Abstract

Teaching writing to young learners in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context often met with concerns about developmental readiness. However, some studies show that young learners can benefit from creative and multimodal approaches to writing. While much has been studied on teaching speaking and listening skills, studies on visual stimuli like drawing for writing instruction at an early age are limited. This study aims to empower young learners to produce simple descriptive texts through a drawing-based writing task, using their favorite pets as the topic. Employing a case study design, this study involved one class of children, class I,I, which consisted of fourteen learners in a private English language course in Bengkulu, Indonesia. They were in the first and second grades in the elementary schools with ages between 6-7 years. Data were collected through classroom observations, student work, and reflective feedback from teachers. After young learners studied basic vocabulary and sentence structures in eight meetings, they drew their favorite pets and wrote short descriptions based on their drawings. The number of sentences that they should write ranges from four to six sentences. Each sentence contained five to eight words.  The results show that young learners could write simple descriptive texts using basic vocabulary and sentence structures using drawing-based writing tasks. This technique also helped young learners generate content and reduced cognitive load during writing. These findings suggest that creative, visual-based tasks can be effective in teaching writing to young EFL learners.

Abstract

This research aims to see what Artificial Intelligence application used by non-English tertiary students in English classroom. The usages of technological application they occasionally use make their task and assignment. And, what strategies English lecturers may use to respond to students assignment created with the help of AI. Research methodology used in this work is descriptive qualitative one by using Participant Action Research (PAR). This research used interview instrument where students answered some questions related to what applications they were used in completing English assignment. Then the researcher made the transcript and drew conclusion from the answers. Based on the result of interview, Google, Chat GPT, and Gemini were frequently used in doing the assignment. Meanwhile, there were 3 strategies of lecturers’ i.e. suppression of academic ethics, using Automatic Article Generator (AAG), and more practice activity. This research can be useful in the ELT field especially lecturer who teaches English to non-English students at State Islamic University. It is undeniable that AI has become part of learning, due to lack of English proficiency, laziness, or limited time the students have. Using AI is useful for them to carry out task effectively and efficiently. This research is focusing on Artificial Intelligence in ELT specifically for lecturer of non-English classroom. In addition, this research is also focused on university students. It is hope that, this research may become an insight for lecturers to respond to e-cheating in ELT classroom of non-English tertiary students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to empirically examine how using visual-based learning materials can help students in chemistry education programs become more proficient in English vocabulary. This quasi-experimental study involved 60 Universitas Negeri Padang second semester chemistry education students. The experimental group (n=30) received chemical English vocabulary instruction using visual-based learning materials, while the control group (n=30) received instruction using traditional text-based techniques. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two unequal groups. Valid and trustworthy pre-test and post-test tools were used to gather data on vocabulary mastery. The experimental group demonstrated a significantly greater increase (p < 0.05) in vocabulary mastery scores than the other group, according to data analysis using the independent samples t-test. According to the study's findings, using visual-based learning resources can help students comprehend, remember, and become proficient in important chemical English vocabulary. This can help them better comprehend English chemistry literature and get ready for chemistry-related problems around the world.

Abstract

Despite the prominent role of English in the sports industry, few studies have explored the demand for English competence among future sport coaches, especially in the context of an increasingly globalized sporting domain where communication is becoming key in diverse trading environments. However, the students who are studying Sport Coaching Education typically do not have English skills that are specifically focused on real-life coaching situations. This study is developing teaching materials for teaching English language using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach specifically for the needs of the Sport Coaching Education students. In this study, a Research and Development (R&D) design based on the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model was used through a needs analysis, material development, expert validation, and pilot testing. The needs analysis indicated a considerable gap between students’ current English material and the communicative needs of the sport coaching specialism. The students were mostly interested in sport-specific vocabulary and more speaking practice in coaching contexts. The materials developed involved listening, speaking, reading and writing activities based on authentic coaching situations. Expert reviews scored the materials favorably (4.6/5 score on average) on relevance, pedagogical effectiveness, and feasibility. It concludes that contextual, sport-specific English resources are useful for improving language competence and coaching preparedness. Linking ESP to real-world practice ensures that CTL serves as far more than just an academic pursuit in sport coaching education, connecting them far more directly with the professional world. Abstract

The integration of Augmented Reality (AR) into chemistry learning, particularly in acid-base topics, has emerged as a promising innovation to enhance student engagement and understanding. This literature review aims to analyze the effectiveness of AR-based learning in improving student learning outcomes on acid-base material. The study employs a systematic review method by collecting, screening, and analyzing articles published between 2018–2024 from indexed databases such as Scopus, Springer, and Google Scholar. A total of 25 relevant articles were identified and analyzed thematically to assess the impact of AR on cognitive achievement, conceptual understanding, and student motivation. The findings reveal that AR technology not only improves students' conceptual mastery but also reduces misconceptions and supports interactive, immersive learning experiences. Furthermore, AR enhances the visualization of microscopic and abstract acid-base phenomena, which are typically difficult for students to comprehend through conventional instruction. The review concludes that AR is a pedagogical innovation with significant potential to transform acid-base chemistry instruction. Further empirical studies are recommended to explore long-term impacts and classroom integration strategies.
