Abstract

The Maternal and Child Health Book (MCH Books) has been launched as a crucial instrument for tracking both maternal and child health as well as child growth and development in an effort to improve the caliber of maternity and child health services in Indonesia. However, health professionals, particularly midwives and health cadres who deal directly with the community, particularly pregnant women, postpartum mothers, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, must have a thorough comprehension of the MCH Books and possess a few specific abilities in order to use them to their fullest potential. The purpose of this community service project is to assess the effects of the MCH Book usage training that was provided to 30 health cadres and one midwife.Participants learn how to fill out, comprehend, and use data from the MCH Book for more focused health interventions and to support moms and children through intense, interactive, and case-based training approaches. The knowledge and abilities of midwives and health cadres have significantly increased following training, according to community service outcomes. Over 98% of participants reported feeling more comfortable utilizing the MCH Book and putting it to use in their regular practice. The community's feedback also revealed that following the training, midwives and health cadres were able to provide better counseling and information. Sixty ideas were received from pregnant women, maternity mothers, postpartum mothers, newborns, toddlers, and preschoolers. The study concludes that providing midwives and health cadres with training on the use of MCH Books has increased their knowledge and proficiency. This demonstrates how crucial it is to fund frontline healthcare professionals' ongoing education and training in order to raise the standard of public health services.

Abstract

The maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Lampung Province in 2020 has increased compared to 2019, namely from 110 cases to 115 cases. Bandar Lampung City is one of the regions in Lampung Province with the third highest MMR, 10 cases (8.69%). This research aims to determine the description of childbirth complications experienced by postpartum mothers using the IKAlin instrument (Labour Complications Instrument) in Bandar Lampung in 2023. This type of research uses a descriptive survey method with random sampling. A sample of 222 postpartum mothers with labor complications. This research method involves interviews with postpartum mothers using the IKAlin instrument. The average results of mothers' answers show that the complication of preeclampsia that is felt is high blood pressure, the bleeding complication that is most often felt during labor is experiencing heavy bleeding, and the complication of dystocia that is most often felt is undergoing a prolonged second stage. The advice given is to encourage education about early detection in the community so that people, especially pregnant women, are aware of the importance of monthly pregnancy checks at health facilities to detect birth complications as early as possible.

Abstract

The research was conducted in June-September 2022. The early breastfeeding initiation rate (EBI) in one of the districts in Indonesia in 2022 will only reach 8.74%, of the target of 42%. This study aimed to increase the percentage of EBI implementation in birthing mothers and the success of EBI in the first 30 minutes of labor through the development of EBI model. The research method uses a quasi-experimental control group design. The population is 96 people. The sample is the total population, consisting of 48 people closest to pregnant women plus 48 people in the control group. The effect of mentoring shows significant results on the success of EBI because of the value of p=0.002. The mother's educational contribution did not affect the success of EBI between the intervention group and the control group (p=0.774). The family support factor resulted in a significant EBI win between the intervention and control groups (p=0.000). The achievement of EBI provision was 100% of the target of 60%, the achievement of EBI>1 hour was 7.2%, and EBI<1 hour was 92.8%.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is defined as having hemoglobin levels below 11 g/dl. This condition can lead to various complications during pregnancy and childbirth, including an increased risk of fetal death in the womb. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women is notably high, with approximately 48.9% affected. These figures indicate that anemia is a significant public health issue in the country, as it exceeds the threshold of 40% prevalence, which is considered severe. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between various factors and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women within the Way Halim II Inpatient Health Center's work area in Bandar Lampung City. This research utilized quantitative methods, specifically an observational analytic design with a case-control approach. The Chi-Square statistical test was employed for analysis. The study included a sample of 80 pregnant women, divided into two groups: 40 women who were diagnosed with anemia and 40 who were not. Data for the study were collected from secondary sources, specifically from Maternal and Child Health (MCH) register records. The results indicated a significant relationship between maternal age and the incidence of anemia (p value 0.000) as well as nutritional status (p value 0.001). However, there was no significant relationship between parity and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women (p value 1.000). In conclusion, maternal age and nutritional status are associated with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women, while parity does not appear to have an effect. It is recommended that health workers routinely monitor the administration of iron (Fe) tablets and provide counseling on their importance to help prevent anemia in pregnant women

Abstract

Successful breastfeeding significantly impacts the health of both mothers and infants. This study aims to analyze factors affecting breastfeeding success through a quantitative design incorporating bivariate and multivariate analyses. Data were collected from 90 breastfeeding mothers and analyzed using statistical tests. The results reveal that maternal age is a significant factor (p-value=0.007); mothers aged 20–35 are 1.6 times more likely to breastfeed successfully than those younger than 20 or older than 35. Maternal education also plays a critical role (p-value=0.002); mothers with higher education levels are 2.3 times more likely to succeed in breastfeeding than those with primary education. Employment status is another significant factor (p-value=0.013); non-working mothers are 1.8 times more likely to breastfeed successfully than working mothers. Parity also influences success (p-value=0.029); multiparous mothers are 1.2 times more likely to succeed than primiparous mothers. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions. Educational programs should prioritize mothers with primary or secondary education and those employed. Support mechanisms for working and primiparous mothers are crucial to address breastfeeding challenges. Policies such as extended maternity leave and workplace lactation facilities are also recommended to foster breastfeeding success. In conclusion, maternal age, education, employment status, and parity significantly impact breastfeeding outcomes. Tailored programs and supportive policies can improve breastfeeding rates and enhance maternal and infant health.
