxide emissions based on the STIRPAT model approach. Focusing on Indonesia and using time series data from the World Bank from 1990-2022, this research uses the Autoregressive Distributed Lag -Error Correction Model (ARDL-ECM)method to capture the long-term and short-term relationship. The results show that the STIRPAT model is robust in modelling the impact of economic activities on environmental degradation. The variable of interest of this research is renewable energy consumption, which plays a proxy in the technology and eases carbon emissions in the manufacturing and service sectors. So that, by increasing renewable energy consumption helps reduce carbon emissions in both the manufacturing and service sectors.

Abstract

The agricultural sector is the third-largest contributor to Central Java’s GRDP and continues to grow annually. Despite this, labor absorption in agriculture remains low, and the declining farmer’s exchange rate indicates worsening farmer welfare. This study aims to analyze the economic base, growth potential, and sectoral mapping of agriculture in Central Java. The research employs several analytical tools including Location Quotient (LQ), Growth Ratio Model (GRM), Overlay Analysis, and the BCG Matrix. Results show that sub-sectors such as food crops, horticulture, livestock, and agricultural and hunting services are the economic base of the region, maintaining their relevance both before 2019 and after 2022 the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them, horticulture demonstrates strong growth potential, while food crops, livestock, and agricultural services also show opportunities for development. The BCG Matrix further highlights horticultural crops and agricultural services as the primary drivers of growth. These findings suggest that targeted government support and policy prioritization toward these key sub-sectors are essential for sustaining agricultural advancement and improving farmer welfare in the region.

Abstract

Economic growth is an important phenomenon because it is closely related to the ultimate goal of development, namely community welfare. However, not all regions in Indonesia have experienced an increase in economic growth. Less-developed regions are among those with low economic growth. This study aims to analyze the determinant of economic growth in 40 less-developed regions of Indonesia during 2015-2022 using a quantile panel regression analysis tool. The results show that the fixed capital formation, population, and human development have a significant positive effect on economic growth at low, medium, and high levels of economic growth. The internet usage variable has a significant positive effect on low and medium economic growth levels but has no effect on high economic growth levels. The access to clean water variable has a significant positive effect on low economic growth levels but has a significant negative effect on medium economic growth levels. Meanwhile, at high economic growth levels, access to clean water has no effect. The government is more committed to accelerating development and the community must actively cooperate in regional development to increase regional economic growth.

Abstract

Household empowerment is an effort to increase family income, especially for poor households. Entrepreneurial activities in the household are expected to encourage independence and social mobility in poor households. This novel research analysed the decision-making behaviour of households owning a business through the probability function of micro and small business owners in poor households in Magelang City. The study will have implications for the design of policy planning related to poverty alleviation, especially regarding increasing entrepreneurship in poor households. Using the 2019 SUSEE database obtained from the Government of Magelang, this study can be concluded that the higher the age and education of the head of a household the greater the opportunity to decide to own a business. The main factor that encourages poor households to own a business is the ease of access to capital. The research findings show that households that have access to credit are proven to be more motivated to own a business. In addition, the more dominant family members have cell phones, the more likely a household is to own a business. From this research, the policy implications that can be carried out are intensifying and ease of providing business capital for micro-enterprises, providing training and coaching, especially in starting businesses for poor households based on simple technology. Owning MSEs has the potential and opportunity to improve the welfare of poor households through business ownership in the form of micro and small businesses.

Abstract

Implementing activities or programs in public sector organizations is required to pay attention to the concept of effectiveness and efficiency. The BAPPEDA of Temanggung Regency as one of the public sector units also applies this principle in implementing activities in its environment. Of the units under the Temanggung Regency government, the Temanggung Regency BAPPEDA has the highest budget compared to other OPDs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of implementing the BAPPEDA budget of the Temanggung Regency. Using the descriptive analysis method, the results of the analysis can be seen that the level of effectiveness and efficiency in the period 2014 -2020 shows varying values. The highest level of effectiveness occurred in 2015 and the lowest occurred in 2016. Implementing expenditure planning for 2014-2020 can be categorized as effective because the programs implemented have been realized. Implementing the 2014-2020 budget, in terms of efficiency, is classified as very efficient. From these results, it can be concluded that the Temanggung Regency BAPPEDA is considered to have carried out budget management very well where the budget management at the Temanggung Regency BAPPEDA is under the concept of effectiveness and efficiency.

Abstract

The role of youth is needed for the development of a country. However, unemployment is still a problem for young people currently. This study was conducted to analyze the effects of education, labor force participation rate (LFPR), economic growth, and population on youth unemployment in ASEAN-5 in 2010–2019. The method used is panel data regression with a fixed-effect model (FEM). The result of this study indicates that the variables of education and labor force participation rate (LFPR) have a positive and significant influence on youth unemployment. Meanwhile, economic growth and population variables have a positive and insignificant effect. By model, the model's equation in this study has met the criteria of goodness of fit. Therefore, increasing job opportunities, especially for youth as the nation's next-generation, must be a top priority to reduce unemployment and improve the quality of the young workforce by increasing training and competence in the workforce.

Abstract

Since being designated as a Special Economic Zone (KEK), Kendal is expected to be able to become the axis of the economy on the island of Java. The establishment of KEK especially KEK Kendal is expected to stimulate investment and business growth which will have an impact on increasing employment and reducing poverty. Nationally, the purpose of creating KEK is economic equity, especially in terms of income and the competitiveness of national products. The establishment of a special economic zone requires careful preparation and commitment from all interested parties to support the implementation of the area's activities. The preparations include policies and institutions, incentives and financing, as well as infrastructure completeness according to the spatial plan. While special economic zones can offer many benefits, on the other hand many special economic zones have been criticized for their high social and economic costs. The purpose of this research is to formulate an appropriate strategy for the development of the Kendal area as a special economic zone. The SWOT matrix that has been formed has described how the strategy can be carried out in the future.

Abstract

Unemployment is one of the fundamental economic problems in Indonesian. The four variables are obtained from BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik) and then converted into time series data. This research uses the Error Correction Model (ECM) to determine the impact of short- and long-term variables. Then the last step is followed by the classical hypothesis test, so that the data can be interpreted without any problems and the results meet the requirements of the best linear unbiased estimator (blue). In fact, many economic developments have created new jobs in Indonesia, capable of lowering unemployment rates at the national level. For example, in 2015-2019, when the Industrial Revolution 4.0 took place, where many foreign and domestic investments were made in massive economic development. However, the booming workforce is still not balanced with the available jobs. Population inequality and the unequal distribution of income are very visible impacts on slow economic growth. The more competent the human resources, the more efficient it will be in reducing unemployment. However, membership of the workforce is still not in balance with available jobs. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between GDP, APS, employment and unemployment in Indonesia in 1990-2019. In this study, GDP shows negative results in the short term and positive results in the long run, both of which have no effect on unemployment. APS has a negative result in the short term and has no effect on unemployment, while in the short term the result is negative but does have an effect on unemployment. The result of the short term- and long-term relationship variables are both negative and both have a significant effect on unemployment.

Abstract

In 2015 is the year of the acceleration of the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), therefore it is necessary to analyze the economy of each member country based on factors that affect the convergence process. This study aims to analyze the level of convergence of economic growth among ASEAN-10 member countries in 2015-2021. The data used is secondary data obtained from the world bank website. The analytical methods used in this study are sigma convergence and beta convergence. The calculation of sigma convergence uses mathematical analysis of the coefficient of variation of GDP per capita of ASEAN-10 member countries. While the calculation of beta convergence uses panel data regression analysis with a fixed effect model approach. The results showed that there was no sigma convergence among ASEAN-10 member countries, indicating that there was no decrease in inequality among member countries. The results of the analysis on beta convergence show that there is absolute and conditional beta convergence at a rate of 7,5% and 3,1%. It was found that the Foreign Direct Investment and Total Labor Force variables did not have a significant effect, while the Trade Openness variable had a significant effect.

Abstract

Unemployment in West Java Province is relatively high, in other words there are still many workers who have not found work. Based on existing data, the percentage of open unemployment in West Java in 2021 will reach 9.82%. This figure is higher than the percentage of open unemployment in Indonesia, namely 6.26%. The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of the Regency/City Minimum Wage (UMK) on labor absorption, both in a one-way and two-way relationship. This study uses a quantitative approach. The analytical method used is panel data analysis techniques and Granger panel causality models. The research results show that the MSE is directly proportional to the level of labor absorption. The productivity and economic growth variables appear inconsistent in the two models built, meaning that the role of productivity and economic growth in labor absorption is still low. From the causality test, a reciprocal relationship was found between economic growth, productivity and MSEs on labor absorption. This finding is interesting because it allows for another perspective in looking at the dynamics of labor absorption.
